To just leave him in bed

DrierThanANunsNasty · 11/12/2021 09:49

DH went on a work Christmas party last night. Came home at half 11, has thrown up no less than 5 times, and is now snoring like a walrus.

He swears it was the prawns in the prawn cocktail making him sick and not the 5 beers and 3 vodkas.

We’re supposed to be Christmas shopping and putting the tree up today. Shall I just leave him in bed? Or maybe even LTB? Grin

He goes out about four times a year, before the “he’s an alcoholic” brigade come out. And no kids he’s letting down, just me the big kid who was excited about doing our tree today.

YABU - wake him up with a glass of cold water to the face and go get your tree
YANBU - leave him to sleep it off poor lamb

Food poisoning is nasty @OhGiveUp- my sympathies! I thought I'd got indigestion too 😨
(I did blame prawns for mine but it was never proven- vile all the same)

Eyesofdisarray · 11/12/2021 12:13

Is he OK OP.?
Your post has made me laugh- ideal as I'm off to work soon 🙂

TimeForTeaAndG · 11/12/2021 12:14

I'm rethinking my answer that it would depend where they were / quality of food that it might have been the prawns.

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 11/12/2021 12:15

5 beers? Lightweight! Maybe it really was the prawns.

thepeopleversuswork · 11/12/2021 12:25

I may be an old sour puss (probably am) but I can't understand why people want to go out and drink so much when they have plans the next day.

I agree with this. Yeah it may only be four times a year but the bottom line is that he went out and got slaughtered the night before knowing you had plans.

I'm not sure we're in LTB territory but I'd piss overnight for that and wouldn't buy him presents. Not impressive.

andtherewere2 · 11/12/2021 12:28

It's 12.24 so hopefully DH is recovering a bit now.
I eye rolled at the one PP not getting joke who said we were all pandering to man illness more than a woman being ill! OP would say if her DH was generally unsympathetic when she's over indulged ! I'm also #teamprawn on this!

A weekend has two days ... tree and Xmas shopping will wait. Or do xmas shopping all online like me 😁

If he managed to keep a fried breakfast down that's a good thing...

StNicholasisKnickerless · 11/12/2021 12:28

Hope he's got a dressing gown of doom to put on during tree decorating!

RodneyIsDave · 11/12/2021 12:30

I’d leave him until whenever he decides to crawl out of bed. For me it wouldn’t be a big deal. Can do the tree/shopping tomorrow

TillyTopper · 11/12/2021 12:35

I don't drink but used to - 5 beers and 3 vodkas doesn't seem like it would make someone sick once let alone 5 times. I'd leave him to it perhaps it was the prawns. Make him watch Strictly in penance though!!

TempName01 · 11/12/2021 12:37

I was really sick recently after a meal and few drinks but it turned out to be covid so worth testing!

starfishmummy · 11/12/2021 12:39

@DrierThanANunsNasty

Blimey some posters really don’t understand tongue in cheek do they. Of course I’m not going to chuck water in his face, put speakers next to the bed or LTB. The mind boggles Hmm

Oh it’s always food poisoning innit? Amazing how there are so many cases of it this time of year!

Or my ex would constantly pull the ‘I got a dodgy pint’ excuse. Apparently the fact that he drank 10+ pints was not the issue, it was that one of them ‘tasted funny’. Happened in pubs all over our city too. Remarkable.

But if its a works do, you can't just change the date because that's when the wife wants to buy a tree. And I wouldn't expect on his one night out over Xmas for him to stick to come because I'd picked an arbitrary date for tree shopping.
ivfbabymomma1 · 11/12/2021 19:13

Are you sure it isn't food poisoning?? 5 beers & 3 vodkas really doesn't seem like a lot! I know everyone is different but I'm not a huge drinker but I could drink that and be ok

Pawprintpaper · 11/12/2021 19:20

@SleepingStandingUp

In his defence, it seems like a lot of vomit for what he drank, I'm team #badprawn

This thread has really made me laugh.

On a serious note, I doubt it was the booze, especially if he was sick a few hours after coming home. Last time I was sick with drink it just came out of nowhere and was just once.

However it is really lovely that your dh is such good friends with the lady from work, what a catch Grin

ememem84 · 12/12/2021 08:50

@ThePants999

Definitely the prawns. You don't throw up five times cos of booze.
Yep. Yep you do. If you eat nothing.

However I see the ops DH did eat. So I’d be blaming the prawns too

ssd · 12/12/2021 08:59

I hope you have your ducks in a row ?

Smartiepants79 · 12/12/2021 09:10

I also, originally thought that 5 beers and some vodka wasn’t alot of alcohol for a grown man who’s also had a proper meal.
Unless he’s a complete lightweight.

DogInATent · 12/12/2021 09:36

Can't you take advantage of the situation and carefully decorate him as the tree whilst he's incapacitated? Artfully draped lights, and sprinkle glitter over the baubles...

notamilf · 12/12/2021 21:56

Another poor buggar who's life is being controlled. You're actually asking what time to 'let' a grown man sleep till?! I'd be going to a hotel if I was him. The tree doesn't need to be put up today at all. You just want to be awkward, its Christmas and he's got pissed. Wow

notamilf · 12/12/2021 21:57

Also, I'm a woman and 5 beers and 3 vodkas would be pre drinks before I even went out

Secretdancers · 12/12/2021 22:34

Don't give him a hard time op. I once went for a big night out (friend's milestone bday) and couldn't get up all day next day! And I had a baby and a toddler I should have been looking after 🙄
Luckily my husband let me sleep (and throw up) as much as I needed to and kept the dc out of the room. I learned my lesson without being given a lecture.

scarpa · 13/12/2021 13:24

OP, mine has said he doesn't even want a tree this year. At least yours elaborately staged a prawn abuse scenario to get out of it, mine is saying "blah blah blah nowhere to put it since you set up a massive desk with 3 monitors in the back room".

So unreasonable of him to want to adhere to the rules of space time. I suggested getting one that hangs down from the ceiling and apparently that's "ridiculous".

I've put fairy lights round his playstation though, because I am both very festive and passive-aggressive.

scarpa · 13/12/2021 13:25
