I am really surprised he won honestly

StartupRepair · 10/01/2022 08:00

I think the Australian government has behaved typically disgracefully. He should never have been given an exemption. Unfortunately this case will be seized on by antivax nutters in Australia as a vindication.

HPFA · 10/01/2022 08:01

Now confirmed: - he was tested on the 16th December and results returned seven hours later.

On 17th December he was posing maskless...with children

The remains of his reputation now gone.

Well looks like, after all the righteous cries of ' we have rules and they must be followed', proper rules and procedures weren't actually followed in detaining him. It was a shoddily executed, populist political decision.

So he knowingly went out and about. Disgusting. That's not Australia's problem but shows what an arrogant arsehole he actually is.

Paperplain · 10/01/2022 08:10

Well there you go. Not entirely surprising after watching the court sessions on line today and a damning judgment. Will be interesting to see whether the minister will now cancel the visa in accordance with law (there are other powers which will allow him to do this) or whether Novak will be allowed to play. What a mess and what an embarrassment for the aus government. Novak's counsel was outstanding and a Masterclass in how to run a proceeding.

But startup if you have a rule that a positive covid test gives you an exemption then you can’t just apply that arbitrarily. And there are loops holes obviously but presumably that’s baked into the policy? I read somewhere that Australia has granted 500,000 exemptions for entry into Australia, I bet a fair few of those are Hmm and so why pick on ND. It looks populist and vindictive and it has back fired rather badly. And if this will be seized on by anti vaxers in Australia well that’s the fault of the Australian authorities not ND.
FannyCann · 10/01/2022 08:12

Something I don't understand is if his exemption was based on him having been infected on 16 December what was his plan for getting into Australia if he hadn't happened to get conveniently infected shortly before travel dates?

Also was there ever any mention of symptoms/feeling unwell? He was lucky to make a very quick recovery to peak fitness.

That's shocking. Whether people agree with isolation or not, and even with covid, vaccines etc, to knowingly, and publicly, break the law and put children at risk is shameful. This is only known because of this visa fiasco, He certainly wasn't advertising the fact he had covid and was mixing with people when he was legally obliged to isolate, and would have kept it hidden if he hadn't to disclose it in court documents. Doesn't make him look very trustworthy, or even nice.

croon979 · 10/01/2022 08:15

So it seems as though Djokovic has triumphed on a technicality as the Government did not deal with the notice of cancellation (or whatever the right phrase is) correctly.

Difficult to know what would be best for either him or the Aus government to do now. If the Aus government revoke again he is not allowed to return for 3 years - seems unlikely they will take this option. Djokovic will be booed if he stays and plays.

Someone in this Twitter feed says he lives in Monaco and why wasn't his test done there

They also say his visa was applied for at the end of November

sweetbellyhigh · 10/01/2022 08:17

It's truly a circus 🤡

Whatever the situation, Scomo can manage to spin it to cause maximum embarrassment to Australia.

Lucidas · 10/01/2022 08:19

He also did a photoshoot with L’Equipe on the 18th, apparently.

Either he faked his test result or he’s a health risk for breaking covid isolation laws.

jamandmarmaladethesecondcoming · 10/01/2022 08:25

@Darbs76

Team Australia. Their country, their rules
^this with bells on

Used to like him but now......i've gawn right awf 'im

Roussette · 10/01/2022 08:26

A serbian reporter is saying he has been arrested and will be deported.

He won the visa appeal but the Immigration Minister has 4 hours to re-cancel his visa.

Roussette · 10/01/2022 08:27

Why in god's name doesn't he just get vaccinated. No way will he be able to play in the French or US Open.

Roussette · 10/01/2022 08:31

And this...

Novak Djokovic’s positive PCR test which he submitted to Melbourne court states that sample was taken and positive result returned on December 16, 7 hours apart.

This means all those pictures of Djokovic maskless with kids on the 17th came AFTER his positive Covid result.

And there's links to the Serbian records showing this. So no 28 days nonsense waiting for a result. 7 hours, that's all

FannyCann · 10/01/2022 08:31

So he had a positive PCR test on 16 December and a negative one on 22 December.

Seems very strange. I thought PCR were likely to stay positive for about a month after infection?

Just heard that on the bbc radio news. They did say it was unconfirmed at the moment.
Roussette · 10/01/2022 08:34

Apparently this came from his father in Serbia, no idea how true it all is.

CharlotteRose90 · 10/01/2022 08:42

He’s an arrogant arsehole. They’ve made the wrong decision allowing him and they’ll be a lot of backlash following this. He went out posing with friends and others yet he supposedly tested positive. He’s a lying piece of crap who thinks the world resolves around him. I will never watch him in tennis ever again. I hope he loses any games.

BeaLola · 10/01/2022 08:49

I think it's been reported that the French Open has already said he can attend ?

I feel obliged to watch to see the warm welcome he gets from the Melbourne crowd Wink and to hope he gets knocked out in the first round. But I think if he plays he will rise above it and probably reach the final as expected.

Sirzy · 10/01/2022 08:50

If France have said that it’s awful. My triple vaccinated partner can’t visit his mum there but he can go and play?

MaxNormal · 10/01/2022 08:52

He's certainly been a handy scapegoat, and the wave of spite in response has dutifully been supplied.
