Does anyone snack in the evening

I generally do. But recently snacking has got worse in that I will have one slice of cake and then want some chocolate afterwards. Sometimes I have snarfed a large bar of chocolate, 6 x foxes chocolaty biscuits and a large slice of cheesecake. I eat healthy in the day (porridge, nuts, fruit etc) but after dinner, it's like the sweet monster comes out - have put on a couple of stone since beginning of year.

Just wondering if anyone else has a pudding in the evening? On talking to my friends they say that if there dinner is a large enough portion then you shouldn't need a snack at night.

Yes I do
I have a sweetie cupboard it's always kept full 😂 Percy Pigs, Chocolate Bananas, Cola bottles, Strawberry Milkshakes and a large biscuit tin.

In the evening I will happily eat the chocolate doughnut I bought out the bakery earlier that day or a packet of crisps.
I've got a cheek to tell dd she can only have one thing out the sweetie cupboard every day.

I used to have biscuits and a decaf brew. I cut it out and now don’t eat after 6pm till breakfast at 9/10 am. It’s habit more than anything, I wasn’t hungry it was just part of a routine. I wouldn’t quite call it intermittent fasting as I still drink coffee in the morning.

It wasn’t that difficult to stop tbh.

@TheYearOfSmallThings

Capitalism is getting rich on your weakness and the only one losing is you. But not weight. You’re gaining weight.

So true! But if capitalism shut up shop tomorrow I'd be out there sucking honey from a tree trunk and fighting the bears for hazelnuts. I would find way to snack.

I don’t think honey comes out of tree trunks! 🤣

But whatever you were doing, you’d be burning enough calories for it to be fine. Eating a box of toffees and sitting on the sofa is a whole nother ball game.

LaurieFairyCake · 16/12/2021 13:46

Yes, gin and crisps every evening

Love it !

blacktreegreysky · 16/12/2021 13:47

No.

I love snackingin the evening even more so at the weekend when having wine. I like to turn it into a 2 course affair so like savoury followed by sweet Grin

The ONLY thing which has a 99% success rate is brushing and flossing my teeth as soon as possible after my last meal. I'm really thorough with them but find it boring so if I'm going to snack and therefore have to do them again the snack has REALLY got to be worth the hassle, if you get me?!! I allow myself Fridays and Saturday nights off but boy, sometimes the Stop switch is late in going on!

It's weird as last weekend we hadn't planned it as such but we ended up not having our usual alcoholic drinks on Saturday night and the craving wasn't as strong for snacks. Still there a bit but only just. And when I did start thinking about having them I decided that if, after 20 minutes, I still had the craving I would get a small something. And I managed to get through with none! But it's weird as I was very aware that craving was there so really felt I'd beaten my inner snack demon!

Good luck OP Thanks

Yes to all the snacks. Elevenses, afternoonsies, few crisps before dinner, wine, after dinner chocolate. I would be sad without all this. I'm not fat really. Also good breakfast, lunch and dinner. I am actually hungry for the meals and snacks. I don't understand these people who don't seem to eat that much, I'd be so upset on a diet.

But yes, it's amazing how hard it is to break the habit.

BobbieT1999 · 16/12/2021 14:00

Yes it's my big weakness atm, I'm eating lightly and healthily during the day and have a healthy dinner and than evening comes around and BAM...craving chocolate or crisps.

I think a lot of it is do with the dark nights in winter and I need to start taking vit d again. I also think I've become accustomed to it and just need to retrain my brain.

fellrunner85 · 16/12/2021 14:02

It's important to remember, though, that it's what you eat in total that counts.

For example, I eat in the evenings as it works for me with my running schedule, but I don't eat breakfast. I also don't eat mountains of sugary stuff in the evenings; its usually yoghurt and fruit, or cheese and crackers. I also eat much smaller meals than most people I know.
Not all snacking is equal..

Lacedwithgrace · 16/12/2021 14:04

Yes, so I have a healthier choice snack about 6pm when DD has dinner, and then I have my dinner later at 8/9 ish. I also found brushing my teeth earlier than normal helps, or having a can of diet coke helps too

takealettermsjones · 16/12/2021 14:06

I do snack but I don't have a sweet tooth so it's mainly savoury things for me. I made a batch of tzatziki the other night and then ate the lot with breadsticks Grin I do try to limit it though, so I leave at least one night in between 'snacky' nights. Or if I know I'm going to have a drink say on a Friday, I'll deliberately not snack on Thursday night because I know the risk is higher after a couple of drinks. That said I don't have much bad food in the house, so it wouldn't be too bad anyway - maybe crumpets or something.

Justcallmebebes · 16/12/2021 14:07

No never. Only fruit because I don't buy or keep any snack type food. Only way to avoid it

SilverOtter · 16/12/2021 14:09

I would if I let myself! The urge is always there. My husband doesn't help, every night he has crisps/Pringles/sweets etc and it's so hard to say no.
Im like you in that I have a massive sweet tooth and the more I have, the more I crave, so I daren't go back to bad habits for fear I won't be able to stop again.

ILoveAllRainbowsx · 16/12/2021 14:10

I used to but I stopped by having a treat day (Saturday) when I am allowed to have whatever I want after dinner. This gives me something to look forward to.

If I want something sweet after dinner I have a boiled sweet (werthers or lemon sherbert).

alittlequinnie · 16/12/2021 14:10

I have dinner at 7.30 and that's it until breakfast next morning at 10.30 am - lunch at 1.

I do this Monday-Friday - Saturday night I HAVE to have chocolate in the evening !

I don't snack because I don't keep it in the house - if it is in the cupboard - it's eaten!

Funny enough - when I am at my daughter's house (who does have a naughty cupboard) I am straight in there for the sweeties and chocolate!

Just don't buy it!

toastofthetown · 16/12/2021 14:10

No. Absolutely nobody else has snacked in the evening. You must have invented the concept. Why do you think you are being unreasonable?

ILoveAllRainbowsx · 16/12/2021 14:12

@SallyWD

No, I'd soon be obese if I snacked like that at night. I do 16/8 (eat during an 8 hour window each day, fast for 16 hours) so I don't eat or drink any thing (apart from water or green tea) after 6pm. I don't mean to sound smug, I'm not but this works for me. I genuinely feel full and satisfied at bedtime and never hungry. 16/8 has saved me after years of yoyo dieting.
I do similar, but I prefer to stop eating at 8.30pm and not eat until 12.30pm the following day a I find it easier not to eat in the morning.
blobby10 · 16/12/2021 14:12

yes yes yes!! My danger point is as soon as I walk into the house from work - I feel I HAVE to eat something. I've managed to restrict it to four biscuits down from a lot more but still want to scoff something sweet post evening meal. I've been better since I stopped eating breakfast and lunch - somehow when I'm really hungry I don't want to snack!

WorraLiberty · 16/12/2021 14:13

Rarely.

We eat dinner about 5.30pm and I don't really feel hungry after that.

Shedmistress · 16/12/2021 14:15

If I eat even one biscuit after 6pm I'm up half the night with indigestion. So no.

caringcarer · 16/12/2021 14:16

Oh God yes. I snack on crisps or chocolate or sometimes goates cheese and crackers.

shumway · 16/12/2021 14:18

I love a snack.

Dearblossom · 16/12/2021 14:20

I ate 2 twix and a quarter box of Turkish delight in bed the other night. Which has now reminded me there are 7 more twix in the cupboard, arghhhh!
