To wonder why I didn’t get engaged this weekend?

(Lighthearted because knowing me I’ve probably got totally the wrong end of the stick)
Last week I stumbled across a ring box hidden away (I honestly wasn’t snooping I just accidentally found it while putting something away). Obviously I didn’t say anything. But now we’ve had Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day and no proposal.
I’m just baffled generally tbh as we’re not that type of couple, we’ve always said when we want to get married we’ll just start planning it together. We’ve had quite an up and down year with covid obviously and DP got ill in the summer, but we also had our first successful pregnancy so I thought maybe he’d decided to make a big gesture. But nothing.
Has he changed his mind? 😂
Was it not actually for me? 😂
It’s so silly I just keep laughing at myself. What’s going on?? 😂😂

Don’t do the eyes shut thing in case it’s full of maggots (bitter experience)

Maybe he isn't going to do it on any currently special day, I asked dp to avoid dates that already marked things incase the worst happened and I didn't want to associate it with that day.

@BlackCatz Genuine question! Or at least just ask him what's in the box! She's not a passenger in this process, she's one half of the couple. Marriage is a joint effort, not something engineered by one party.

People shouldn’t be encouraging her to look in the box.

If it’s an engagement ring then she’ll spoil the surprise.

If it’s a different piece of jewellery then clearly it’s for someone else and it is going to cause doubt and upset.

I would leave it a few weeks and then come clean. Say you found the box but didn’t open it and now you’re confused. I’ve heard of men buying a ring and then changing their mind for instance.No good can come of opening the box.

My brother and his wife were lovely together and really happy but my brother waited for months before asking her. They had been together for about 5 years by then and told me he had a ring. Also asked her dad’s ‘permission’ as he knew how much that would mean to her. Then we waited months before he actually proposed. Was beginning to think he had changed his mind and I know his FIL wondered too cos he mentioned it in his speech on their wedding day! 😆 not really sure what the delay was but I think he was trying to work out the best way/ time to do it. No doubt if my SIL had found the box she would have thought similar to you

I would have the quickest peek. Long enough to make out the item but quick enough that you don’t see the detail

Can you open it but with your eyes blurred? 😄 So you can tell what it is but not the detail?
