dont you have better things to worry about instead of what other people buy their children?

ye gads

mrspnut · 18/12/2007 12:32

My daughter, almost 11, used to ask for playboy stuff all the time. She used to point things out in shops and the book of dreams until I explained to her what playboy was.

When she realised that playboy was a magazine full of ladies with no clothes on she decided that it wasn't something she wanted to advertise incase people thought she wanted to be in the magazine. She has also campaigned amogst her classmates to get them to boycott playboy merchandise as well.

SheherazadetheSwedishjulbok · 18/12/2007 12:34

if i explained what playboy was to dd (almost 4) she would be wildly excited and demand i buy the magazine. she loves nudity.

branflake81 · 18/12/2007 12:40

I agree with you that's it's pretty tacky but at the end of the day what one parent buys their child is not the business of another.

mrspnut · 18/12/2007 12:40

Slight difference in ages there - I'm sure that DD1 would have been the same at 4.

It's when she was going through her most prudish stage so it had more impact. I also did a bit of the women being treated as objects talk as well.

ajandjjmum · 18/12/2007 12:41

I struggle in that when I was younger Playboy was a magazine for boys, whereas now the girls all want the Playboy stuff.

My dd is 14 and it is still banned - but as she'd say, I'm an old prude!

Hennipenniinapeartree · 18/12/2007 12:54

I had to stop my mum buying playboy stuff for my 13 yr old DD. When I said no she said well it doesn't have the same meanings now as it did when you (me ) were younger! Oh really mum?
