What would you do - stolen cat

Any advice? My ragdoll cat went missing on Saturday she’s been seen in a house on the next road. I also saw heard her when I knocked on the door they saw me through the window and sat back down.

For context this happened before end of 2019, however I got her back after a lot of going there, knocking on door calls etc. someone text me to say that she was in their garden so I went over and grabbed her.

No issues since then I kept her indoors for a significant period of time. She went out Saturday, I couldn’t lock her in that night as I was in hospital with my baby. I didn’t think to ask the person doing the animals for me to lock the cat flaps.

So far I’ve been to the house, added posts on Facebook asking if people have seen her etc. when this first happened that’s how I found where she was the woman admitted locking her in for a week and said she was going to take her to vets just didn’t get around to it. I’ve sent text messages as well.

I can’t keep going around tonight in the cold as I’m a single mum was a three month old baby who has an infection whos already had one hospital admission?

Do I keep going around / asking someone to for me? Or call 101 as I know in some areas police will intervene but not all.

It's very heartening to know that the police took this seriously and you now have your beautiful cat back with you. But please, please keep them indoors. Ragdolls are very valuable, therefore very stealable. Because they are the gentlest of animals, they will not cope outdoors because they would not be able to defend themselves. Keep your catflaps permanently locked, have a couple of litter trays scattered around the house, as well as food and water bowls. Invest in some cat toys, so that they don't get bored. They will be fine.

I think we need photographic evidence. Wink

What a beautiful photo! I’m so pleased April is back home with you.

I hope your sons health improves soon.

Glad she is back!! Cute picture. Those neighbours sound like total arseholes, stealing someone else’s cat is so low

I'm so pleased you got your cat back!

My exMIL has 'taken in' a few cats which we have fallen out over the years about. I don't understand why people think they can just take cats. My exMIL said one followed her home and she decided to keep it, I just don't understand the mentality.

I adore my cat and it's always worried me that someone would take him.

@melissasummerfield

Just go back and if you know they in keep knocking the door / window / shout through the letter box until they come to the door?
This is what I would do,just keep knocking and banging til they're forced to answer. Demand your cat back. Bring other people with you if you're concerned.
ChangeChingyChange · 13/12/2021 13:49

Oh just seen the updates - glad you got your cat back what odd people to try and steal it. So odd. Can't believe the police actually went and proactively sorted it too.

Glad you have your cat. What did the neighbours say/explain themselves to the police?

Absc · 13/12/2021 14:06

I wasn’t concerned as in threat, my issue was my three month old who was born five weeks early has bronchitis. He had only just come out of hospital having needed an ng tube. So I couldn’t keep taking him out in the cold and wet.

She said she didn’t hear anyone knock as door bell was broken and didn’t say anything about me texting her etc.

You see it on here even-

“cat keeps coming round what do I do?

Looks like you have a cat o/p!”

It’s theft- unless you make every effort to find the owners, check for chip etc with no luck, then you can call it yours. In laws gained a cat this way, but they flyered every local house/street, put up posters, facebook, vets, cat rescues etc and no one came forward.

It makes my blood boil the way people casually start feeding other peoples cats.

The whole “oh looks like you’ve got a cat” is just the justification cat stealers - and if you start feeding, therefore luring, someone else’s pet into your home or garden thats what you are - need to feel that it’s a good thing they’re doing.

We’re currently having to keep our cat indoors because of one such person. She’s utterly miserable, but she’ll be more miserable if they feed her the food they insist on giving her because she loves it (which she does) because her health will fade quickly without meds and specialist food.

This is what makes me glad my cat is an annoying little git sometimes. Screams and screams until he gets what he wants, even if that's a door opened. Anyone who stole him would bring him back. Grin

so you live next door to a cat burglar? baddum tishhh.......

That's my cats saving grace. He goes missing sometimes for a day or 2 but always ends up home as he wouldn't shut up unless let out and you can't leave the house unless you have ninja skills if he wants to escape
