So retired/ex teachers are being asked to consider returning to the classroom because of possible staff shortages in the New Year. Is this something you would do?

OP posts:
Hercisback · 22/12/2021 20:16

I think it can’t hurt, as I said

Very different tone to your posts earlier. They were more "bring on the retirees to catch up the nation".

flipflop76 · 22/12/2021 20:17

Absolutely not. 15 years was more than enough for me!

swallowedAfly · 22/12/2021 20:20

Well I’m also worried Fred will catch covid and get very sick and even if he manages to get an ambulance the hospital may not be able to take care of him and his wife, Doris who he’s infected. Fred and Doris have spent nearly 2 years social distancing and following government and medical advice till the government said he should sign up with a supply agency and go into school. As a result they die.

Fairly sure the hcps having to hold their hands as they die will be effected too. Not to mention their grandkids but hey it was worth it for a weeks babysitting 🙈 can’t do any harm ffs

So isolate the classes every time their teacher is off?
swallowedAfly · 22/12/2021 20:37

You’re ok with pensioners dying and stand by your can’t do any harm point then?

So at the very least mandate masks in classrooms, isolate close contacts especially those living in a house with positive cases and make sure schools can afford sanitiser, masks and the heating bills is a start. Why is it do nothing or get oaps in? Here comes another tangent.

I would imagine that vulnerable ex-teachers wouldn’t apply to go in. What’s the tangent bit?
swallowedAfly · 22/12/2021 20:40

And maybe tell ofsted to back off inspecting and all be deployed to schools to earn the full pay they’ve been on throughout.

Plenty of things I’d do before resorting to risking the lives of pensioners. Protect your granny-unless she’s a retired teacher. Come on! You couldn’t make this crap up.

I don’t think the intention is to kill off old teachers. It’s not conscription.
swallowedAfly · 22/12/2021 20:47

You just like to argue and twist it seems rather than answer questions.

It’s just trolling at this point. Is it just to prevent others from talking? Online fillybustering ? No idea how to spell that.

And mock teachers for doing their best for their students

Malesh. Peace be with you.

Says the person who wrote this:

MrsHamlet · 22/12/2021 21:10

So do you think it would be better to have no Fred and the class isolate until you’re back?
Again, you're putting words in my mouth.
No. But Fred or the lady who does cover normally makes no odds. Someone else has to plan and mark the work. Because neither of them is paid to.
Better by far that I don't get sick.

swallowedAfly · 22/12/2021 21:12

Ahh you didn't see that my, You’re ok with pensioners dying and stand by your can’t do any harm point then? was a comedy mirroring of your preceding one line post of: So isolate the classes every time their teacher is off?

Nevermind.

No: the choice is, we continue as we are (not working) or we ask ex-teachers to come in (can’t hurt). I’m not saying it’s a perfect solution, I’m saying I can understand why they asked.
Pumperthepumper · 22/12/2021 21:20

I think it’s a pretty big ask for teachers never to get sick too.

borntobequiet · 22/12/2021 21:24

Well that’s true in my case, as age is the most significant risk factor for Covid. But ex-teachers who left the profession before retirement age will be those who found teaching unrewarding or difficult. So the choice is between those who love teaching, but are vulnerable because of their age, or those who don’t want to teach anyway.
Impasse.

FrippEnos · 22/12/2021 23:13

No: the choice is, we continue as we are (not working) or we ask ex-teachers to come in

Or they could put some real mitigations in place.

(can’t hurt).

Unless you are an ex or retired teacher that could get sick and pass it on to family members.

I’m not saying it’s a perfect solution,

Good because its bullshit of the highest order.

I’m saying I can understand why they asked.

Because its cheap and if/when it goes wrong they can continue to blame someone else.

Well, let’s do nothing then. That’s the only solution being proposed, so let’s just leave it.
swallowedAfly · 22/12/2021 23:30

I take it you have an issue with masks?

Hercisback · 22/12/2021 23:30

No one has said do nothing.

Priorty vaccines for teachers.
Ventilate classrooms.
Fund schools properly.

Would all actually help.

None of those are being proposed by the government!
Hercisback · 22/12/2021 23:33

sigh I'm aware the government are proposing none of those things. They are my ideas to help.

The governments ideas have been mostly shit, as evidenced by the retired teacher policy.

swallowedAfly · 22/12/2021 23:34

Oh so we should take what the government offers or shut up and have nothing? Honestly you're being really bizarre. Why wouldn't people say no that's an awful idea let's do this instead?

I assumed you were against masks because you kept saying it's pensioners or nothing and ignoring the lists of suggestions people were putting forward. Glad to hear you're not. Masks in classrooms could make a real difference as they did last time for the brief spell we were allowed them.

FrippEnos · 22/12/2021 23:35

Why should I just "leave it"? its an opinions forum

Sigh but none of your ideas are being floated just now. So your ideas mean absolutely nothing. Sigh.
