in not paying for my bottle of apple juice in tesco this morning

i was running late this morning and could not find ds's juice bottle for lunch, i made a mad dash to tesco (parked in disabled space and left both ds's in car while i ran in ) picked up a bottle of apple juice 49p and went to the self serve till.

when i ran the bottle through i realised i only had 20p in my purse so i went to use my swich card which it would no accept??

i had a quick look around, no one was looking so i picked up the bottle and ran out to the car, the self serve till was showing some "alternative payment" message.

i spend £££ in this tesco, but what i did was still stealing i suppose. had i not taken the bottle though ds would of had no juice in his lunch, we arrived 5 mins late to school as it was without having to run home for another 29p to pay for juice.

should i go back and pay now or try and be more organised in future???

Haven't read whole thread, just OP, but suggest, as you obviously feel bad about it, that you go to customer services next time you are in Tesco and pay for the juice and apologise. I think the chances of their taking you away in chains are slim to none.

Alternatively, if you ever shop at Tesco online, do a big shop and offer to add 49p to the bill which will mean you can do it without having to face a human being.

You should've gone to a different till. It was your own fault you were late, that doesn't entitle you to steal.

Well I am more shocked the OP left a young child unattended in the car .

for less than a minute, locked in a car and i could see the car through the shop door. hence the reason i used the self serve till.

why are you at that.

I really hope this is a wind up. But if it isn't the op should go back and apologise and jolly well pay up! If the switch thing didn't work you should have availed yourself of an assistant and paid up - I hardly think your child would fail Oxbridge entrance as the result of being a few minutes late days before the end of term! If all else fails I would advocate bursting into tears - soon have people falling over themselves to help then! The parking thing is really bad too by the way!

ok so you:

  1. Parked in a space for disabled people

  1. Left your kids unattended in a car

  1. Gave your kids apple juice in preferance to water

  1. Did not pay for said apple juice

and

  1. Called someone "common" for swearing - this is MUMSNET, fgs)

Of COURSE its a wind up, duh. But a good one.

no not a wind up, and what would the problem be with giving ds juice instead of water, he does not drink water during the day. he only takes a glass of water to bed at night. is there some rule about children not being allowed to drink juice that i have missed.

You know there is no rule but surely common sense would have said to you that it be better to be on time to school, not going to tesco at all and making him drink water at school at lunch time - one day would not have hurt.

I can not believe school do not allow him access to water either - there are new rules and guidelines for schools to adhere to about water being freely available all day.

I am not exactly the most organised person but why didn't you ask the staff, of which you say you know well (and if you are like me - you are on first name terms with them!) to drop the money in later on? I am sure if they know you so well, they would have been ok with it.

i did not say the school dont allow access to water, the children ask for water then are given it, my ds is quiet and does not like putting his hand up to ask so he always seemed to get left out, this along with the fact they always forgot to give him his milk (another story) meant he was going all day without a drink.

i do find it funny that so many people find this a wind up, it was 2 mins out of my day that i feel a bit quilty about and yet so many people on here cant grasp the fact that it is real.

can my life really be so exciting

Just think of how many times you could have made it all the way to tesco and paid for the juice while you have been on here. Were you late because you were on here this morning, no boundaries these days

The parking in the disabled bay was wrong.
The stealing was wrong.

But in the scheme of things it's not that big a deal. I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

Hope you weren't using EVIL chemicals to defrost your car, you are actually the root of all that is wrong with the world today. I hope you can sleep tonight, if not you could always try horlicks.
