Dh’s language

Tangletester · 03/01/2022 21:41

I’m honestly not sure if I’m being unreasonable or not. Over the last couple of years my DH has changed the way he speaks, using language he would normally use at work and I find it really irritating.

Something is no longer just difficult, it provides us with a challenge. Instead of the taxi possibly being late they might not be time reliable. There is not a lot of point in me going back to work as ‘you can’t earn enough to change the dial’. So many more.

I have discussed this with DH he thinks I’m unreasonable and this is a normal way to speak.

AIBU??

Ugh I hate work lingo.

People in my job constantly talk about 'hitting the sweet spot'' ''going forward'' and the overuse of 'myself' and 'yourself' in places it doesn't belong (that last one is just my personal gripe) Grin

I cant wait to get away from them. I can only imagine how annoying it is at home too.
But people do just pick up phrases which then become habit. I try really hard not to 😅
You have my sympathy

LactoseTheIntolerant · 03/01/2022 22:04

Does he work for a paper company in Slough?

freelions · 03/01/2022 22:06

YANBU

If he 'reaches out' to people instead of calling or emailing them then you should definitely LTB

carlygirly · 03/01/2022 23:11

Jesus Christ. I couldn't tolerate this at home. It's bad enough hearing this crap in the office.

Our current office thing is references to the whatever "piece". The finance piece, the marketing piece etc. I watched it spread like bloody Covid. I refuse to say it.

WorraLiberty · 03/01/2022 23:12

Moving forward could you reach out to him and ask him to desist?

catbsfhs · 03/01/2022 23:13

😂
Luredbyapomegranate · 03/01/2022 23:15

Set up corporate bingo on your kitchen whiteboard, yelling BIIINNGO in in his ear should put him off
Fine him for prizes
Also go back to work, that’s short term thinking right there

Joolsin · 03/01/2022 23:19

Ugh, corporate speak - I hate it. Does he do corporate laughter too - think several blokes in suits in a boardroom all slapping each other on the back and guffawing performatively.

I second the bingo board. And you going back to work - maximum deployment of man (woman) power.

WizbitsLeftEye · 03/01/2022 23:23

I second the corporate words bingo

pinkstripeycat · 03/01/2022 23:33

When I worked in an office in 1990 the new phrase was “touching base”. I hated it!

Jjjayfee · 03/01/2022 23:50

Let's run it up the flagpole ..

olympicsrock · 03/01/2022 23:52

Does he reach out to friends / family too?

DartmoorChef · 03/01/2022 23:53

I worked in a staff canteen for a while and the supervisor would regularly say "I've had comms from H.O. re blah blah"..

Ffs woman just say you've had an email, it's not MI5.

MeSanniesareBrannies · 03/01/2022 23:55

Tell him that you’re glad that he shared his views, you’ll take them under advisement whilst horizon scanning and circle back. 😂

MamaWeasel · 03/01/2022 23:56

"Sky blue thinking".......

Just roll your eyes and say, "you're not at work now dear" every time he does it.

I'd say it's impressive, a company person.

I would of presumed, comms from hq, as military
WeeHaggisFace · 03/01/2022 23:58

I think you need to circle back with a whistle stop tour on the rules of corporate bingo

itwasntaparty · 03/01/2022 23:58

Can we step through to align with the blue sky agenda and break down the silos?

Fuck that at home!

itwasntaparty · 03/01/2022 23:59

Oh and you can have a wash up after the convo.

Envoitrevisage · 04/01/2022 00:02

I can’t stand the over use of reflexive pronouns. It’s vile.

The rest is fairly standard I think, we have a lot of it in my industry. The current flavour of the day is “pivot”…. Usually coupled with “course correction”.

BlubFestival · 04/01/2022 00:04

Has he been working from home during all/most of pandemic? It could be blurred work/home boundaries? Or has he been promoted? Got a new boss? Anything that might be making work play on his mind more.

It is really cringe either way.

Can't hear the word pivot without thinking of Ross in Friends 😂😂

That made me snort
needmoreshinys · 04/01/2022 00:28

He is being unreasonable to think its normal, but I was talking about my DP the other day to my mum and actually said the letters D P rather than his name, she looked very confused, as such I am taking a break from the internet
