To ask if you drink bathroom water?

I'm in hospital with norovirus at 38 weeks pregnant. I can't keep anything down and haven't eaten in 3 days now. I'm dying of thirst, despite being on a drip to rehydrate me. My lips are cracked and bleeding and my mouth is so dry it's an effort to swallow.
I asked the nurse for a jug of water well over an hour ago and nothing has appeared. I've asked numerous times and so far only been given half a jug over the last 24 hours. It's not enough.
I messaged DP who said 'just get bathroom water'. But the sinks all have signs on them in my room saying DO NOT DRINK. Will I be okay if I fill my empty jug and get some bathroom water in me? I feel like I'm being tortured.

Sorry that was to @ponkydonkey

loobylou10 · 27/12/2021 21:02

@ponkydonkey Wow, that escalated quickly! No need for that

ponkydonkey · 27/12/2021 21:03

Oh she's been on my case since I posted... 🙄
She's the bloody thread police or what

Any way it's bloody outrageous that no water is given or brought! Just giving a few options
And no one has time to read entire threads 😬😬😬

whynotwhatknot · 27/12/2021 21:03

glad you got your water op-i know theyre understaffed but that was no excuse to leave you without after asking several times then going off shift and still not handing over properly

whysoserious123 · 27/12/2021 21:12

Hopefully this nurse will stay on top of your water needs !
Hopefully you are on the mend

Presumably you said something nasty to me? Cute. Shame MNHQ got to it before I did.

It's easy to filter to the OP's updates if you don't want to read the full thread, for future reference Smile

I begged for water 3 hours after birth, following an episiotomy, a 3rd degree tear and losing 1.75l of blood. The HCA on duty said I had to get it myself. 6 midwives we're on a break together in a restroom opposite my bed. I walked to get it - about 75 metres, there and back, and collapsed when I got back to my bed.

By 8am the next day my kidneys had had a critical injury and my room was full of doctors and nurses.

Not a pleasant experience!!!

Twilight7777 · 27/12/2021 21:33

Please keep ringing the bell until you get an answer. If needs be ring the ward yourself and tell them that your relative hasn’t drank in 24 hours, and you will be taking it to the daily mail, that’ll put a rocket up their arse

saleorbouy · 27/12/2021 21:47

I'd mention to the next passing healthcare worker that you're contemplating drinking the bathroom water and see if a jug arrives any faster.
The main reason is is signed as non drinking is due to legionalla rather can cause legionnaires disease. The water is often from a storage tank rather than directly piped off the mains.

paradyning · 27/12/2021 22:36

Update. She now has water. Rtft

OnlyClothes · 27/12/2021 23:09

@itsallgoneshitflavoured

Can I ask that when you can, when you feel up to it, can you or your husband make a written complaint about this?

(I say this as someone who works in a hospital.)

itsallgoneshitflavoured · 27/12/2021 23:43

All is well now on the nursing front. I've got two utter legends looking after me, they're so lovely.
I had the baby monitored for half an hour and then went and ran myself a quick bath. Ever since then I've been dribbling fluid. I hope it's just bath water, but seems a pretty big amount actually. Considering I went for a wee after my bath too and there was nothing then. 🤷‍♀️

BungleandGeorge · 27/12/2021 23:46

Let them know, they can check with an indicator whether it’s amniotic fluid!

SleepingStandingUp · 27/12/2021 23:47

Tell the nurses, you can put a pad in that will detect if it's amniotic fluid or not x

itsallgoneshitflavoured · 27/12/2021 23:58

I put a pad in after my bath as they've been a bit of extra security what with having the uncontrollable shits.
I've just checked again. It's a pinkish tinged fluid with a few snotty lumps in it. Sorry if that's TMI.

Could def be your show. I framed when my plug came out with ds1 (I was 32 weeks and away from home with friends but no DS in my defence) but it did look like a huge bogey 😂😂

SleepingStandingUp · 28/12/2021 00:09

Freaked
Not framed

badg3r · 28/12/2021 00:20

Yes yes that'll be your plug! Sounds like this is turning into a birth thread OP! So excited for you!

itsallgoneshitflavoured · 28/12/2021 00:41

Oh God, I'm terrified of giving birth in the midst of a norovirus infection. As if it's not harrowing and painful enough already, I'll also be shitting and vomiting my way through it.
The midwife looked at my pad and she says it looks like my waters have gone. She said to put a new pad in and she'll be back in half an hour to see what's going on.

Fayekrista · 28/12/2021 00:54

The water from the bathroom wont kill you if you're desperate. Not ideal but risks are minimal.
I'd be kicking the fuck off, but maybe I'm I'm little more ancy than you are.
If I repeatedly asked for the basic necessity of water & it wasn't being provided (physical ability considered) I'd be up that corridor causing havoc.
Think like this... you are not asking for a 5 star meal or champagne.... just water.
I know not everyone is wired to act but think mumma bear... you'd fight for your child to be tended to.... you need to look after you too. Stand up for yourself

MissMaple82 · 28/12/2021 00:57

That's really really really bad. Honk on that alarm and demand some water.

You can do it lovely! I was sick throughout my labour anyway due to all the drugs and exhaustion - they've seen all sorts of bodily fluids, don't panic Thanks

Most of us puke up and subsequently shit ourselves during the second stage in any case.

Please say that wasn't just me

douliket · 28/12/2021 01:12

Make sure to keep relating to every nurse that comes in about the horrendous day you went through with so little water, let them know u realise the ward was busy but keep relaying the torture you felt. Request that it is written into to your notes that you have water topped up regularly, this is not unreasonable, this is for your own health and the babies,I know you are on a drip but the Niro virus can make u extremely dry and being in distress is not good for either u or baby. Also get hubby to drop in 6 large two liter bottles of water for emergencies. He can drop them to reception and they will be brought up to you. I'm sorry op that you had to go through that

Yes, I've puked and shat with my three previous babies. But I fear this will be much worse. Confirmed that my waters have broken.
