To just leave him in bed

DrierThanANunsNasty · 11/12/2021 09:49

DH went on a work Christmas party last night. Came home at half 11, has thrown up no less than 5 times, and is now snoring like a walrus.

He swears it was the prawns in the prawn cocktail making him sick and not the 5 beers and 3 vodkas.

We’re supposed to be Christmas shopping and putting the tree up today. Shall I just leave him in bed? Or maybe even LTB? Grin

He goes out about four times a year, before the “he’s an alcoholic” brigade come out. And no kids he’s letting down, just me the big kid who was excited about doing our tree today.

YABU - wake him up with a glass of cold water to the face and go get your tree
YANBU - leave him to sleep it off poor lamb

Think of the waiting upon your every whim he’ll need to do tomorrow, if you’re gracious and understanding today. Bigger picture, innit. Xmas Wink

StNicholasisKnickerless · 11/12/2021 10:19

Ah leave him. I'm doing this with my younger son today. Fortunately no husband to have vomiting though !

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 11/12/2021 10:19

Wake him up at 12, go shopping at 2.

I’m treating myself to a lie in right now. My first hangover this year I think! Not even for a Christmas party, just dh and I, at home, deciding quite a lot of wine wasn’t enough and that a whisky to finish up was definitely a most satisfactory requirement Hmm

NovemberNovemberDarkNights · 11/12/2021 10:22

Yeah I'd think it was the prawns too!

I'd let him sleep as long as he could, & hopefully he'll better when he does wake up.

Go shopping tomorrow, if you really want to go and want to drag him along. Personally I'd rather go on my own if I had to go (shopping is my idea of hell - I know, I'll have my 'British woman' badge taken off me!)

Do the tree tonight or tomorrow.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 11/12/2021 10:23

It was probably poor planning to plan to put the tree up the day after his Christmas do!

But yes hopefully he’ll be ok by the afternoon.

I might have done a similar thing pre kids Grin

Barton10 · 11/12/2021 10:24

Let him sleep it off and do the tree and shopping tomorrow. Do something you want to do today and leave him to it.

Smartiepants79 · 11/12/2021 10:24

I’d just leave him. It’s not something he does often and he’s not shirking any responsibility. Tree later maybe or tomorrow ??

cruffin · 11/12/2021 10:27

Just leave him! Not like he does it often.

SmellyOldOwls · 11/12/2021 10:31

If you want to get him up and out the best cure for a hangover is to jump in bed with him Blush
Although I wouldn't be too keen on shagging someone who's vomiting prawn cocktail all over the place so maybe just let him stay there Grin

MobyDicksTinyCanoe · 11/12/2021 10:33

He shouldn't be in that state off 5 pints and 3 vodkas, it does sound like the prawns.

Id open the windows and go out for a few hours, you can whack him round the head with the tree tomorrow instead. Xmas Grin

ememem84 · 11/12/2021 10:44

Leave him be. But get all festive yourself.

I was in his situation a couple of weeks ago. Work do. No dinner. 4 large glasses of wine. Sicky sick sick. 2 kids and a DH at home.

DH left me to it until 12. Then called me told me to get my sorry drunk ass out of bed and down to local cafe where strong coffee red coke a bacon roll and chips were waiting. Legend.

Phobiaphobic · 11/12/2021 10:45

Seen a lot of these posts where husband has got so pissed the night before he fucks up the wife's plans for the next day. So many mumsnetters saying let him be, poor lamb.

Be really interesting to see the reactions if this were the other way around. I'm willing to bet my house hungover wives aren't let off the hook so lightly.

rwalker · 11/12/2021 10:45

Honestly the replies in this thread have restored my faith in MN.

Normally it would be LTB, treat yourself to a day out at his expense, wake him up at 6am and of course he will of shagged someone on the way home ,

It seem that the rare breed of common sense realistic MN are all online today .

rwalker · 11/12/2021 10:46

Ahh @Phobiaphobic in ture MN style

RampantIvy · 11/12/2021 10:48

I think it might have been the prawns as well. I'm surprised that he had agreed to go Christmas shopping with you. DH would rather eat hair than go Christmas shopping.

Can you go shopping on your own and put the tree up later or tomorrow?

OverTheRubicon · 11/12/2021 10:49

I'd leave him be and do the tree later, so long as it's not common and he'd treat you well too.

What would worry me more is getting so drunk at a work event that they throw up 5 times. My colleagues are into partying, but I'd think it was pretty grim to have someone in that state, maybe a couple of the junior team but it doesn't sound like you're just out of uni..

AdrianeMole · 11/12/2021 10:49

Leave him in bed because if you drag him up, he'll be useless and whingy all day which is actually more annoying (voice of experience)

IamGusFring · 11/12/2021 10:50

5 beers and 3 vodkas ? Bit of a lightweight ?😂

LegoPandemic · 11/12/2021 10:53

If the 5 beers were pints and the vodkas doubles, that’s 16 units. For me it would depend what time they started. If 7.30 I would be ill. If lunchtime I’d be ok but tired and delicate.
Take yourself shopping.
Do the tree tomorrow or this evening with mulled wine for you.

LegoPandemic · 11/12/2021 10:54

If I am hungover DH is very nice to me. Far nicer than I deserve 😂

inmyslippers · 11/12/2021 10:57

Surely you've packed your bags already?

SleepingStandingUp · 11/12/2021 10:58

In his defence, it seems like a lot of vomit for what he drank, I'm team #badprawn

SimpsonsXmasBoogie · 11/12/2021 10:58

5 beers and 3 vodkas, and he's in this much of a state? LTB for being a lightweight. Buy a cat today and get Christmas photos done together. Then you and cat can put the tree up together and have the magical Christmas that you've always dreamed of.

Finish the day with 11 whiskies and 7 gin and tonics.

DrierThanANunsNasty · 11/12/2021 10:59

@inmyslippers

Surely you've packed your bags already?
They’re by the front door, I have told him he’s got an hour before I take our furry kids and stay at my sisters.

Ignore the miserable fuckers here OP, it’s very clearly a light hearted thread 🙄
I would let him sleep as long as he like, have dinner tonight and decorate the tree in the evening. I do this every year anyway, do the tree of an evening with a bottle glass of red 😉 he will hopefully have recovered by then!
