At primary school, we sometimes used to have "cheese puffs" for dinner. I'm fairly certain they were just puff pastry and cheese but I can't replicate them. They were kind of like a cross between cake and a Yorkshire pudding inside, and looked like a scone.

Cant find a recipe that looks right on google. I'm aware they have no nutritional value but I really want to taste these again. Anyone else have a silly childhood food like this?

(And if you know what I'm talking about and have the recipe I'd be eternally grateful Wink)

At boarding school in the 90s we had something called TomToms, they were like little chicken balls coated in breadcrumbs but had tomato sauce in the middle (a bit like the turkey mini Kiev's you can get now but with tomato sauce not the garlic butter)

Teenage me absolutely loved them, they were probably the turkey twizzlers if the day. Never seen them since and noone except my partner (who went to the same school) has ever heard of them!!

My dad has mentioned Kunzle cakes recently they were cup cake sort of things with soft coloured butter icing and the cup cake shell was chocolate.

No one I've mentioned them to has known of them but I do have a vague memory my mum bought them and they were made by Lyons.

I remember these. They were delicious.

Used to love this hot cheese flan type thing at school, was bloody amazing. Going to try and find the recipe online now 😋😋

Sara Lee pecan pie was divine. I still peer into supermarket freezers in the vain hope it might reappear one day.

Also M&S used to make white chocolate eclairs which were incredible and felt like the height of sophistication in my teens.

DM used to make lemon meringue pie from a "kit" when we were kids. The lemon bit was made from a kind of yellow bean that melted down into a curd. I think you had to add water or milk. I remember watching the bean dissolve in the pan. Does anyone else remember this?
Yes! I absolutely loved this it was fab, you added water and the egg yolk for the lemony bit and the white for the meringue. Seemed very sophisticated at the time.

Also, Greens I think was the company that made it, they also did a caramel dessert too, you had a sachet of caramel sauce, you made it with milk, poured the milk mixture onto the caramel in a small ramekin and then cooled it to go in the fridge.

Lardy cake 😍 my Mum used to buy it from the bakery for a weekly treat. It was lovely!
Yes. We had lardy cake too. Mum would split it, butter it and put it in the aga. Then out for a walk and have that when we got back.

Our local bakery was Fudges who are now a huge company and you can buy their biscuits in supermarkets, but back then they were just a village bakers. They don’t make lardy cake anymore.

Yes I remember that. The little capsule that would melt!

Maple Table Creams. Packet of powder desert, mixed with milk that made alight brown jelly/blancmange layer and thin foamy top layer. My Nana used to make them up. They did a strawberry flavour too but that was nothing special.

I've remembered Freaky Feet yoghurts, I think they were called that? The pots had feet. And Munch Bunch yoghurt. When we used to visit my dad's mother in Mansfield there was a bakery called Don Miller's and they did the nicest jam doughnuts I've ever had in my life.
The Freaky feet yoghurts, bring back loads of memories for me, thank you. My gran used to clean them out and put little plants in them so they looked like they had hair.

Tinned steak pudding, peas and instant mash made with the water from the tinned peas so you get green mash.

Angel delight (just bought a pack on offer in Aldi, just waiting for the disappointment)

Sainsburys liver sausage on a crusty roll with ketchup. Used to have 2 for my morning break in my early 20s, didn't put weight on then though.

CounsellorTroi · 03/01/2022 09:23

Heinz tinned spag bol. I know you can still get it but it’s not the same - doesn’t contain any meat!

Inastatus · 03/01/2022 09:24

@cobblers123 - you can still get Creme Carmel. My mum used to make it regularly as a Sunday treat - delish!

Doesn’t it? I loved this too! I’m going to have to buy some now!

Roast pork and gravy from a chip shop in Coventry . This was about 1985 and we lived on the other side of town but once a month we would drive over and get it . I've never had it since or seen it advertised but it was amazing

That's it, I will have a look when I am next out, forgot it was called Carmelle. Thank you Inastatus Grin

NinaDefoe · 03/01/2022 09:31

Heinz meaty spag bol still exists!
Thank God for that! 😅🥳

Thank you Jackstini. You’ve made my day, I’ve been asking people for years if anyone remembered them but no one did. I vaguely remember the tune now too 👍🏻

ThePlumVan · 03/01/2022 09:51

@Lizzy1980 They we’re triangle with big holes in and soooo tasty !!!!
I’ve been looking for them for years Sad

UsernameNotSavedAgain · 03/01/2022 09:56

@lightisnotwhite

UsernameNotSavedAgain We have a small market that sells them on the stall that does oddly large samosas and random cheeses.

If I’m ever off work during the week day it’s running I have to get one for me, one for brother and one for my work friend as they are impossible to find anywhere else.

Ah you’re so lucky! I’ve googled in the past and can’t find anywhere local to me that sells it Sad

Just been looking online. They were around in the mid eighties and have been long discontinued. I’d love to try them again to see if they were as good as I remember

Yes!! My mum made this as a treat after Sunday lunch sometimes.
@KohlaParasaurus Iceland sell macaroni cheese pasties. My teen DD tells me they are delicious
Thanks, I must investigate! I was reminded of my teenage macaroni pie habit when I saw them in Brownings in Ayrshire on a trip last year. I'd assumed they were extinct.

Potato fritters from the chip shop after swimming or Brownies when I was at primary school. Most of my food nostalgia seems to be for double carbs laden with salt.
