Disgusted by excessive Xmas treats!

My kids are doing a final clear up before going back to school tomorrow, and 8yo trotted off to fetch her Xmas sweet haul which she had forgotten about and therefore barely touched.

Seeing it all laid out I am absolutely astounded by the amount of chocolate/sweets she has accumulated. (Even more horrified to realise that 5yo currently has a pile half this size despite receiving the same stuff as her elder sister!) This is over the last month alone. She also has two large tins full of the sweets she's been given at parties and Hallowe'en etc. I don't think our friends or family are particularly big on sweets so guess lots of little or one-off things have just accumulated.

AIBU to be a bit taken aback by the amount she's received? And what do other people do with it all? I don't think she'll get through it all but seems a waste to bin it.

It’s hardly a years supply.

KurtWilde · 04/01/2022 17:02

From OPs pic that's not much at all, my lot accumulated way more than that over Christmas. It'll last them a month or so and I'll 'help' Grin

I can't for the life of me understand people who waste food - gifts of food/sweets, leftovers etc. I was brought up in a house where every penny counted and food was never wasted for that reason. I never throw food away, I use it all up in one way or another. I can only think those who bin perfectly decent food don't know what it's like to go without.

MunroBagger · 04/01/2022 17:02

Do you work OP? If I took that into my (relatively) small office it would be gone within an hour.

Isthatthebestyoucando · 04/01/2022 17:03

I just don't buy treats through Jan, or until whenever the Christmas stash is gone. I've managed to get from Christmas day until now with minimal shopping all round, just small top ups hopefully until mid Jan.

Chely · 04/01/2022 17:04

Not a massive collection there. You'd probably faint if you saw what our kids got, mostly devoured now too 😱

Port1aCastis · 04/01/2022 17:05

Disgusted is crazy, just get stuck in if the DD doesn't want the candy Anyway i'll nip round and help out with the curly wurly, can't beat a beat of curly wurly on a cold night and maltesers are very nice so send some this way.

whenthedoveslie · 04/01/2022 17:06

It's just like a bottle of gin- you don't drink it all in one go!

Yeah, I didn't get that memo. Mine always say drink in as fewer sittings as possible! Grin

SunshineCake1 · 04/01/2022 17:08

This post is so baffling. How can someone be so distressed by chocolate.

Suggestions2021 · 04/01/2022 17:09

We (two adults) have rules- anything goes between Christmas and NYD Bank Holiday. Then after that it lives in our wardrobes to be eaten as a daily treat, usually in a shoe box which had a gift in Grin

We don't usually eat chocolate/sweets in any great quality as have both lost weight BUT tend to go OTT at Christmas. Probably why the scales are showing a 9lb increase Grin

Underbox · 04/01/2022 17:10

OTT much?!

Cool your jets, they are sweets not class A drugs!

You ask what to do with it all .... put them in a drawer and she'll get through it gradually. It's not compulsory to eat it all before 12th night Wink

MarshmallowFondant · 04/01/2022 17:11

DD was quite keen to try to sell some bits for charity but I can't quite see how she'd manage to sell 5p lollies, especially when few of them look brand new.

Yeah, you've gone too far now OP.

Mama, I just have SO much chocolate and sweets that I can't POSSIBLY eat, so please can you sell it so we can donate money to charity?

Aye right.

TitsInAbsentia · 04/01/2022 17:13

I'm horrified at the size of that curly wurly, not worth opening your mouth for!

spudjulia · 04/01/2022 17:15

That's an utter DISGRACE! It's AWFUL and SHOCKING. I'll pm you my address and you can post it over to me and I'll dispose of it safely.

Jenasaurus · 04/01/2022 17:16

My DD has still got all these left :)

My pal ran a Christmas party in her own time (outside of class hours) for the drama groip she runs. The kids, between 7-11, were allowed a fruit shoot h20 or cup of water, a packet of Pom bears (mumsnet style) and a single mini party bag sized packet of haribo. They were given a chocolate coin if they won various party games so each ended up with two or three. One of the parents said ‘I didn’t realize there would be so much treat food! We’ll have to rethink what we are having for tea!’

Your 10 year old ate two chocolate coins and about 5 individual haribos, you don’t have to then remove calories from the next meal

I grew up in the late nineties/early 2000s and everyone consumed larger amounts of sweets and junk, me and all my friends are slim, fit and have lovely teeth regardless.

TheBlueBear88 · 04/01/2022 17:19

Looks like a normal Tuesday night for me tbh......

grooveonthemove · 04/01/2022 17:20

@3WildOnes

Mine received a lot more chocolates and sweets than that and have nearly scoffed the lot already! Actually I ate most of the toddlers.
Punctuation saves lives! Xmas Grin
4pmwinetimebebeh · 04/01/2022 17:21

I agree with PP- really not that much stuff and certainly not to get in a tizz about. Ours are all in a jar and doled out as treats/on a weekend from now until they run out. DH has been helpful getting rid of them too Hmm.

thickthighs73 · 04/01/2022 17:24

You’ll be disgusted to learn I’ve got more than that in my cupboard and I’m going to eat it all!!!

Brilliant lol
AuntyBumBum · 04/01/2022 17:25

Could get through that in one sitting and still have room for cake.

CriminalOrator · 04/01/2022 17:25

@Jenasaurus

My DD has still got all these left :)
Cor, what’s that @Jenasaurus? That looks good!
UserError012345 · 04/01/2022 17:26

Hahaha really ?!?! Hmm

thedefinitionofmadness · 04/01/2022 17:27

There's not much there - they are verging on deprived

But maybe you can swap out one of the Santas for some celery sticks

RestingStitchFace · 04/01/2022 17:30

😱
