For Christmas Day/Boxing Day?

£10 too much? Or would you spend that as it’s a special occasion?….

Go….

I will be buying the M n S pine cones which I think are £14-15 - have already bought Waitrose panna cotta star which was £9 DS wants their Yule log which is £16 and I will also buy a Sainsbury’s pavlova or meringue roulade
Probably spend about £50 total but will see us through Xmas eve, Xmas day and Boxing Day easily
I do all savoury stuff from scratch but save cooking time by buying desserts

Juniper68 · 19/12/2021 20:59

@EllieSattler

I've bought the M&S Night Before Christmas smash cake. It was £20. Six of us will eat it and it looks beautiful.
Ooo I'll try and get that
MrsClatterbuck · 19/12/2021 21:00

I always try to buy a M&S luxury sherry trifle. Though its really only me who eats it. It takes me me at least 3 days not mentioning any sneaky forages to the fridge I also buy the individual Christmas puddings which Dh has with custard it has to be custard I prefer brandy cream or thick double cream as long as they are cold. He also likes profiteroles which I will also get.

CrowBones · 19/12/2021 21:01

If only, @DroopyClematis, if only.

SpottyStripyDuvet · 19/12/2021 21:05

Same as @ellieSattler I've bought the M&S Night Before Christmas smash cake. £20 for six of us which is a bit extravagant
Only £3ish each which seems reasonable for Christmas day.

Babdoc · 19/12/2021 21:05

Eating a dessert alone in the desert would make you feel deserted. And that you hadn’t received your just deserts.
OP, you can’t buy a whole desert for £10. But you might get a small sand pit…. Grin

Topbird29 · 19/12/2021 21:06

We've ordered the colin caterpillar elf cake for kids, have a traditional xmas pudding, and a home made thing mil makes. However, peob spent more on the xmas eve dessert- 2 lots of the m & s chocolate flower pots with xhoc orange mousse as a filling. They were £8 for 4, and had to get 2 lots as meant to be 6 of us (now 5). And I so nearly succumbed to the tesco black forest cake - but with all the cheese, really would not be required!!

Travis1 · 19/12/2021 21:08

I’ve got 3 on order with Tesco. For 9 of us. Think it’s about £30 or £40. Hoping there will be leftovers for Boxing Day

I'd like this if it had chocolate coins or something inside. But seems a bit dull tbh.

Is probably pay up to £10 for q good yule log

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 19/12/2021 21:11

I googled it, and you can get 40 acres of mountain desert in Arizona for $54,000 which seems quite reasonable to me?

Hunderland · 19/12/2021 21:12

I went out for dinner today and my cheese and biscuits dessert was £9.70 so yes, I'd definitely spend that.

Floralnomad · 19/12/2021 21:15

We always have a few desserts to choose from ; 2 different Christmas puddings ( with alcohol and without) , Rodney reindeer cheesecake , trifle , chocolate pine cone things and gf cake .

WildCherryBlossom · 19/12/2021 21:16

Ooh @TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross that sounds great. I'm off to Arizona!

(Sorry OP - don't really have a sweet tooth, my family has to make do with a pack of mince pies after Christmas lunch - deserts are much more my cup of tea)

WildCherryBlossom · 19/12/2021 21:20

Arizona desert

To say forget about covid for now, I want to know, how much would you spend on a desert?!?!
Pascha · 19/12/2021 21:26

I'm ignoring desert (dry) vs dessert (pudding)

Between 4 of us we want 3 puddings. Christmas pud for dh and me, trifle for Ds1 and me, neapolitan ice cream for Ds2 and dh.

The ice cream is only a couple of quid. The Christmas puds plus cream are a little more. The trifle requested is strictly sponge, jelly, custard, dream topping, sprinkles (a la Birds). So overall it'll be about £15 altogether I guess.

Laiste · 19/12/2021 21:28

Well if it's the only dessert and it has to do two of you over two days then 10 quid isn't much.

I personally wouldn't spend £10 on one packaged dessert because we like 5/6 desserts on the table and it would get v pricey. We have 9 people over 2 days.

Thinking about it the ingredients for just my trifle probably comes to about £10. But then that would serve about ... well ... 10 bowl fulls i guess.

User12398712 · 19/12/2021 21:32

@WildCherryBlossom

Arizona desert
Curse you, I hadn't even considered America. Is Arches National Park technically desert? I'd definitely buy a chunk of Utah but Arizona would also work.

(I do like a dessert but favourite deserts is far more inspiring.)

Alexandra2001 · 19/12/2021 21:42

I liked Etosha but i think its salt based not baked biscuit.

Kshhuxnxk · 19/12/2021 21:53

I didn't connect the mis-spell, I thought it was funny that people went to deserts, anyhoo, I'd spend as much or as little as I wanted to on my favourite pudding!

Starcup · 20/12/2021 11:50

@WorraLiberty

Sahara or Gobi?
😂😂 just realised my spelling

antisocialsocialclub · 20/12/2021 12:03

Depends how big it is. If there’s features like a cactus or an oasis, then significantly more.

Alarmset · 20/12/2021 12:06

I'd spend £10 on a special desert for 2 people, still a bargain compared to eating out.

Alarmset · 20/12/2021 12:06

I've done it too with the spelling Blush
