Help! I've got Covid and I'm stuck in a hotel

I travelled to Plymouth for Christmas and did all the right stuff. I'm double jabbed, booster booked for early Jan and have been doing lateral flow tests every day to stay safe and protect others.

This morning, I woke up coughing, sneezing and with chest pains and my LF is positive.

I'm stuck in a hotel with no way of getting home! I live in Bournemouth and my fiance (who was going to meet me Christmas Eve) has also tested positive.

Does anyone have any bright ideas or am I stuck in a hotel room for ten days? I'm devastated. I just want to go home :(

@alienbaby depending on how bad he feels that may not be very safe. My son has COVID atm and he could barely keep his eyes open yesterday.

GertrudeBElion · 22/12/2021 11:38

The OP is poorly, coughing and sneezing. She can't get on a busy train a few days before Xmas, that would be really off.

@medusawashere get him to come and pick you up, or someone else who loves you. Hope you feel better soon

PurpleDaisies · 22/12/2021 11:38

If he’s well enough to work then he’s well enough to drive.

That doesn’t necessarily follow.Confused

Comedycook · 22/12/2021 11:39

Do not get on public transport!

Muchtoomuchtodo · 22/12/2021 11:40

Your DF needs to come and get you. If they won’t do you have any other family members or good friends who would? I’m sure the hotel will facilitate a safe exit route for you!
I’d do this for my friends or family even thought I’ve not had it (triple jabbed, masked and windows open).
Please, please don’t use public transport.

SleepingStandingUp · 22/12/2021 11:40

@alienbaby

How fucking selfish are people? Of course you cant get on a train
I agree in principle but she may not be able to stay in the hotel for 10 days so do you suggest she walks home or lives on the streets for a week??
MrsColon · 22/12/2021 11:40

Oh no, I'm so sorry OP! That sounds miserable Sad

I don't think anyone would blame you for travelling home as long as you drive yourself in your own car - is that possible? Obviously it's not ok to take public transport.

Skyeheather · 22/12/2021 11:41

@medusawashere

Fiance is unwell and has to work from home. He is refusing to drive here
Your Fiancé can't help you out in an emergency? How selfish.
Cheshirewife · 22/12/2021 11:41

Responses suggesting OP, who is covid positive, gets on a train are utterly reprehensible.

Mask or no mask, that would expose other passengers to significant covid risk. Who knows whether those passengers are old or immunocompromised. Best case is you think their Christmas. In the worst case, you could, very literally, kill people.

Anyone who’d even consider this is beneath contempt.

SleepingStandingUp · 22/12/2021 11:41

@medusawashere what was the original plan? Who are you visiting?

Huy456 · 22/12/2021 11:43

Is there anyone on here in Plymouth who has recently had covid and drives a convertible?

ChurchlightJane · 22/12/2021 11:44

There are some fucking disgraceful suggestions on this thread re getting on the train. Hope you do get home safely and responsibly OP.

Youarenothere · 22/12/2021 11:44

Fiancé drives to you, you drive back. If you both feel rubbish split the driving, 3 hours should just about be doable. Good luck

Vapeyvapevape · 22/12/2021 11:44

I’d hope that the fiancé is bed ridden if he’s refusing to drive! Refusing is a bit different to saying that he feels too unwell to drive. How long would his journey be ?
Like a pp said is there anyone that loves you that could collect you.

Lollypop701 · 22/12/2021 11:46

Looks like a 6 hour round trip. As you both have it your fiancé could travel down stay over then go back next day?

alienbaby · 22/12/2021 11:46

Go on Plymouth and Bournemouth FB groups and copy and paste your post. Offer £200 to someone who can drive you home with windows open double masked.

Guaranteed there will be a student who will have no problem doing this for you.

Incredible amount of stupidity on this thread. Idiots really are out in force today.

Fiancé should not be driving if he is unwell. For the safety of other road users, wait until he feels okay to drive.

alienbaby · 22/12/2021 11:47

Oh and then dump your fiance

NoBetterthanSheShouldBe · 22/12/2021 11:48

There is a hotel in Plymouth which is acting as a rehab for bed-blockers. (Dont know which, possibly FI?) Perhaps they could let you have a room, a normal hotel will evict you.

Who were you planning to spend Xmas with here?

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 22/12/2021 11:48

He sounds nice.

How long were you due to stay? Are you up the hoe end or the barbican?

EmiliaAirheart · 22/12/2021 11:48

Do you drive? A friend or family member might be able loan you a car, or drop off a rental, to drive yourself back in.

LIZS · 22/12/2021 11:48

Who were you visiting, can they help? Fiance can't or rather won't help?

ZealAndArdour · 22/12/2021 11:50

Why on Earth would you marry this person? 😂😂

That's a great idea, ask a covid positive person to stay in a hotel with vulnerable people waiting for care packages....
RidingMyBike · 22/12/2021 11:52

Have you told the hotel - I stayed in one recently and anyone testing positive or starting symptoms was asked to notify hotel staff. Presumably they have procedures in place to keep their staff safe and also ensure you get meals etc to your room.
