To ask how you view the months of the year in your head?

When I think about the months of the year in my head I view it as a clock, like january js 1, June is 6 etc. I view it in my head like that, however, upon speaking to a couple of my friends about this tonight, they said they just think about it like a list. Wondering if anyone else thinks of it like I do?

Actually it's a bit skewed as well like January is 1pm, feb is 12, March 1 and so forth

Might make sense as my birthday is feb

Longdistance · 27/12/2021 00:35

The months are horizontal.
The years, however, are like clock with vertical bits.
1980 is at 12, by 4pm we are 1990, then go vertically down towards now. Before 1980, the years are circular like a clock. So, 1979 is at11, 1978 at 10 etc. 1970 is back at 12 weirdly.
The Second World War is from 1pm to 6pm for some strange reason. Could be as dm was born 1941.

NeverTalksToStrangers · 27/12/2021 00:36

Dec-Jan make up the bottom of the oval, which doesn't make sense because then there's 7 months on one side. But it's ok because it makes the run up to Christmas seem shorter Grin

Luredbyapomegranate · 27/12/2021 00:39

A circle - with sections for each month so looks like a circular path. Like a clock but it goes anti-clockwise, with January left of the top vertical and June at the opposite on the bottom. North cold, south warm I guess, but that still doesn’t explain why it goes anti clockwise - although I don’t think that’s anywhere near as deviant as seeing it as a list Grin the seasons are CLEARLY a circle.

zebrarobot · 27/12/2021 00:40

Its a rectangle shape for me

MolkosTeenageAngst · 27/12/2021 00:41

I don’t see anything I don’t think. Things like months, days of the weeks, numbers etc aren’t thought of visually for me. I suppose if I thought of April I might see the text of the word April in my head but I wouldn’t view it as part of a calendar or list, March & May wouldn’t feature in my head if I was thinking of April.

I do see real things visually, by which I mean if I was thinking of an animal, person or place I can see the image in my mind, but more abstract things don’t have consistent imagery.

zebrarobot · 27/12/2021 00:43

@bluesky45

I see it as a rectangle which I think is weird. Jan is bottom left corner Feb march are the bottom half of the left side April is the middle of the left side May is the top of the left side June July and August run along the top September is the top of the right side October is the middle of the right side November is the bottom right corner December runs along the bottom. The top and bottom edges are longer than the left and right. And obviously each month isn't the same size because the bottom is a long side and only has 2 months and the left side is short and has 4 months. So not sure why this is 🤷🏼‍♀️
Same here except the top left corner is december merging into january. Along to top right corner which is march turning into april. Down to bottom right which is june turning into july. Along to bottom left which is nov merging into dec. random but kind of rectangle-y

Woah weird my partner just said exactly the same as me without me telling him my answer, he also said 'but January starts at 1...' Shock

cherrytopcake · 27/12/2021 00:50

Mine is also a horizontal list but Jan starts on the right I my head with July in the middle and Dec at the end on the left. Ao the opposite of how we read books I guess. Anyone else ?

Me too!

I never gave it much thought until I saw this thread but now I'm wondering why I see it 'backwards.'

thewhatsit · 27/12/2021 00:56

@astoundedgoat

List, but a horizontal one, not vertical.
This
noblegreenk · 27/12/2021 01:01

I view it like a clock as well. But January is at 5 and December is at 4, which is a bit weird!

scarpa · 27/12/2021 01:12

Like a strip going away from me - current month close and big, end of the year further away and small. I see all time this way (weeks etc). Circular time viewers freak me out Grin

HippeePrincess · 27/12/2021 01:12

I can’t view the months, days of the week or the alphabet. Probably why I have to say the whole alphabet or months in my head to know what order they’re in.

Not in a straight line in front of me, BTW. Kind of diagonal to the right.
Pleaseletitbenaptime · 27/12/2021 01:45

A vertical list but going from December backwards to January

EMotion · 27/12/2021 01:47

I don’t picture anything in my mind for seasons, months, days, alphabet, numbers, etc. I don’t see any images ever in my mind - not of words, people or objects.

I haven’t ever remembered a dream, I can’t picture characters when I read a book, and when you do those meditations where you have to image being on a tropical beach with the sun shining warmly and the ocean lapping at your feet - I get freaked out because my mind is blank.

I can’t see my child’s face in my mind, but I could describe it. I have been able to give very detailed witness accounts of (eg) car accidents, which have been verified by video later - but I never “see” it in my mind.

CSIblonde · 27/12/2021 01:58

Like a clock is really odd to me ! But then we all visualize differently probably. I see them like blocks in a vertical line/list. Each block labelled with the month.

JollyHostess · 27/12/2021 01:59

@astoundedgoat

List, but a horizontal one, not vertical.
Yes this is what I picture too
Tomhardyshadabath · 27/12/2021 02:08

Circular, like OP but January is seven and I follow the year around the circle/clock. The idea of the year being linear blows my mind!

This is me. I always thought it was a figure of speech when people said things like 'Imagine yourself on a beach'. I have nothing in my head except darkness, which is odd because I have a good imagination - but I think I think in words, not pictures.
RantyAunty · 27/12/2021 02:21

Very interesting thread.

I see months as a calendar like this colours just black and blue

An entire week is like a word cloud and it has colors

Individual days of the week are on a rolodex and they just pop in one at a time. They have colours too.

To ask how you view the months of the year in your head?

Ellie56 · 27/12/2021 03:43

When I was a child I had a picture book with the months in. The months were arranged vertically, three to a page so January to March on one page, April to June on the next page, and so on. Each month had its own verse and illustration.

Sixty years later, I still see the months of the year as the pages of that book.

Archaea · 27/12/2021 05:55

Like a square - Aug bottom left, Dec bottom right then up to May top right, along to July then straight down to Aug

thaegumathteth · 27/12/2021 06:12

@WithRosesAroundTheDoor

I think that this has been discussed here before and most people saw a list or didn't have a visual. For me, it's a big wheel, viewed side on. The current month is closest and the previous and next are at the sides, they continue into darkness. I can spin the wheel to see the other months and it makes a clicking sound. It's a bit like the wheel of fortune Grin
@WithRosesAroundTheDoor exactly the same as me
