To ask if you drink bathroom water?

I'm in hospital with norovirus at 38 weeks pregnant. I can't keep anything down and haven't eaten in 3 days now. I'm dying of thirst, despite being on a drip to rehydrate me. My lips are cracked and bleeding and my mouth is so dry it's an effort to swallow.
I asked the nurse for a jug of water well over an hour ago and nothing has appeared. I've asked numerous times and so far only been given half a jug over the last 24 hours. It's not enough.
I messaged DP who said 'just get bathroom water'. But the sinks all have signs on them in my room saying DO NOT DRINK. Will I be okay if I fill my empty jug and get some bathroom water in me? I feel like I'm being tortured.

I definitely wouldn't in a communal bathroom in a hospital, no.

Sorry OP that actually sounds like torture.

JohnSmithDrive · 27/12/2021 19:05

No. I'd drink it in my bathroom because I know it comes from the mains, but if it's from a tank, which it is if it says not drinking water, I wouldn't.

That's awful though OP. Don't they have a tea trolley, the staff usually fill jugs routinely?

Or is there a day room where you could get water?

If not you (or DH) should speak to the ward manager.

RedCandyApple · 27/12/2021 19:06

No I don’t even in my home but it’s a water tank so no

DockOTheBay · 27/12/2021 19:07

Keep asking OP, this is basic care. Can you walk to the nurses station?

PinkiOcelot · 27/12/2021 19:07

I do at home but wouldn’t in that setting. Could your DP bring you some bottles in?

NiceTwin · 27/12/2021 19:07

No, don't have it if it says do not drink.
It is probably grey water ie. Rainwater that is collected and tank stored.

rrhuth · 27/12/2021 19:09

Do not drink water from a tap with a sign saying 'do not drink' Shock

Press your bell and ask for water.

BerthaBlythe · 27/12/2021 19:09

I wouldn’t drink the bathroom water but I would expect my partner to ring the ward manager and kick up a stink. Perhaps contact PALS too.

PrivateHall · 27/12/2021 19:10

No, but I would walk to the nurses station and stay there until they provide you with a jug - maybe even ask them can you fill it yourself if they will point you in the right direction. This is completely unacceptable! I am absolutely furious on your behalf!

frenchfancy81 · 27/12/2021 19:10

Press the bell until you get some water x

Fetchthevet · 27/12/2021 19:10

That's terrible OP., you poor thing. Please keep asking.

Justkeeppedaling · 27/12/2021 19:11

Can DH come in with a 6 pack of Evian in the morning? Even if he's "not allowed", if I were him, I'd come anyway. That's unacceptable by the hospital.

Theimpossiblegirl · 27/12/2021 19:16

Ring your bell and keep ringing it until you get water.
That is basic care, no matter how busy they are it needs to be provided.

Alittlenonsensenowandthen · 27/12/2021 19:17

As someone who was laid up pregnant in hospital, and didn't get water in a heat wave to the point I ended up dehydrated and on a drip because of it, I'd say keep ringing that bell!

TragoCardboardCopper · 27/12/2021 19:18

Can you walk? If yes, find someone and ask them to fill the jug. Wait there until they do. Tell them you've been asking and no one has done it, they you've only had half a jug since yesterday. Don't be rude, but dont let them fob you off.

If you can't walk, press the bell and do the same when they come.

Whenever I've been in hospital they've been really on top of making sure I'm drinking (even when on a rehydration drip). Are the housekeepers coming into the room at all OP? If you're not eating so no food required, I'm wondering if they even know you're there?! Obviously the nurses and HCAs do, but do the people who routinely fill the jugs know you are?

I've just thought, they've bit got you down (mistakenly) as 'nil by mouth' have they?!

itsallgoneshitflavoured · 27/12/2021 19:19

I've rang and asked numerous times and the water never materialises. I'm in isolation and not allowed to leave the room, otherwise I'd have got up and dragged my drip down the corridor to find my own water.
Last night I opened the door and asked for some help and a doctor shouted at me. I kind of feel like I'm being a huge inconvenience by being here. Sad

DH needs to phone the ward manager now.
TragoCardboardCopper · 27/12/2021 19:20

I've assumed you're in a single room from the bit where you say 'my room', but if you're on a multiple bed bay/ward then it's even worse!

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 27/12/2021 19:20

Go and vomit in the corridor and refuse to move until you are given water.

shouldistop · 27/12/2021 19:20

Sadly after having had numerous hospitalisations myself I'm not surprised by your treatment. I was left soaked in my own urine for a day despite buzzing constantly.
Buzz the buzzer constantly. Don't take your finger off it until you have water

FindingMeno · 27/12/2021 19:20

Don't drink bathroom water.
If you can get to bathroom water, track down a member of staff instead.
If not ring the bell.
Your care is important.

SunnyLeaf · 27/12/2021 19:20

Absolutely make a fuss, and don’t drink bathroom water

HeidiHaus · 27/12/2021 19:22

Bloody hell that's awful. Get your DH to phone and raise hell with management. Obviously they're busy but how long does it take to bring a jug of water? I'm fuming on your behalf Angry

itsallgoneshitflavoured · 27/12/2021 19:22

Because of the isolation no one can come in including housekeepers and water jug angels. I have one nurse and she's clearly rushed off her feet.

I'm also absolutely starving after three days without a morsel of food, but allowed nothing. They've left the menus out for me to peruse though. Hmm

girlmom21 · 27/12/2021 19:22

OP if going out into the corridor gets their attention then do it. They're depriving you of a basic human right. Let them get shitty.
