To just want to go for a walk

Fedupmummy88 · 02/01/2022 10:01

Whole household tested positive for covid Christmas Day (Dh, me, dc1 7 years old and dc2 8 months old) luckily we seem to have had relatively minor symptoms (cold and flu like for a few days for me, same for DH for a bit longer, coughs in the children) and now thankfully all feel fine

Dh is now testing negative on day 6 and 7 do is back to work today as per the government guidance. The children are both negative as well.

I however am still testing positive despite having less symptoms than DH and feeling fine since about Tuesday.

Children aren't sleeping well especially the 8 month old and I definitely think it's the lack of fresh air. With school runs they are used to being out on a walk at least an hour a day and now they have barely left the house.

I know it is but would it be totally unreasonable to go out for a short walk through the woods at the back of the house? We live in quite a remote area and rarely see anyone in the woods and I just want to get out. Have no interest in going anywhere else (luckily we had a food shop delivered Thursday and have had family drop anything we need at the door.)

Also feeling sorry for the eldest DC as this is the second Christmas holidays we've been isolating as DH got Covid at the same time last year! It's also my last couple of weeks off before returning to work after maternity leave next week.

I probably won't go out as I'll feel too guilty but just wondered if anyone would in these circumstances?

Yes I would. The risk to anyone else of walking in the woods is almost zero. Even if there are other people there you won't infect them briefly passing by in the open air. People will be in the supermarket alongside people who have covid and don't realise, and sitting on the bus next to people who've spent new year's eve in nightclubs. Which I think puts it into perspective.

As a PP said, general opinion is shifting and the difference between those who are moving on and those still in a "March 2020" mindset is getting wider.

And thank the Lord for that. The hysterical voices which were all we’ve heard for the last two years are finally being drowned out by some common sense.

Reminds me of the dark days of the first lockdown when riding horses was advised against by the British Equestrian Federation. Various online horse groups were full of those decrying anyone who rode, even if they were doing so on welfare grounds for the horses (they aren’t machines, you can’t just turn them off if you’re not using them). No-one dared admit publicly that they were riding for risk of a flaming, but we were all doing it anyway, just quietly in a risk-assessed/risk-reduced way.

Same as all this, really. I bet most sensible people have done things like go for a walk at the crack of dawn in a quiet area all along, they just didn’t admit it because of the hysterics and bullies. The tide is finally turning towards some sort of sanity, although I guess there’ll always be the “Well, I complied with every rule because I can’t think for myself, so why should it be different for you” brigade…

@milly74

Yes go out. Ignore the covid freaks on here
This Covid freak has already been hospitalised with Covid, lost close ones and I'm still suffering the effects of long Covid. That makes me a freak for thinking you should follow the rules and stay in a few more bloody days!!!??? Selfish idiots I swear to god
GrannyWeatherwaxsHatpin · 02/01/2022 13:24

And what risk do you think the OP poses by walking alone in an empty, outside space?

I am sorry for your illness and losses but lots of illness cause hospitalisation, death and long-term post-viral conditions. That is not a reason to forget accurate risk assessment and common sense.

Is it worth the risk for a few more days, who knows what could happen. All I know is I wouldn't take the risk...for myself and got others. It's a few bloody days.
MarshmallowFondant · 02/01/2022 13:26

Another vote for going for a walk. The risk is zero is you're outside, see nobody.

I can't believe that almost 2 years in we're still hearing the STAY THE FUCK AT HOME nonsense.

amidsummernightsdream · 02/01/2022 13:27

Honestly, I’d go

Common sense would be to stay home.

I'm so unreasonably (grief and illness can do that) angry after reading this thread that I'm not going to look anymore

Go for your unnecessary walk op. Hope you recover well.

Spikeyball · 02/01/2022 13:36

Going for a walk and keeping your distance from others is safe. The only reason it is not allowed is because some people can't be trusted to keep away from others when they go out.

ashorterday · 02/01/2022 13:39

Absolutely I would go for a walk.

@forlornlorna

I know it's hard, most of us have been there now but just stick to the rules. What if something happens while your out, you trip etc and need help. Then you've probably passed it in to anyone who helps you etc. I dunno op I just think of others and how this virus might harm them. 19 year old fit and strong lad on our estate died from Covid last year, daughter works in a care home that lost so many residents to it, I think we have to remind ourselves sometimes that this virus kills
What about if she falls down the stairs in her house, what about, what about!

It's not likely!

Coyoacan · 02/01/2022 13:41

Some people are so literal about the law.

I honestly don't understand why you are even asking, OP. The reason for the law to avoid you infecting other people. If there aren't any other people in the woods, you are still obeying the meaning of the law.

Some people are so incapable of thinking for themselves that they will do things that will infect other people just because the law permits it.

This poster name changed just to post on this thread. Interesting (and not a surprise!)

FunnysInLaJardin · 02/01/2022 13:43

Where I live it is legal to have 2 hours daily exercise if you have covid, provided you avoid other people, and so yes I would go out.

Changed it a few days ago after accidentally outing myself a bit in a post. I got paranoid lol. I'd have no need to name change do I. I've not been mean or horrible. Just putting my opinion across.

FunnysInLaJardin · 02/01/2022 13:46

It honestly really helps with your mental health

Perhaps it would be better if you permanently isolated yourself[/quote]
Oh thanks lol! I'm off to cry into my biscuit tin as I'm so hurt 😂

Pootle40 · 02/01/2022 13:48

@PurpleDaisies

It’s against the law. You could be fined. I absolutely wouldn’t do this.

When’s your isolation final date? It’s really rotten to be stuck in. Flowers

Have you heard yourself?
Pootle40 · 02/01/2022 13:50

@Omicrone

Can't believe there are actually people saying don't do this - the world has gone nuts!
You said it right there. Beyond nuts. Police arresting people for dancing while all manner of crimes go on around them. The brainwashing will never be reversed for some.
MarshmallowFondant · 02/01/2022 13:51

I don't have woods at the back of my house. I live in deepest suburbia.

I do go for walks all the time though and know the places where I am likely to come across other people - dog walkers at the local park, parents dropping off at the local nursery, the high street with shops/banks/cafes. I usually listen to podcasts on my walks so avoid noisy/busy roads anyway, I can walk on a route for about 5 miles around very quiet residential streets passing nobody.

As for the breath thing - it's like that government ad with the 2 blokes talking and black smoke coming out of their mouths. In a closed room there's nowhere for that "smoke" to go, so it lingers. Outside, any "smoke" would be dissipated and blown away by the wind and is pretty much zero risk. Same as the silliness about sitting on grass and touching stiles - nobody's going to catch covid because you sat down for a virtuous snack/bag of crisps.

EmmasMum12 · 02/01/2022 13:52

It is against the law and you could be fined if someone reports you

However if you don't think anyone will report you, leave your phone at home and go for a walk somewhere where you won't come into contact with anyone else

100problems · 02/01/2022 13:55

I would. Avoid all others. Risk based approach.

Be prepared to be exhausted though. I didn't realise how much it robs your energy whilst I was sitting indoors.
