to go to a yoga class when my daughter has covid

I have no symptoms. I have numerous negative lateral flow tests.

I'm interested in what other people are doing. (Btw I did a virtual class today and didn't go, but I really missed it).

@Itsnotdeep

I suppose I kind of think that a CEV person won't be in the yoga class. They're more likely to be in the supermarket.
That's a bit silly. After all, yoga is recommended to many people with conditions which mean they are CEV.
Itsnotdeep · 21/12/2021 14:36

Yes I know. But if, like everyone, a CEV person is weighing up the risks and benefits of going to a yoga class (or anywhere) right now, they are more likely to think it higher risk than I am.

I'm a single parent, and solely responsible for my kids. I don't feel that I want to take much risk on getting covid, so have been limiting my outings and have been very careful. But, the benefits for yoga for me outweigh the risks.

Honestly, I'd leave it OP.
We were in a similar position -DD tested neg at university, came home, had her booster and immediately developed a temperature, upset stomach.
She'd had covid last year with very different symptoms so we assumed it was a reaction to the booster. I helped her as she was sick and drove her to a PCR. She was positive.
I am triple vaxxed ( moderna booster in November) and not vulnerable. Have rotten gastric flu type symptoms and waiting for results of postal PCR. Can't really get beyond ensuite anyway.
Family will Christmas downstairs without me as I can't face GCSE and A level DDs getting this.
I know the rules are there to serve Boris and nobody else atm but try and find something else to support your mental health for a few days.

Itsnotdeep · 21/12/2021 14:38

I'm not going! I've done some yoga and another workout at home today.

ChequerBoard · 21/12/2021 14:42

We are in a similar position.

DS14 is at home with confirmed Covid (LFt positive last Wednesday and PCR positive last Thursday).

We are all doing daily LFTs (me, DH and DD19) which have all been negative so far. DH is CV so DS is keeping himself in his room as much as possible, we are all hand washing and using anti-bac on doorknobs etc.

We all triple vaxxed and so legally can come and go as we please.

But we aren't, it just not fair to potentially infect others, especially just a few days before Xmas

That would be the risks to others. Hmm
JellyOnAPlatewithicecream · 22/12/2021 06:15

Driving is a huge risk to others (even when following all the safety rules!), but I don't hear many people saying they aren't going to drive this week as it's not fair to risk people's lives just before Christmas..

JellyOnAPlatewithicecream · 22/12/2021 06:21

Or at anytime of the year for that matter!

ChequerBoard · 22/12/2021 06:23

It's not the risk to lives I am referring to - its pretty obvious that infecting someone who then tests positive in a few days and has to isolate over Xmas and/or New Year is going to ruin the holidays for most people.

That's what's now happened to me. DS tested positive last Weds, now I've just tested positive on an LFT this evening. Still trying to prevent CV DH from catching it from either of us.

Merry fucking Covid Xmas!

Justheretoaskaquestion91 · 22/12/2021 06:30

My son has Covid and we are doing LFTs daily and are allowed out as long as these are negative as we are triple vaccinated

What does you being triple vaccinated have to do the with the price of fish?! It won’t stop you spreading it @CovoidOfAllHumanity - I mean you’re legally allowed to go out so by all means do, but don’t peddle bizarre implications as if being triple jabbed helps anyone not get the virus if you have it.

JellyOnAPlatewithicecream · 22/12/2021 06:33

Well it kind of is the risk you're talking about as you're worried about passing it to your CV vunerable daughter, and I'm assuming the reason you're worried about this is because it may cause her harm / risk her life, in the same way driving risks causing harm and death.

Why else would people isolate once they have a positive test, if it wasn't to prevent harm to others? If I test positive I will still be visiting my family at Christmas, we have all been triple jabbed and aren't bothered if we catch it (well no more bothered than catching a nasty cold). Yes we risk then passing it on to someone unvaccinated / vunerable and they might die, but people every day get in the cars and drive even though that's a massive risk to others.

