to go to a yoga class when my daughter has covid

I have no symptoms. I have numerous negative lateral flow tests.

I'm interested in what other people are doing. (Btw I did a virtual class today and didn't go, but I really missed it).

OP posts:

Teachers with a positive case in the household are still going to school. Hospital staff with a positive case at home are going to work. Supermarkets staff with a positive case at home are serving customers. For all you know, the yoga teacher could have a positive case in their home.
That's true.
My answer was based in Ireland. Poor DS is in lockdown 20 days negative regular tests , parents had it, now DD has it.
I was advised today DS has to do an extra 7 days after DD's 10 days finish Christmas eve. Sad fed up.

If you are vaccinated and lateral flow testing daily then the advice is that you don't need to isolate.
It depends where they are. In NI they must self isolate.

The OP lives in central London not northern Ireland though.

@Itsnotdeep

I suppose I kind of think that a CEV person won't be in the yoga class. They're more likely to be in the supermarket.
I'm CEV. Shielding has finished. Im triple vaccinated and I had Covid in November 2020, and I'm just as likely to be in a gym class as you. Socially distanced, yes, but looking at me you'd not know I was CEV. Please be aware that is CEV folk pop up in places you might not expect us to be.

Just as legally you can go out, I'm advised I can go out with no shielding being in place now, and I have to go to work. I'd rather you didn't go to the Yoga class if there's a Covid case in your household, but accept I can't stop you and that you're mental health is important. It's the risk I take.

MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 20/12/2021 22:39

Thanks I hadn’t seen that.

Why wouldn't they be in a yoga class? You have no idea of their medical history
Sugarplumfairy65 · 20/12/2021 23:44

@LJAKS

My daughter tested positive today. Her dickhead dad who we don't live with gave her it in the ten mins he's spent with her. Christmas is cancelled now we are stuck in for pretty much the rest of the year. I am devastated. Another Christmas without seeing my family. She's CEV and likely to put this omicron is mild theory to the test. I'm very much over all of this shit now. But no I wouldn't go to yoga.
If your daughter is cev, you need to contact her specialist team and ask about the immunotherapy drugs that are available to cev people. If the pcr test is positive, someone should contact her within 24 hours. All those who were in the shielding group who are still classed as cev got the email today from nhs
Emerald5hamrock · 21/12/2021 00:59

@LJAKS Oh no it is very disappointing.
I hope you're DD has an easy time with the virus. Flowers

Smileyaxolotl1 · 21/12/2021 01:08

Luckylavender
No but I have been reading all about it for the past 2 days as I am in isolation with covid. If you have a high viral load then LFTs have a high chance of picking up the infection.
Just because you are clearly ignorant on the matter doesn’t mean everyone is.

LemonViolet · 21/12/2021 01:17

If you attend the studio daily, I assume you are a member, what does your studio’s covid policy ask? The studio I go to asks that you please don’t attend class if you know you have had contact with a positive case, it’s written on the website and in every reminder email etc. They livestream most classes as an alternative. It’s 10 days - less than that now surely.

Covidclaire · 21/12/2021 01:17

@Emerald5hamrock

I'd say No. My DD got a positive covid result 14 days after we were infected, she had symptoms after 11 days but negative lft for 3 days with symptoms.
She shouldn’t have been relying on LF if she had symptoms.

Despite what many on MN would have you believe LF tests are pretty good at picking up cases (80% of cases confirmed by a PCR, 95% of cases likely to be highly transmissible, according to the article I read in the Independent today).

But they’re not 100%, which why symptoms always require a PCR.

JellyOnAPlatewithicecream · 21/12/2021 03:27

I don't think we should get to the point where vunerable people catching covid is put above all else. The effect restrictions / lockdowns / isolation is having on society and some people in particular is awful.

That this is even seen as a moral dilemma, and not something absolutely clear cut, shows just how far we are into a death spiral of utter moral degeneracy as a society.

Do the online class.

Cheesywhine · 21/12/2021 04:56

No you definitely shouldn’t. You’ll be inside, no masks on and breathing heavily.
It would be very selfish of you.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 21/12/2021 05:10

I don't think I'd go to yoga but people saying "you shouldn't be going anywhere" some people can't afford to take time off work, presumably you're offering to pay people's bills so they can stay home?

Why wouldn't they? Stupid assumption. I'm ECV and off to the gym shortly. But according to you I'm more likely to be in a supermarket!
Toadsinholes · 21/12/2021 06:26

I’d go. I know a few people at the gym who have done exactly the same thing (including the instructor) because it’s ALLOWED. FFS, if it’s legally allowed & you’ve tested negative, what more do people want?

AnguaResurgam · 21/12/2021 06:32

Yes it's allowed, unless you know/suspect omicron in which case household isolates

But I wouldn't do it, especially not when there is an online class available. I wouid be pausing all non-essential indoor activities

echt · 21/12/2021 06:34

Why don't you ask the organiser of the class what they think?

Possibly they could put it to the other members of the class.

GemmaRuby · 21/12/2021 06:49

I hope your DD feels better soon.
Personally I think you and anyone else in the household should get a PCR.

I know people that have had positive PCRs recently despite having no symptoms and negative lateral flows.

Personally, I'd just settle for a bit of common sense. Thrilled we live in a world where we aren't legally locking people up in their houses, but would hope most people have the morals to stay at home unless they absolutely can't.

It's not illegal for a kid with chickenpox to go to a birthday party but any parent taking them would not be popular.

Apple1971 · 21/12/2021 07:04

The issue is do you follow government guidance (which seems to be a bit absurd at the moment) or do what is morally right.

I’m a teacher. I have literally been coming into contact daily with pupils who are testing positive but I’m allowed to carry on as normal, including going to work. If I did test positive, my partner who is an oncology nurse is still allowed to go to work. So the guidance is a bit crazy.

That said I’m not in close contact with pupils like you are with your daughter …

Morally I think the right thing to do is stay away from yoga for now and do it online.

Toadsinholes · 21/12/2021 07:17

Meh. Then I’m immoral. I can live with that.

DrSbaitso · 21/12/2021 07:22

Oh just don't. So close to Christmas. I know you legally can, but just don't. It's only one class.
