in not paying for my bottle of apple juice in tesco this morning

i was running late this morning and could not find ds's juice bottle for lunch, i made a mad dash to tesco (parked in disabled space and left both ds's in car while i ran in ) picked up a bottle of apple juice 49p and went to the self serve till.

when i ran the bottle through i realised i only had 20p in my purse so i went to use my swich card which it would no accept??

i had a quick look around, no one was looking so i picked up the bottle and ran out to the car, the self serve till was showing some "alternative payment" message.

i spend £££ in this tesco, but what i did was still stealing i suppose. had i not taken the bottle though ds would of had no juice in his lunch, we arrived 5 mins late to school as it was without having to run home for another 29p to pay for juice.

should i go back and pay now or try and be more organised in future???

callaird i remeber seeing this in a car park a few years ago, it was not a big supermarket car park though just a small one in town, i dont remeber seeing it lately though so perhaps rules have changed about it all.

Tesco and sainsbury have a policy to let parents with YOUNG children use the disabled spaces and also visa versa. Although not to leave their child in the car whilst shopping of course. And I totally disagree with taking the apple juice because you were late. So be more organised. Many other people manage it or take the consquences!

the missing logic about the spaces is that if everyone thought oh they are all empty and no one needs them then they would be full

like if everyone justb took their shopping without paying

tho of course we do pay out a lot of money for shop lifting

"..pagwatch how many times have you and your son went to tesco at 8-40 on a weekday morning and not been able to get a space????

never i would think."

Not really the point I don't went my son to tescos unless DH is there too as DS2 would not cope

But if there are spaces available it is because the majority of people understand that some people need access and leave those spaces free. Most people.

This thread has got really pitchforky

the OP may not realise how much mumsnetters hate people who park in disabled spaces as she may be new

On here we are a right nice, right on lentil weavery, fair trade bunch of mostly non-Nestle buyers

Out there most people can be, sometimes pretty arseholey - I went to coffee (in Starbucks not the Ivy) yesterday with a guy I used to work with and his new wife (both in their 50's) - they spent the whole time tutting at a little boy who happened to be talking

Tossers - can't wait til I give birth and ask them to babysit

I wondered why there was a shop assistant lurking near the self-service tills tonight - someone from Tescos must have read this thread.

Twas just as well since they needed to verify to the till that I was old enough to buy a cheese board complete with cheese knife. Perhaps I should have just nicked it instead - it was only £10. 20 cartons of applejuice . They'd never notice!

Hatrick puts it very well "As long as you and yours got what you wanted applejuice then that is all that counts, rules are for fools and laws are for losers".

That's what maddens me about AJ's attitude over this. Gawd knows none of us are perfect but thank God most of us don't take a similarly arrogant attitude towards getting what we want and making sure our day runs smoothly when we've screwed up somehow. Most normal, considerate people would take the consequences of their "running late" on the chin rather than knowingly nick stuff (even if it was "only" 49p and even if it was "only" from the satanic Tesco with whom they spend millions a year) and be crass enough to park in a disabled space.

Maybe I'm missing something here .... it sure as hell would be far more convenient if I could simply run in and out of shops and pinch goods under 49p (ooh - drink, paper, stamp, chocolate, crisps, whatever) each time I leave my purse at home / the cashpoint isn't working / I don't have enough money / I don't have the right change / don't want to queue. Yeah sure .... it's "only" 49p, it wouldn't make any difference at all would it if we all did it ......
