To ask if you drink bathroom water?

I'm in hospital with norovirus at 38 weeks pregnant. I can't keep anything down and haven't eaten in 3 days now. I'm dying of thirst, despite being on a drip to rehydrate me. My lips are cracked and bleeding and my mouth is so dry it's an effort to swallow.
I asked the nurse for a jug of water well over an hour ago and nothing has appeared. I've asked numerous times and so far only been given half a jug over the last 24 hours. It's not enough.
I messaged DP who said 'just get bathroom water'. But the sinks all have signs on them in my room saying DO NOT DRINK. Will I be okay if I fill my empty jug and get some bathroom water in me? I feel like I'm being tortured.

Best of luck OP. Thinking of you and fingers crossed for a smooth delivery. Flowers

ginandvomits · 28/12/2021 01:45

So glad you've got your water and in a better headspace now with the new nurse. Best of luck with your labor, hoping you've got most of it out of your system if you've had nil food for a few days now. Are you able to have an energy drink or something to pick you up?

SleepingStandingUp · 28/12/2021 01:59

Eek!! It could still be a while op, how long have you had norovorus for so far and how long does it last??

Saoirse82 · 28/12/2021 02:02

That sounds barbaric and makes me really scared for anyone who has to go into hospital who can't use their voice. How many other people is this happening to that aren't able to ask for water or be able bodied enough to fetch it? Disgraceful.
Glad you got your water though OP. There's absolutely no excuse for it, if the other nurse was so run off her feet how come it wasn't an issue for the others?
I hope everything goes well with the birth, could you ask for an ELCS if you're to ill or weak for labour? I gave birth 6 weeks ago and the care I received is amazing, I see a lot on here about poor post partum care but my midwives and HCA were absolutely amazing. I had a c section and lost a fair amount of blood but if I rang my bell nothing was too much trouble and my water jug was refilled before I had to ask! My ante natal care was great too. I hope you receive similar care and your water saga was just a one off because of a shit nurse. Good luck with the birth, please update us!

@Fayekrista

The water from the bathroom wont kill you if you're desperate. Not ideal but risks are minimal. I'd be kicking the fuck off, but maybe I'm I'm little more ancy than you are. If I repeatedly asked for the basic necessity of water & it wasn't being provided (physical ability considered) I'd be up that corridor causing havoc. Think like this... you are not asking for a 5 star meal or champagne.... just water. I know not everyone is wired to act but think mumma bear... you'd fight for your child to be tended to.... you need to look after you too. Stand up for yourself
I wasn't feeling very mumma bear when I didn't know which end of myself to deal with first. I'm usually very capable of getting my needs across and outlining boundaries, but I have to admit that my strength just deserted me last night. I'm feeling better now I'm more hydrated but still dreading giving birth with fucking norovirus. 🙈

Thank you. I think I did indeed just have a very very shit nurse. These two are fabulous.

Ring your bell. Water is a basic need. Hope you get some soon.

Why do people keep calling them nurses? If you’re in the UK they’re midwives

DogsandCatsB4u · 28/12/2021 07:10

No please don’t
Bug the nurse she should be doing her job properly

I think the OP is in a regular ward, not an ante natal one.

Good luck, itsallgoneshitflavoured.

BigYellowHat · 28/12/2021 08:17

Screw being in isolation. They’re not treating you with respect so just head on down to the nurses station, that’ll get their attention.

rainbowstardrops · 28/12/2021 09:41

Bloody hell, you're definitely going through it!
I hope labour doesn't start until you're feeling a bit more ready. Good luck! Thanks

Singlebutmarried · 28/12/2021 09:42

OP so glad you’ve managed to get some water and I hope the soup stayed down.

Fingers crossed you’ll get through labour smoothly.

As for DH, mine can be a bit like that (I’ve just spent Christmas in hospital which was fun), but I know the bloke and while there’s a strain of knobhead running through, he’s pretty alright really.

Good luck OP

itsallgoneshitflavoured · 28/12/2021 18:19

A quick update. I went in to active labour at about 6am and he was born at 7.40am weighing 8lbs 1oz. I'm so in love with him. No major dramas, it happened so quickly that if I did projectile any bodily fluids I don't recall and no one mentioned it. Grin

mrsbyers · 28/12/2021 19:47

They may need to monitor your input and output while on a drip but they should be providing as
A bare minimum some special foam sticks that allow you to moisten your lips

DobbyTheHouseElk · 28/12/2021 21:25

Congratulations 🎉

Shallysally · 28/12/2021 22:28
