AIBU to think this over sexualised photo is just weird!

Christmas elves are magical, cheeky and apparently now “sexy” with Amanda Holden. I just find it so weird for grown women to dress up like this and kiss in this way.

She's been desperate for a while, I thought we'd moved on as a society from this mainstream faux lesbian titilation.

littlebilliie · 18/12/2021 07:37

She looks great, but she is very glamorous and I wouldn't know it was her it's almost an anonymous photo. I'm sure there could have been better photos

DrSbaitso · 18/12/2021 07:38

No one is saying she shouldn't dress to show off her amazing body, but it's how you do it.

How should we do it?

Swisscheeseleaves · 18/12/2021 07:43

So much ageism on this thread, I'm no fan of hers but contents like "mutton dressed as lamb, her daughter will be ashamed, she's too old to be doing that" plus some other older women named as they're similarly "desperate" . I think it's a horrible tacky image because it's two presumably straight women kissing for the male gaze but it's possible to say that without bringing her age into it.

I wonder what is like ageing in the public eye where people expect you to stay young and beautiful forever or you'll eventually lose your job. It's not hard to see why she does these things.

I don’t really think it’s about her age, I think it’s tacky and desperate and inappropriate to have your teenage daughter taking overly sexualised photos as she does

However, with age comes wisdom. I think a 19 year old posting a faux lesbian photo is a bit naive but by 50 you’ve had enough life experience to realise it is tacky

So I think some of the age comments are totally valid

ZombieCocktail · 18/12/2021 07:53

I didn't look closely at the photo - I thought she was kissing a mirror 😀

‘It’s not hard to see why she does these things’ - are you being serious?

Why aren’t all women of a certain age carrying on like her, if it’s ‘not hard to see why she does these things’?

They’re not though, are they? Because most women - young and old - have no need, desire or want to ‘do these things’.

LoveGrooveDanceParty · 18/12/2021 07:58

And I’d be just as mortified by my daughter carrying on like it - like anyone I knew and may once have respected carrying on like it - as I would be by my mother.

again2020 · 18/12/2021 07:58

I usually quite like her, she's funny and beautiful but this is bloody awful.
I also thought she was kissing herself.
Belongs in Nuts magazine.

Monkeymilkshake · 18/12/2021 08:01

The floating hand is scary! And it seems the one on the left has airbrushed one of her legs!
Very strange!

Swisscheeseleaves · 18/12/2021 08:03

Most women don't work in TV which is largely run by men, for men. I expect there's a lot of pressure on her to stay relevant and let's face it, the photo isn't aimed at Mumsnet.

So I think some of the age comments are totally valid

There's never any excuse for ageism. Would you say the same about sexism? Or any other ism? It's ok to make ageist comments if she's brought it on herself by not acting as a 50 something year old woman should?

DrSbaitso · 18/12/2021 08:07

So much horror, revulsion and moral outrage, relating to her age, her self-sexualisation and, of course, the worst MN crime of all... Attention Seeking. God forbid.

And pretty much none of it directed at the one thing that I'd think might warrant it...the fact that it arguably presents lesbianism as something performed by straight women for men or merely to "shock".

DrSbaitso · 18/12/2021 08:09

@LoveGrooveDanceParty

That's a very extreme reaction to a fully clothed photo showing a clearly staged light kiss.

"Carrying on"?

Nemorth · 18/12/2021 10:15

Don't hate the players, hate the game.

This is prime patriarchy.

All of the above.

So much internalised misogyny on this thread.

LittleRoundRobin · 18/12/2021 12:13

I'm not bothered about it personally, but yeah it IS a bit attention-seeking. And as has been said, the airbrushing is fierce. Amanda is slender, but not as much as she looks here.

YANBU @mumof2exhausted

100problems · 18/12/2021 12:55

I find her quite amusing, but it's so tedious having to dodge all the pics of her over-adrenalised tits and bits.

FictionalCharacter · 18/12/2021 13:04

Everything gets turned porny these days.

liveforsummer · 18/12/2021 13:06

I thought thee were both her and that YWBU. As it turns out it's not then yes that's very cringe .

liveforsummer · 18/12/2021 13:08

Also as far as I know Amanda is straight - so not like she's making an stance and celebrating her sexuality

Mouseonmychair · 18/12/2021 13:25

Don't hate the players, hate the game.

This is prime patriarchy.

Women blame men for everything on here perhaps the two people involved should have the accountability, seriously 2 women kissing (I believe freely and unforced) there are no men involved at all and still the man hating carries on here. this site should be renamed misandrynet.
VickyEadieofThigh · 18/12/2021 14:05

I'm one of the gays but I find this curiously sterile and unsexy.

PeaceONoeuf · 18/12/2021 14:27

I still can’t tell which one is Amanda ..

CockSpadget · 18/12/2021 14:43

She can dress how she wants, it's her body, she can have as many cosmetic procedures as she wants, it's her body. The problem lies with the blatant lesbian titillation aspect of the pic. If she was gay/bi fair enough, she's not, she's straight, and married. Read the room Amanda, it's 2021.

Nemorth · 18/12/2021 15:05

@Mouseonmychair I'm not sure if you are agreeing with me or disagreeing!

Just in case I want to be clear that in this instance I'm not "blaming men" but the patriarchy which is different.

Women participate in the patriarchy too (you only have to look at the women who support FGM to see this laid bare).

The patriarchy in this context is the cultural system in which we all live. The women here are being torn apart for almost everything about that image BUT it's a product of the patriarchy.

Don't hate the women. It's our culture and society that have created this.

Don't hate the players. Hate the game.

Don't hate the women, hate the fact that for some reason they have decided to do this for some reason and that may include staying "current" in a society where men are considered fully human and women less so.

Where men are the consumers and women are the consumed.
