Help! I've got Covid and I'm stuck in a hotel

medusawashere · 22/12/2021 11:26

I travelled to Plymouth for Christmas and did all the right stuff. I'm double jabbed, booster booked for early Jan and have been doing lateral flow tests every day to stay safe and protect others.

This morning, I woke up coughing, sneezing and with chest pains and my LF is positive.

I'm stuck in a hotel with no way of getting home! I live in Bournemouth and my fiance (who was going to meet me Christmas Eve) has also tested positive.

Does anyone have any bright ideas or am I stuck in a hotel room for ten days? I'm devastated. I just want to go home :(

@wombat1a
maybe it is you who needs your head examining?Hmm

Gillygolightly · 24/12/2021 09:35

Why is he refusing, can he come after work? If he is well enough to work fh presumably he can drive. If he is being an asshole why would you want to go with him. Inform the hotel and don't take public transport jesus you could cause a spread that could kill people.

Ineke · 24/12/2021 09:48

It’s all been said on here, there is only one right solution, stay put, inform hotel, it’s now reduced to 7 days if two negative test on day 6 and 7. Make the most of peace and quiet, rest, and hope that you don’t deteriorate. What you cannot do is get on a train or ask you partner to collect you. He could rapidly get worse on the journey. Tough, but it’s been tough for all of us, there is no wriggle room here, no driving to test eyesight, no ‘Parties’ that are not parties. Just plain isolating. Get some reading material in, catch up on emails, take it easy. Wishing you well.

Stressedmummyof4 · 24/12/2021 09:55

@Cheshirewife

Responses suggesting OP, who is covid positive, gets on a train are utterly reprehensible.

Mask or no mask, that would expose other passengers to significant covid risk. Who knows whether those passengers are old or immunocompromised. Best case is you think their Christmas. In the worst case, you could, very literally, kill people.

Anyone who’d even consider this is beneath contempt.

This with bells on!
plantastic · 24/12/2021 10:00

Can you get a one way car hire?

ilovesooty · 24/12/2021 10:26

It's been clearly established that she can't drive.
JuergenSchwarzwald · 24/12/2021 11:00

@MrsMcNtobe

Assuming OP isn’t coming back with an update
I know it's very disappointing after all the frothing on here Grin
starlight13 · 24/12/2021 11:40

I think your fiance should collect you when he finishes work. I just don't understand why he wouldn't.

JinglingHellsBells · 24/12/2021 13:36

What's a bit confusing is she says she travelled to Plymouth 'for Christmas' (and is staying in a hotel.)

I don't understand that really, as it's not Christmas till tomorrow. So presumably, she'd still be in the hotel anyway, Covid or not.

There's a lot missing from her post, like who was she planning to be with over Christmas, Her fiance is in Bournmouth.

So why did she go to Plymouth? To see her parents ? or other family?

OP you've done a runner :) but if you are reading, the obvious answer is you have to stay put for 7 days after the positive result, then you can go home (if your lat flow test is negative then.)

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/12/2021 14:14

So @medusawashere are you going to come back and tell us what you did

Or scared mn will shout at you if you got the train back

ChequerBoard · 24/12/2021 14:27

This is all in the thread...

OP travelled to Plymouth as her sister is giving birth in a hospital there. Fiancé supposed to travel to meet her at the hotel on Christmas Eve then onward to Totnes for family Christmas.

diddl · 24/12/2021 14:42

Well it's Christmas Eve.

Hopefully Op's fiance will be picking her up today if they haven't already.

PardonBeeOne · 24/12/2021 15:13

@alienbaby

How fucking selfish are people? Of course you cant get on a train
I am also reading this advice thinking, is this for real?? Can one really get on a train/ public transport knowing they are positive and believe masking up is adequate to keep others safe? WtAf! Hmm
hibbledibble · 24/12/2021 21:48

Judging by this thread, a significant portion of society thinks it's acceptable to get on public transport while covid positive and symptomatic, which is really worrying. No wonder our infection rate is so high.

Agreed. Sadly it doesn't surprise me. Posts on here over the last year have simply confirmed that there are an awful lot of people feel no responsibility towards anyone but themselves and their immediate family.
DogsandCatsB4u · 24/12/2021 22:30

Hope your partner came to get you

user97533676 · 25/12/2021 06:11

@Idontgiveaf324

I think if you get the train you run the risk of there being people with Covid on it though? So I wouldn’t expect a vulnerable person to be on the train really 🤷‍♀️ I just think that if it was me, nothing could stand in the way of me getting home for Christmas.
I'm sorry what?

I'm CEV as is DC. We live in London and frequently have to take public transport (including trains) to travel to different Healthcare appointments and admissions.

You're saying we should expect to be sharing a train with a covid positive person?

Your comments are very disturbing and you behave in a dangerous manner.

Cavementality · 26/12/2021 09:13

Please stop being a baby!
There is a pandemic and the safest thing for you to do is stay in your hotel. If you leave, you are endangering others . Please do the right thing. Looking at some of the above comments, it's no wonder the virus is spreading rapidly!

Ginger1982 · 26/12/2021 16:13

So what did you do OP?

medusawashere · 30/12/2021 03:11

Hey everyone! Sorry for the delay in updating! Fiance came to get me and we bombed it home without stopping.

I've been really unwell over Christmas and just finding the physical/mental strength to come back and update. I think I made it SUPER clear that I'd never ever get the train back. If you met me IRL, you'd know that I've been a stringent follower of rules regarding Covid and I tried to convey that in my posts. Sorry if that wasn't entirely clear. I was feeling a bit too fragile and brain foggy to come back and read some of these responses before today!

Tested negative for the first time yesterday, hoping for another negative test today.

I've just got to get my voice back now...

medusawashere · 30/12/2021 03:14

Fiance ended up feeling ropey on day one but much much better after that. I've had much worse symptoms and he's been cooking, cleaning, cuddling and generally being the lovebug I'm marrying him for.

Isolating over Christmas sucks but it's the right thing to do until we're both testing negative.

Ohdofuckofdear · 30/12/2021 03:15

I did keep checking back, I'm so relieved that your OH came to get you.

I hope you start feeling a lot better soon.Flowers

Anystarinthesky · 30/12/2021 03:20

So glad you got home. Get well soon. Flowers

RantyAunty · 30/12/2021 05:14

So glad to hear he came to get you and you are home and on the mend. Flowers

JustLikeaJingleBell · 30/12/2021 14:44

You can't test for 3 months after having covid as the readings will all be a false negative / but nevertheless a negative result indicates you're better but officially is not acceptable
