To ask how you view the months of the year in your head?

When I think about the months of the year in my head I view it as a clock, like january js 1, June is 6 etc. I view it in my head like that, however, upon speaking to a couple of my friends about this tonight, they said they just think about it like a list. Wondering if anyone else thinks of it like I do?

like a list with jan at top and Dec at bottom, same with the week

CheeseMmmm · 26/12/2021 23:04

Oh and roadrunner and others who have no visual component to thought-

I also have a terrible memory.
I have realised that it's not just me being rubbish, it's how my brain is! It had a huge impact looking back on school, and what subjects I liked.

I essentially ditched everything which had the most memorising.
Which is a lot!

After I found out I spoke to a few people I know.

My dad was baffled. But... You're really good at maths! How can you not know times table?
I just picture the page in book and I can read the answer.
This blew my mind!

Good friend flat out couldn't believe me.
She v good languages.
She can easily see the pages in book like a photo with translations, verb conjugation etc

Like a clock. January is 5pm and it works anti-clockwise until December at 6pm. November, December, January are blue. February and March are pale green. April and May are pale orange. June, July, August are bright orange. September, October are dark orange / brown. The current month is written larger than the others so it stands out.

Redact · 26/12/2021 23:05

Horizontal list, but as if I'm on my phone and I swipe one month to the left as it's finished. I also view Jan, Feb as black, March starts black in colour then gets grey towards the end of March, and it gets lighter as the months go on then October starts to get darker again but December is multicoloured fairy lights.

NMC2022 · 26/12/2021 23:06

@Iamanicepersonreally

I don't understand how people can view things in their head. I think in words, I can't see how else it's possible to think
That ^^

If I try to visualise a year, I can't
Maybe the word January, and then Feb in a list? But I don't need to be able to visualise it so I can't Confused if that makes sense?

LadyCatStark · 26/12/2021 23:07

I don’t really have a mind’s eye but I can get a vague sense of it being like a calendar.

NMC2022 · 26/12/2021 23:08

To add I speed read and have a leaning towards a photographic memory, my brain picks everything up
So if I tried really hard to visualise a year, it would be a copy of a calendar I've seen. On the other hand if we were driving and you said "oh what was that van?" I could tell you the company, reg plate and phone number Confused

ScoobyDoo80 · 26/12/2021 23:08

Like a measuring tape positioned in an oval shape:
July up to Dec are the upwards vertical part of the oval. January is on the bend (a turn to the right/clockwise), and the months to June go vertically downwards before scooping back up July-Dec.

WickedSM21 · 26/12/2021 23:09

Mine is a rectangle. Jan starts in bottom left. It goes up at July - August. Sept it starts to go across the top from right to left. Funny thing is though it only starts to go back down to Jan after Xmas day so it’s not in proportion at all. But that’s how it’s been since I was a kid and in my head the proportion or evenness of the rectangles sides doesn’t matter.

floatinginmyhomie · 26/12/2021 23:10

Horizontal line

Ihatesw · 26/12/2021 23:10

Institutionalised teacher here. Starts in September and ends in August.

I hate it.

Olliesocks · 26/12/2021 23:12

A list in front of me. January or current month closest to me. December furthest away. Then as the year progresses i move along and January etc are behind me.

Theres like a small step from December to January.

Pyracanth · 26/12/2021 23:13

I see the months as a list but they are all different colours, January is yellow, Feb is a muddy green etc etc .

honeyfox · 26/12/2021 23:18

I see it like a ribbon left to right starting at Christmas/January and stretching to December but not in a straight line, there's a kind of dog-leg bend at August.

I also see the decades as a sequence but with a lot more bends, big bend at 2000 and 2010. It's difficult to explain but I could draw it, it's a bit 3D.

I think I also have synaesthesia as I see letters, words and numbers in colour in my head.

OnwardsAndSideways1 · 26/12/2021 23:18

Don't see them at all, hear the words spoken aloud in my head. Nothing visual. I do visualise things a lot, have dreams, play out scenes in my head but I don't have a system for the months of the year at all!

ToooOldForThis · 26/12/2021 23:18

@Ihatesw I think that's why I see it the way I do (teacher too )...altho I go L-R Jan-Dec , August to June are much more pronounced than the the summer months!

Hibye23289 · 26/12/2021 23:18

In a horizontal time line, which I think was due to it being laid out at school like this on a wall. Isn't it so bizarre how our minds see things so differently??!! And the fact that I have never thought about this, obviously I know prople have different thoughts but how interesting would it be to swap minds and just see how people see and think about things!

Another thing I thought of the other day is do people see things really differently depending on how close or far apart their eyes are?? Shock

MollyQueenOfSocks · 26/12/2021 23:18

Teardrop shaped here, running clockwise!

Grotbags2020 · 26/12/2021 23:18

Horseshoe with summer months at the peak

It’s not that I hate winter I just miss the sun. I’m not a sun worshipper and don’t sit in the sun. I just like seeing it sunny be it hot or cold, grey days make me sad ( good god that sounds high maintenance but I swear I’m not)

bluesky45 · 26/12/2021 23:18

I see it as a rectangle which I think is weird.
Jan is bottom left corner
Feb march are the bottom half of the left side
April is the middle of the left side
May is the top of the left side
June July and August run along the top
September is the top of the right side
October is the middle of the right side
November is the bottom right corner
December runs along the bottom.
The top and bottom edges are longer than the left and right. And obviously each month isn't the same size because the bottom is a long side and only has 2 months and the left side is short and has 4 months. So not sure why this is 🤷🏼‍♀️

MollyQueenOfSocks · 26/12/2021 23:19

It's also 3D rather than 2D - Hard to explain!

beautifullymad · 26/12/2021 23:22

@astoundedgoat

List, but a horizontal one, not vertical.
I'm the same.
Scrabblecrabapple · 26/12/2021 23:23

Blocks of cubes with the weekends double the height. I see about 3 weeks pretty clearly but no more than 6 weeks.

If I think specifically about months it’s blocks but they are generally coloured or decorated for the month. Like July has a beach theme.

2319inprogress · 26/12/2021 23:23

I have no minds eye at all but the months of the year run from January where my fingers would point to left arm outstretched straight ahead just above my shoulder to December where my finger points if right arm held down straight but out a bit. I can't see them but I can feel them & turn to/feel August (or whatever) when it is mentioned Confused

Scrabblecrabapple · 26/12/2021 23:24

Also all blocks are horizontal as well
