Dog howling next door- nobody home

There's a dog howling next door. We are semi detached. It's been going for hours pretty much nonstop. They don't have a dog but their visiting relations do. They've been out for hours. It's a biggish dog- Hungarian viszla I think. Howls like a bloodhound. It's honestly so loud in the house that my son can't sleep in his bedroom because it shares an adjoining wall with next door and he's frightened by the sound.

Why would you bring a dog to visit and then ditch it in an unfamiliar house for half a day or more to sit on its own? Probably thinks it's been abandoned. But what can I even do about it? No idea where the neighbour is, don't know him well enough to have his number, don't know who even deals with stuff like this, if anyone! I want them to know that dog has been unhappy being abandoned all day and as a result, we have been unhappy all day!

Record the poor dog and when they get back play it at full volume right at the shared wall.

My husband went and spoke to the neighbour and got told that it's not the neighbours problem the dog howls, he's never heard it, it's not his dog, its distress isn't an issue and it's going home today. Husband says when we go out tomorrow, with our dog, he is contemplating putting all of our Alexa's next to the shared wall repeating a dog howling sound on a loop for twelve hours and see how the neighbour likes it.

Thank God they're going home today. Hopefully your neighbour doesn't get a dog!

I think you should

good for your dh,
do it

ILoveSushi12345 · 29/12/2021 17:35

Do it. I absolutely fucking HATE selfish, thick bastards like this. If I returned home and was told by a neighbour my untrained, barking mutt had been making everyone's life a misery for hours on end I'd be absolutely mortified. Fuck the neighbour and fuck barking dogs as well.

Why don’t you offer to look after the dog with your one while they are out?

😂😂 Amazing - become a dog sitter for irresponsible and inconsiderate pet owners 😂😂, like you have nothing else to do with your life.

Please do this.

I feel so sorry for that dog though.

whatisheupto · 29/12/2021 19:24

OP did you video or record any of the noise?

Stupid suggestion

My next door neighbour has a dog who howls. He doesn’t just howl, he full on screams. It’s horrible to hear and I know having company would help. But I have two a lot smaller dogs, and whilst they get on outside the house, I’m not risking my small dogs so he stops howling.

How utterly horrid of them Angry

Our neighbours dog started crying in the evenings. I spoke to them it wasn't a noise complaint it was "your beloved dog is unhappy".

Turned out in the evenings the DDog usually sits in lounge with owner but when she went out left it in her usual areas of utility room. Neighbour out dog in lounge in evenings dog quite happy 🤷🏽‍♀️ DDog clearly liked her routine!!! 🤣
