to go to a yoga class when my daughter has covid

I have no symptoms. I have numerous negative lateral flow tests.

I'm interested in what other people are doing. (Btw I did a virtual class today and didn't go, but I really missed it).

Itsnotdeep I know a yoga teacher who had a transplant, is that CEV enough for you?

Gunpowder · 20/12/2021 21:24

I think for these thorny moral questions we just have to follow the guidance. Otherwise our lives could be on hold forever! So I think you wouldn't be unreasonable to go provided you don’t have symptoms and your LFT is negative.

I’m still going to yoga this week and am fully aware I could catch Covid. I’ve had my booster and I’m willing to take my chances - like you it really helps my mental health. I very much doubt anyone vulnerable will be going to an indoor exercise class in the current climate.

MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 20/12/2021 21:25

Worst case scenario if you go- you have covid and pass it on to everyone else there.

Worst case scenario if you don’t- you miss one yoga class.

Gunpowder · 20/12/2021 21:25

X post Grimbelina I hope she’s teaching online rather than in person at the moment.

Itsnotdeep · 20/12/2021 21:26

I didn't go and am unlikely to go, but it just makes me feel really sad that I can't go this week. I'm off work and it's one of the things I was really looking forward to.

And it doesn't make it right for me to do it, but everyone I know is in this position, and most people are just living normally. (Central London).

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 20/12/2021 21:27

I know a lot of the people at my gym and I couldn't live with myself if I spread it around there and screwed up peoples Christmas plans or worse made someone very ill. That's as much incentive as I need to stay away. I will dust off the home pull up bar and kettlebells and do some home workouts like I did in lockdown.

rrhuth · 20/12/2021 21:28

@Itsnotdeep

I suppose I kind of think that a CEV person won't be in the yoga class. They're more likely to be in the supermarket.
Oh this is fucked up thinking. Why on earth do you think someone CEV is not there? Or someone married to someone CEV? Or someone married to someone whose relative they care for is CEV?

Plus in yoga class you are in there for an hour presumably - if it were Omicron you have a good chance fo infecting the whole class.

DrunkenKoala · 20/12/2021 21:28

Yabu.

I cancelled DD’s trip to see FC today as my son currently has covid. As much as DD wanted to go (she’s nearly 7) I couldn’t do it. She took it quite well. We did go to the local park to stretch our legs but went quite late when it was quiet and we kept our distance from anyone we did see, but I still felt bad about that even though I wasn’t breaking the law.

Bagamoyo1 · 20/12/2021 21:28

Actually 10 yoga classes if OP normally goes every day and isolates for 10 days. I’d go OP (tomorrow)
Crunchymum · 20/12/2021 21:29

Central London is absolutely fucking rife at the moment (I'm zone 1, figures in my borough are insane). I've just spent 4 days in with my 6yo as she had a cough and her PCR took ages to come back.

Just do it online for a few days.

ilovesooty · 20/12/2021 21:30

No wonder London has so many cases.

I think if you probably have covid in the house you should limit your movements and contacts as much as you can.

Houseplantmad · 20/12/2021 21:31

No one I know who's in this situation is living normally because it's the week before Christmas and they don't want to risk infecting anyone.

Seven colleagues tested positive last week - five were asymptomatic and had negative lateral flows but were positive with PCR and by the time the result arrived they had developed symptoms.

R0tational · 20/12/2021 21:31

Despite answers here, I am going tomorrow to the gym early morning (as long as my LTF is clear and I have no symptoms). Those are the rules and I am going crazy at home with a sick child. The LTFs are 80% accurate if not more.

KaycePollard · 20/12/2021 21:32

I’m glad you made the cautious and considerate decision not to go. It shows you care about others.

DropYourSword · 20/12/2021 21:32

Given that it’s well known that LFT’s have a high false negative rate I think it’s clear in your situation that morally you really shouldn’t go.

ttcpatronisers · 20/12/2021 21:33

It's not morally wrong OP, life goes on and you are doing something perfectly legal. This Bs has to stop - it's a cold for most people and those who it get seriously should be vaccinated by now. Go to your yoga class OP

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 20/12/2021 21:34

I don't know loads about yoga but I thought it was something that very much doesn't need a class

No equipment required and if you go every day surely you know your stuff and can go through your own routine or there's loads online if you do need that

I love going to the gym and lifting heavy weights which I can't easily do at home and I was also looking forward to some extra sessions on my week off but no way would I risk the health of fellow gym goers or indeed the viability of the business (not going to be great for business if they are the source of an outbreak)

edwinbear · 20/12/2021 21:35

DD tested positive Thursday night. Of the 3 others in the house, I tested positive Sunday morning and DH Sunday evening, DS still negative on LFT’s but I have ordered him a home PCR just to be safe. I went out once on Thursday evening to stock up on food, (no online delivery slots), other than that we’ve stayed at home and cancelled all our Christmas plans. It was obviously the right decision.

Luredbyapomegranate · 20/12/2021 21:37

Well would you want someone doing that to you?

Obviously not, so don’t go.

MissAmbrosia · 20/12/2021 21:37

My friend's son has covid currently and despite her daily negative tests I'm not happy to meet up with her indoors until his period of isolation is up. At least she told me about this so I have the choice. I do appreciate people have to go to work under these rules, and even to get food, but beyond that surely you would minimise your exposure to others?

MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 20/12/2021 21:37

Yes I see now that OP goes daily. I assumed a weekly class and maybe two classes at most would be missed.

Even so- I don’t think that justifies going. Going ten times makes it even more risky to more people.
notanothertakeaway · 20/12/2021 21:39

@Itsnotdeep

Actually I go every day. It's pretty essential for my mental health.
We all get fed up with missing our hobbies

YABU for dressing it up as a MH issue

Aphrodite31 · 20/12/2021 21:41

You shouldn't go. It's not fair on others. You may be negative today and positive in the night. My daughter's friend was negative for five days with all the symptoms, then positive.

Just hold off for a few days? Do the yoga at home.

Blossom64265 · 20/12/2021 21:41

Morally reprehensible is the phrase that springs to mind.

You can exercise at home. You can definitely do yoga at home. If you are in a household with someone with Covid, you may have no choice but to leave the house for your job or school because of government policy and the need to remain financially solvent, but you do have a choice about leisure activities.