Itsnotdeep · 22/12/2021 06:33

@ChequerBoard I think maybe it's ridiculous that we have to isolate for something that's so mild and that many people have even without knowing. This strain is just like having a cold and the whole country is shut down with huge consequences for the economy and people on lower incomes.

I haven't gone anywhere, but that's only because it's Christmas week.

OP posts:
JellyOnAPlatewithicecream · 22/12/2021 06:36

@Justheretoaskaquestion91 because being tripled jabbed means they are less likely to catch it from their son

JellyOnAPlatewithicecream · 22/12/2021 06:40

@itsnotdeep exactly, I don't know why anyone would not visit family over Christmas if they've tested positive (assuming they've all been triple jabbed), unless one of them was particularly vunerable (or unvaccinated). Like you say it's a mild illness now (if you've been vaccinated).

AstroBunny · 22/12/2021 06:42

@R0tational

Despite answers here, I am going tomorrow to the gym early morning (as long as my LTF is clear and I have no symptoms). Those are the rules and I am going crazy at home with a sick child. The LTFs are 80% accurate if not more.
Go for a bloody walk outside then! So staggeringly selfish of you right before Christmas
JellyOnAPlatewithicecream · 22/12/2021 06:43

And that would apply before / after covid anyway, if one of your family is CV and you're worried about them catching covid I assume you would also not visit if you had a cold

ChequerBoard · 22/12/2021 06:43

Except it's not always for everyone -and many many people have underlying conditions that make them vulnerable.

Don’t be daft
Frazzled2207 · 22/12/2021 06:46

assuming lft is clear you are vv unlikely to pass it on, even if you have it.
I didn’t get it when ds got it recently
I’d go

Duopuss81 · 22/12/2021 06:46

Although officially you can, I think for this week it’s better to miss your yoga class.
A colleague in the same situation came to our work do, she tested positive herself the next day and so now have two people sat at her table -Xmas ruined!

KarmaStar · 22/12/2021 06:50

Op,why bother asking?
You justify going in every single answer you give.
You should not go.
And throwing in the MH card for sympathy is quite nasty.
Stop being so entitled and selfish.

Itsnotdeep · 22/12/2021 06:53

Why thank you KarmaStar. If you'd read the thread you'll see that I haven't gone to yoga this week. And please do not presume to know anything about my mental health or my life.

I didn't go to my yoga class when dd had covid even tho I had a neg pcr. Glad I didn't as I was positive 4 days later.... just sayin'

JellyOnAPlatewithicecream · 22/12/2021 06:55

@ChequerBoard
'Except it's not always for everyone -and many many people have underlying conditions that make them vulnerable.'

So were all those people not visiting friends and family at Christmas before COVID if they had a cold?

If people don't want to risk causing harm to others before Christmas, there are lots of other thinga they should also be doing including driving.

I don't understand why the harm to people's mental health (considering suicide is the biggest killer in young people now, and rates are especially high at Christmas time) is not being taking into account in the run up before Christmas. Having no social contact / not being able to do the things that keep you on an even keel (like the OPs yoga class) - why is this risk not being taken more seriously

Duopuss81 · 22/12/2021 06:56

Seriously, where do people on MN get their info?? All these people saying it’s just mild?! I have several colleagues properly laid up in bed ill, one with a hospital visit, one who’s wife died, two who’s parents have died, one who passed to to a neighbour who died and one who can only come in until lunch then has to leave because of long covid. The long covid and the parents were at the beginning, the rest are post vaccine. There have been a consistent 700-1000 people dying every week since the vaccines. THAT’S LOADS! And if one more person uses that ridiculous driving analogy I will lose it! Just use common sense and don’t be selfish and we’ll all get out of this sooner!
My partner didn’t get it when we did, he did the shopping, he went for walks, he went for a cycle - he just missed out the pub and the gym for 10 days! Not hard!
