since the dc came along and all my spare time has disappeared and i can't even pee alone, i can't stand the thought of spending any time with people i can't stomach. I used to be the one who always said we should put up with the stange, bigoted, offensive members of the family as they are family. My dh never bothers to speak to them. I am converted to his way. Life is too short !! what a relevation. Merry Christmas all !!

Life's too short yes. But duty calls sometimes regards family. Unless they are truly evil people... .. . .

I think it is quite an arrogant attitude to deem people not even worth talking to. I have a relation who either confronts everyone on what they say or ignores them completely. It actually makes the whole room tense up and nobody enjoys themselves. If people bother to come and see you and it is only once or twice a year why be unpleasant?
You can disagree in a respectful way without making people feel self concious.

No aposi YANBU - since when was there a law that says because it's xmas we have to go round some boring relatives house, sit on their sofa and watch their TV - or even worse, have them do the same in your house.

I expect this is the real reason why 3 million brits go away this time of year. Well, it's the reason I do anyway .

But if you do end up seeing them - be nice and set a good example.

i totally agree aposi, if they are offensive bigoted fuckwits then why bother with them, it would be hypocritical. Just make sure this is truely your opinion and not your DH dong your thinking for you.

YANBU - I just wish I was that brave! I am dreading this Christmas Day when I shall be biting my lip through tirades of anti immigration/ asian/ breast feeding/ any other bigoted bollocks they can dream up between now and then, rants..........

I shouldn't complain; it's only one day and the rest of the holiday we'll be with my family and friends and they are all lovely (of course )....
