To give £5 Costa voucher

Sprogonthetyne · 09/12/2021 10:55

Dose anyone know if that would actually buy anything? Or would it mean the recipient having to pay the rest, so not bother using it?

It's to go in cards for DS's teacher/TA's, last year I did £10 gift cards, but he has 4 adults working with him at different times this year (+2 more in DD's nursery) and really I don't have £60 for teacher gifts.

Would a £5 gift card be appreciated, or should I just buy boxes of chocolate / biscuits.

I meant not for £5- you cant get a sandwich and juice for £5 in Costa here

Well a juice and a packet of crisps then. There are many, many options.

@HolidayTime2021

Most of the country doesn’t have Costa ?? It's the UK's biggest coffee chain with about 2600 locations! They are everywhere.

How very town/city centric.
Why would someone drive 20 miles or more each way for a £5 coffee voucher?

LOL, don't be ridiculous. You never visit a town for whatever reason and pop in to costa while you're there? Never stop at motorway services? It's a nice gift, keep it in your purse and you'll use it eventually. You're just being a grinch.

Well they work at a school that the OP says has a Costa nearby.

I live in the middle of nowhere in Northern Ireland and still occasionally happen across a costa. Most of us rural dwellers do occasionally go to a town or city to shop, work or meet friends Hmm

HelloBunny · 09/12/2021 18:25

Why do people boycott Costa?
Did they do something, or is just in support of independent places?

Is Costa a British company? I remember when they opened &
reading about the bloke who owned it.

@DDMAC

I wish the shops would come up with a better system of gift giving, these plastic cards are so environmentally unfriendly! I cringe when I see them.
many coffee shops will do an email voucher that people can use from the email on their phone, or the coffee shop app
WalesStar · 09/12/2021 18:39

Some miserable people on this thread!! I’d love a costa voucher. Even if I had to add to it, it would only be a pound max for a coffee and cake. It’s a lovely gift OP. Smile

Sceptre86 · 09/12/2021 18:54

You can't get much from Costa for a fiver. I would just but a box of chocolates instead.

A cappuccino is under 2.50 (I suspect other coffees are too) Slices of cake are under 2.50

It would buy a hot drink and a sweet treat if that's what you chose to spend it on.

4kids2cats · 09/12/2021 19:01

Speaking as a teacher, I would LOVE this as a gift.

Marimaur · 09/12/2021 19:04

But Costa coffee tastes like dirt?

Ozanj · 09/12/2021 19:09

If you are struggling I suggest just trying to arrange a costa delivery to them? It will be cheaper as you can buy them a coffee each. Just talk to the reception to arrange it.

Xmasbaby11 · 09/12/2021 19:15

I think it's a nice gift. I go to Costa often and it's not much over £5 for coffee and cake. There are smaller snacks and cheaper drinks but you can definitely get 2 items for around that much. I think it's a lovely gesture and they will spend it on themselves.

TinySaltLick · 09/12/2021 19:17

It's the worst possible coffee, so I would reconsider. A Greggs or McDonald's voucher? They both serve nicer drinks.

It truly is horrendous as high Street coffee places go

mummyh2016 · 09/12/2021 19:24

Please don't buy your child's teachers McDonald's vouchers! Costa is fine as long as there is one nearby.

Duchess379 · 09/12/2021 19:33

I'd definitely be happy with a Costa voucher 👍🏼🍵

You've obviously never had a Starbucks Envy (not envy)
Suzanne999 · 09/12/2021 20:39

You won’t be the only parent who has this idea so each teacher/TA could easily receive 2/3/4 or more x £5 gift cards. It’s a good idea.

NewPapaGuinea · 09/12/2021 20:43

Any independent cafes you can support instead?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 09/12/2021 20:59

Problem with independent coffee shops is there is only one single place in the country you can spend the voucher in.
Yogaandcocoa · 09/12/2021 21:02

Perhaps speak to other mums and if s few of you buy vouchers you can do so for the same place

I think a £5 voucher is a bit of silly amount. Everyone's saying how much a coffee and tea is but do they all drink tea and coffee? I don't. A bit chick generally costs over £3 most places so it's just an odd amount. Maybe a box of chocs or sweets or shortbread would be better.

Or you could buy some nice coffee or tea if they like that.

Oakdene · 09/12/2021 21:06

I think independent too. Is there one close to school?

What about an independent bookshop voucher, can be used in various independent bookshops.

Thatsplentyjack · 09/12/2021 21:06

I cant tell if some people on here are intentionally obtuse or just fucking thick.

🤣🤣

Rockbird · 09/12/2021 21:31

Love the fact that you can't buy a Costa voucher because some corner of the country might not have one, but you can buy a one off independent coffee shop one. There's some logic there.

peboh · 09/12/2021 21:33

I go to costa regularly, and spend less than a fiver on a drink to go, so I'd appreciate it as a gift. I can't imagine a teacher/ta also wouldn't appreciate it.

Indeed. Confused

The OPs intention is to give a small token gift and a Costa voucher is about as inoffensive a gift as she will be able to give matching her budget.

Ignore all the naysayers and those who are just looking to pick holes in a kind gesture and be safe in the knowledge that it will be used and appreciated by approximately 99% of people so it's a great choice. Smile
