To think the Christmas Number One has gone tacky and downhill?

I just saw that LadBaby has had its 4th Christmas number one single. Based on what? Tik tok and streaming views on YouTube? I haven’t heard the song and not going to bother but does anyone else think music these days is just low effort, cheap and bland? What about real Christmas number ones, like Spice Girls 2 Become 1 for example.

Also saw that they had a rivalry to get to number one with a band called “The Kunts”. Really? I have no problem with the word cunt but I also don’t think this fits in with the whole Christmas theme. Can you imagine a child saying “who reached number one, mummy?” And she replies “it was The Kunts darling”??

Just had a look at the comments about Lad Baby on Twitter and they are being utterly lambasted on there. And yes they ARE blocking anyone who challenges them!

Just put Lad Baby into the twitter search bar, and most of the comments are about how Lad Baby are just using the shitty Christmas No 1 thing to advance their career, how very little goes to the charity, and how Lad Baby has made £1.2 million from the 4 singles so far. MUCH more than what The Trussell Trust has received. Someone needs to investigate them.

I say someone needs to investigate them, because they are running with the 'we are doing this for charideeeee' narrative all the time. When it looks a lot more like they are lining their own pockets nicely, and are raising their public persona, and gaining fame.

It speaks volumes that they block anyone (on social media) who challenges them.

Judging by many comments on twitter, it seems many MANY people are on to them, and seeing them for what they are.

Not like the Xmas number one is a bastion of quality. Bob the Builder? Mr Blobby? Benny Hill?

The last time I cared was for RATM. Simply because it was fun to stop Cowell.

As for Ladbaby, if they're saying profits it's massively different to all sales. Sure the Trust are happy with any extra money. But it's easy for the armchair brigade to say other people should give more.

mollypuss1 · 28/12/2021 00:28

Have Ladbaby actually said they are getting nothing because I can’t find that stated anywhere. All profits could easily be after their ‘substantial’ fee. I work in the music industry and very few artists work for free, even if something is in aid of charity the artist usually still gets paid before the charity see a penny.

I'm just pleased that over the past 4 years I've managed to avoid hearing any song about sausage rolls. I had no idea they'd had 4 Christmas #1s.

I'm sure they are lining their own pockets too. Of course they are. They've always annoyed me but so many people seem to love them. 🤷

I'm glad people are switching on to their bullshit.

@LivingOnTheVeg

I’ve never even heard of LadBaby before this year, so I don’t know how I’ve missed the last three years! I agree, it seems cheap and tacky. Don’t think they’re particularly nice people either from what I’ve seen people say on Twitter this week.
Yet they raise thousands for the Trussel Trust to end food poverty. So it's a good thing. Elton John and Ed Sheeran joined them this year !! Stop being so snobby.

They appear to be profiteering quite a bit on the back of their "charity singles"

I think LadBaby was the snobby one when he said that "only a certain type of person" would buy The Kunts' song.

Let's be honest, LadBaby, Elton John and Ed Sheeran could all easily afford to donate double of what the TT received from profits of the song if they wanted to. And donating to food banks doesn't help to end poverty, it just makes the responsibility of feeding the poor ours rather than the Government's.

If I'd known about these songs, and cared to download music, I would have chosen Boris Johnson Is A Cunt.

@MrsArchchancellorRidcully I can only speak for myself but I don’t think I’m being ‘snobby’, I’m irritated that they/their fans are trying to turn a very shitty song into a virtuous act. Just own it for what it is!

Money for the Trussell Trust can only be a good thing, although the fact there is such a demand for them raises multiple political questions. My issue is them dining out on charitable acts as a lynchpin for the success of their (again, incredibly shit) Xmas song when if you look closely they’re doing the bare minimum they possibly could do to be able to class it as a charitable act. I have literally no issue with their walkers deal because it was transparent about how much they were getting and how much was going to the Trussell Trust.

I don’t buy a lottery ticket and consider it a virtuous act because a percentage is taken for charitable funds. It’s a self serving act with the intention of gaining a personal benefit far outweighing anything a charity will see. That’s absolutely fine, and any money spent on causes that otherwise wouldn’t have received anything is great, but it’s a happy byproduct.

When people use charity raising as part of their profile and marketing to obtain other peoples money they should expect to be completely transparent and if not expect scrutiny. I don’t know why anyone would argue otherwise tbh.

I completely agree.

It's also interesting how fame seems to allow you to get away with what would be roundly condemned if done at a lower level.

If a 9yo child promoted their 'sponsored bike ride in aid of X charity' in the neighbourhood, earned £100 from it, kept £80 and duly passed £20 on to the promoted charity, their family would be ostracised and reported to the police for theft.

If a celebrity releases something of very dubious quality 'in support of X charity' - that surely virtually nobody would remotely consider buying without the incentive of helping a good cause - and then 20% is passed on to the charity, people will tell dissenters to stop complaining and say how wonderful it is that the charity got something from it.

Many individuals, rich and poor, give generously to charity without making a song and dance about it. To be honest, I don't actually consider it giving to/supporting charity at all when you do it with a grand, egotistical, highly-public 'look how wonderful I am' attitude - it's nothing more than buying yourself good PR for your own continued personal benefit.
@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll

they've been instantly blocking those who do ask for further info.

OMG really? Shock That's proper shady, and further reinforces my concerns about where the money is going. As I say, 80% of the money is vanishing into the ether! Where is it? All I am seeing here is LADBABY making a tidy bit of money here. 100s of 1000s, if you include the 3 other pieces of shit they spewed out over 2018, 2019, and 2020.

Is it twitter where they are blocking people?
It was me who said there were a lot of tweets from users saying they had been blocked by Ladbaby and his wife's accounts when they were asked about what percentage went where.

There has been a backlash against them, as obviously when certain figures have been released and with his unwise comments regards the Kunts people have been quick to voice opinions he may not have liked.
