Posting for a friend he neighbor has Covid and so does she. She’s brought in all the food for a Christmas dinner but can’t share it with family now I suggested she share it with her neighbor. They can aces each other houses through there shared drive ways so wouldn’t be close to anyone else. She was hesitant as it’s not in the rules

@MMMarmite

No idea what would happen if one has Delta and the other has Omicron, do they risk getting both at once? That would my only worry

@LegoPandemic

It’s fine as long as there is cheese and wine
and they're both wearing suits
Madcats · 22/12/2021 18:17

When did they both get ill? To know that they both have Omicron wouldn't they have had to have done a PCR more than a day or two ago?

Do they know about the new isolation rules:

If you can find them some LFTs they might be okay by Christmas?

Allmadeoflego · 22/12/2021 18:21

Even if they have different variants there is no way it’s statistically possible that they will be the first two people to share the same space with it.

FictionalCharacter · 22/12/2021 18:27

@Bubblty

It would increase their viral loads. Not a good idea.
This isn’t correct.
FictionalCharacter · 22/12/2021 18:29
@Oliveoil26 how do they know that? They are only sequencing a certain number of tests for omicron, I’d be surprised if the two neighbours were randomly told that - be interesting to know.
You can be pretty sure a pos PCR is Omicron by the result. In the PCR protocols used in the UK you can see the S gene dropout that characterises Omicron. Sequencing is to confirm.

FictionalCharacter · 22/12/2021 18:31

@JackieWeaverHandforthCouncil

My concern is if they have different strains and merge together to create a new one. Where do they live so we can name it first?
Not how it works!

Hi @Oliveoil26 NRTFT

I’ve read that you can catch more than 1 variant at the same time … delta + omicron; and it can make you very poorly. Unless they’ve had the tests that identify they have got the same variant I wouldn’t. Rubbish I know.

Even if this is the case, I think we can be pretty sure this house wouldn't the the only place in the world that Delta and Omicron have crossed paths! Christmas with neighbour sounds like a great idea
Insanelysilver · 22/12/2021 18:44

luckily OP’s friend and neighbour both have omicron so wouidnt be giving each other a different strain.
However I was wondering if you Couid get covid more severely if you’re getting a higher viral load???

gingergiraffe · 22/12/2021 18:47

You do not get told after a PCR which variant you have. Check this out on all the information sites.

Angrywife · 22/12/2021 18:50

Tell her to put a "meeting in progress" sign on the door, all will be well 😁

Mammma91 · 22/12/2021 18:53

I would. No point being miserable. Absolutely must be alcohol though, like PP said, if theres a possibility of a hook up, can we have updates 😂😂😂

TreborBore · 22/12/2021 19:01

It will be fine if they meet. No kissing with tongues though 😂😂😂

Ilovesandwiches · 22/12/2021 19:10

I vote do it!

Jaxxy · 22/12/2021 19:18

If they have Omicron, they will probably be well by Xmas day! They should definitely enjoy it together.

caringcarer · 22/12/2021 19:23

Great idea.

LemonLymanDotCom · 22/12/2021 19:27

My neighbour and I are doing the same. But not too concerned about making a mutant hybrid variant as I believe we both have the same one. You see I think I caught it from her. We’d both been testing negative all week when she invited me round for dinner. Alas the next morning she tested positive & I followed suit 4 days later. I wfh and am unlikely to have caught it anywhere else & since we’ve more than likely got the same (omicron) variant as I caught it from her, we’re spending Christmas Day together. It’s bad enough isolating when you live alone, but as we’re both infected we may as try to muster some celebrations from our respective ruined Christmas plans.

LemonLymanDotCom · 22/12/2021 19:28

We also have both cheese & wine…. Can’t wait

Alarmset · 22/12/2021 19:40

No they can't, but of course they should. I bet they have the best day. Smile

BooneyBeautiful · 22/12/2021 20:00

@whateveryousay

How do they know they both have Omicron?? Myself, DH and DS currently have covid, but no idea which strain?!
I believe if they have detected it's Omicron, they tell the person.
TheRealHousewife · 22/12/2021 20:04

Yes you can catch 2 variants at the same time

fluffiny31 · 22/12/2021 20:17

Do it.
