Seriously. FFS. Is this what pushing 50 looks like?

Someone tell me I just need to do some more keigels (sp?) and it'll all be ok?

Suddenly I finding it hard to get to the toilet on time.

Please give me some hope?

Are you menopausal? I found bladder control an issue once I started peri menopause, I'm a few months on hrt and it's made a huge difference, I'll be starting localised hormone treatment after next check up and that's meant to make an even bigger difference, chat do your gp about it

Luredbyapomegranate · 30/12/2021 01:15

This isn’t normal for someone approaching 50, but being significantly overweight can cause it.

I’d go back to another GP snd ask if it could be anything sinister. Otherwise do your exercises and if possible loose some weight.

RobertSmithsLipstick · 30/12/2021 01:17

It's not meant as a dig, but your weight won't be helping at all.
I lost 4st a few years back, and an unexpected bonus was not peeing myself regularly.

Bluebuddha10 · 30/12/2021 01:17

This happened to me, also 2 DC. My doctor referred me to specialist and I was diagnosed with an overactive bladder, and given medication for - absolutely life changing. I would push your gp for a referral

BourbonScreams · 30/12/2021 01:19

@WorraLiberty Yes me either Hmm

Dianetheartist · 30/12/2021 01:20

I had physio for my weak bladder a few years ago-- she told me to stop caffeine because it irritates the bladder, and it definitely works.
.I have decaf coffee, but if I have a normal one--I'm running for a wee all the day.
Diabetes can make you drink lots more and wee much more, if you are a bit overweight its best to get checked, just in case.
Also if you are overweight puts more pressure on your bladder.
I would also see a different GP...she sounds as much use as a chocolate teapot!

JustLyra · 30/12/2021 01:21

Go back to your GP. If you can see a different one at the practice.

I was fobbed off for three years that it was age/post pregnancy related and entirely normal. It’s not

Not sure why there are Hmm faces disbelieving the OPs experience with her GP - it’s well known women are often fobbed off with “it’s normal” for medical issues. Especially anything that can be related to pregnancy, periods or menopause.

BourbonScreams · 30/12/2021 01:25

@JustLyra Oh I know, that's very common. Anyone who experiences that should certainly look for a second opinion.

Buddycav · 30/12/2021 01:28

I was in the same position as you two years ago, after trying physio and medication all with no joy I now have Botox injections in my bladder. What a difference no need to use pads any more and they usually last about 9 -10 months and I then have them again. Ask to be referred to a urologist.

PrincessNutella · 30/12/2021 03:55

Your GP is not doing her job. This is not okay. You should definitely see a urologist.

RedHot22 · 30/12/2021 04:01

It’s not to do with your age or amount of children. More likely to be because you’re significantly overweight. However, your GP should be investigating it further

shenanigans5 · 30/12/2021 04:20

I’m so surprised your GP didn’t help with any lifestyle factors and ask about caffeine, alcohol and offer weight loss support.

I think I’d ask a different gp at the surgery for an examination, blood sugar tests for type 2 diabetes and lifestyle support. Best of luck!

Are you on HRT? This is a v common menopausal symptom that can be rectified easily with localised oestrogen. See your gp and ask to be referred for tests to get everything checked out and a prescription for localised oestrogen to use in the meantime.

Unreasonabubble · 30/12/2021 06:08

Sorry! Sorry! Sorry! Have not read the whole of the thread.

Have you considered you might have a UTI? I say this because every now and then I get one (no sex included) and it makes my bladder so weak.

Get your GP to check you out.

Twotinydictators · 30/12/2021 06:46

I agree with PPs on losing weight, since the birth of DS6 I was leaking urine slightly and had to wear pantyliners daily. Since losing 3 1/2 stone it has completely stopped. I didn't expect it but I'm so.pleased, it had such an affect on my confidence.

If GP rules out medical issues I really recommend it....get the most out of your 50s!

GoodnightGrandma · 30/12/2021 06:50

Ask to be referred to a women’s physio.
They will check your pelvic floor and check that you’re doing your exercises right.

Chunkymenrock · 30/12/2021 06:54

Peri menopause has caused bladder sensitivity in me. I'm 51, overweight, 2 kids and no previous problems. I'm frequently dashing to the toilet. Just started on hrt after bloods to rule out other things. I'd speak to your doctor.

echt · 30/12/2021 06:57

This is very good, and I by that I mean I use them, though you should still be checked out by a relevant expert:

Kweenie · 30/12/2021 06:58

Go to a women's health physiotherapists and get a urologist referral

ruthypfdraper · 30/12/2021 07:00

I recommend the squeezy app, it costs a couple of quid, but has really helped me remember to do kegels, and I've noticed an improvement in symptoms after a few weeks of three times a day.

ShippingNews · 30/12/2021 07:01

You might have a prolapse - there are treatments for this. In the meantime use incont pads so you don't have to worry about getting to the toilet on time.

Paq · 30/12/2021 07:06

How overweight are you? It might be better to address that while you are seeking treatment. I imagine waiting times for referrals will be significant and even longer due to covid.

BabyFeb22 · 30/12/2021 07:08

My mum is the same age as you and was suffering so badly with this a couple of years ago that if she got stuck in traffic coming home from work (25 mins drive) she would pee herself. She begged the GP for a referral and they found she had an overactive and I believe it was a tilted bladder. She was put on medication which did help a little but ended up having a bladder lift operation around a year ago- it didn't work instantly but after about 4 months she's now 'fixed' as she puts it. She said it's the best thing she's ever done so push the doctors, tell them how down it's getting you. Good luck! X

coodawoodashooda · 30/12/2021 07:15

@dinahsdishes

Caffeine irritates the bladder- you should only drink clear liquids- no fizz or artificial sweeteners and no caffeine. You need a referral to women's physio and also gynaecology to check for prolapses
I didn't know this. Thank you.
