It used to be easier to get around it by paying for next day delivery but now it's still hermes for loads of shops. Next day has a different meaning with hermes.

I sent a couple of parcels just before Christmas, next day wasn't that much more, however it still said "delivery in 2-3 days' so I saved a few pennies and they both arrived very quickly.

The local courier is the key, ours is great, though very grumpy. We only know her so well as we are the neighbours delivery point.

How do the parcel lockers work for delivery? I used them to send the above parcels, but is that an option for people for delivery? (Covid isolation aside)

llansannan11 · 06/01/2022 19:51

It won't solve your issue OP, but I think everyone should know who the parcel carrier will be before you place and pay for any online order. This could be argued to make some scams less likely, such as having to give credit card details to confirm delivery.

Hermes business would be greatly reduced I'd expect.

WhatICallMyUsername · 06/01/2022 20:15

This is my probably my best/worst Hermes delivery when he rammed 3 parcels in the electricity meter box!

Worst delivery company I dealt with last year was fedex. Delivery went from Belgium to Germany, and sat there for 4 days. Then went on a visit to Milton Keynes for another 2 days. Then spent a day in Cardiff before finally making it to me. Assured a 4 day delivery time. Got to order from the same company next week. Hope its quicker next time.

theNumbersStation · 06/01/2022 20:20

Hermes folk for here are amazing.

No complaints at all.

MsSquiz · 06/01/2022 20:42

My Hermes delivery guy is the best of all our local couriers. He's the only 1 who actually uses the "safe place" specified! The rest all just leave parcels on the doorstep and claim it has been left "in front porch"
The Yodel guy doesn't even knock! He leaves the parcel on the door step, sprints back to his van, drives off and then marks the parcel as "delivered"
UPS ring the doorbell at least 4 times and then knock loud enough to wake the dead! Usually claiming "I didn't hear the door bell, does it work?" 🙄

Hamilfan · 06/01/2022 20:42

I'm currently waiting on a Hermes order that has been delayed 3 days due to a 'traffic incident' Hmm

StrangerThanSpring · 07/01/2022 11:35

Update from Amazon on my parcel. The status has changed to:

Delayed, not yet shipped

We will email you as soon as this order ships. We're sorry for the inconvenience.

StrangerThanSpring · 07/01/2022 11:35

I guess that means it's lost, so they are sending another one.

SingingWaffleDoggy · 07/01/2022 11:54

I opted for 48hr delivery on a Christmas present the week before Christmas and still haven’t received it. I keep getting updates saying out for delivery, then problem with the delivery, then I wasn’t in (they didn’t come- we have a video doorbell). I have since ordered something from another company due to be delivered today and it Hermes again. We will wait and see!
Our usual Hermes driver is brilliant but I suspect he hasn’t been working

Mol1628 · 07/01/2022 13:25

I got a reply today from my ‘incident report’ where my next day delivery didn’t show up.

They told me they will investigate and get back to me in 3-5 days! Our local Hermes delivery guy is great but my guess is he’s not working at the moment and no one is covering his rounds.

TheLeigh · 07/01/2022 14:06

It's interesting to read the differences between delivery companies in different areas.

Best to worst in my area:

DPD
Hermes
DHL
Yodel
Royal Mail
Amazon Logistics
UPS

129orbust · 07/01/2022 14:13

I hate Hermes!!!
I do a lot of online surveys and as part of that the companies sometimes sent me boxes of things to trial and report back on.
When I get an email through saying it is with Hermes my heart sinks as if it doesn't turn up I miss out on the free stuff and the money from the follow-up survey.
DPD and UPS are never an issue.

BasiliskStare · 07/01/2022 15:15

Re Hermes - I sent some things via them - they were the cheapest - but as my mother says - pay cheap - pay twice . It was Warhammer - lots of people wanted it - I packaged it up probably belt and braces & it did not arrive to the recipient - But this was a single thing - domestic - not from a large company . It got lost ( they claimed in their warehouse ) & they were so hard to get in touch with and it took ages. In the end after weeks and weeks they gave us a little bit back but a fraction of what is is worth ( I had taken out some insurance _ . I will never use them again.

We had a parcel from Hermes - which they said was delivered - we have a cam - thing by our front door and DH has it on his phone - they did not deliver it but they emailed to say they did . He emailed to say this was not delivered & I have proof. It was delivered 2 days later - but I won't use them for delivering parcels again.

withiceplease · 07/01/2022 15:39

They are awful
Got a message at 940 saying delivery 930-1130. Left a safe place for them to use (not safe but reckoned I'd be home in time)
I was in with no radio so I could hear knock. Had been sitting downstairs where my head could be seen from the front door for about an hour when I got a message saying no one in! It had been left on step. Thank goodness I put a safe place.
Really puts me off ordering. This was from cult beauty and I'll pay more next time from elsewhere that doesn't use Hermes.

Tevion28 · 07/01/2022 19:14

Well the 48 hour investigation is up and my parcel is still stuck in the system.
Seller sent me a email saying they had had contact from Hermes abt my parcel and its exactly the same thing hermes said to me 2 days ago.🙄

SingingWaffleDoggy · 08/01/2022 11:21

Both of mine arrived at the same time yesterday. The delivery driver (not our usual) said she had just delivered 20 Christmas present parcels to one house. That must have been a sad Christmas for somebody Sad

Hathertonhariden · 08/01/2022 11:33

Hermes is fine here. Amazon delivery guy on ghe other hand left a package propped against a wheelie bin a foot away from my parcels box which is clearly labelled for deliveries to be put in. It was pouring with rain all day and I came home to a parcel that was little more than papier mache. Luckily the item was plastic wrapped but the stupidity of it still makes me Xmas Angry especially as the delivery instructions said to leave it in the parcels box.

Tevion28 · 08/01/2022 11:47

Seller has told me that they have to allow Hermes until 5pm tomorrow to sort it out before they can go ahead and refund me.

Hermes are usually bad and have been in most areas I've lived but in our new area we have a lovely courier and never have had a problem. Usually though with next day delivery it's been on time unless ordered late.. you should contact them in case there's an issue.

deathofastrawberry · 08/01/2022 11:51

Sorry just saw your update. Hope it arrives in time!

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 08/01/2022 11:53

The irony of them being called Hermes. They usually deliver ours to the flat upstairs.

SurferRona · 08/01/2022 11:56

My own Hermes chap is brilliant. Really good, they’ve had a LOT of parcels recently so may be a slight backlog- he had over 200 to deliver on NYE, was delivering again at 7 am next day to get them out. He works so hard!

TeloMere · 08/01/2022 11:57

As PPs have said, it depends on the local courier.

Hermes is best of the lot in our area. Aways on time, leaves parcels in safe place if needed while others just drop outside front door in full view.

He even brought a parcel of mine another company had misdelivered. It had been chucked in someone's front garden and he recognised our name and address.
