To give £5 Costa voucher

Sprogonthetyne · 09/12/2021 10:55

Dose anyone know if that would actually buy anything? Or would it mean the recipient having to pay the rest, so not bother using it?

It's to go in cards for DS's teacher/TA's, last year I did £10 gift cards, but he has 4 adults working with him at different times this year (+2 more in DD's nursery) and really I don't have £60 for teacher gifts.

Would a £5 gift card be appreciated, or should I just buy boxes of chocolate / biscuits.

@Djmaggie

Are schools still accepting teacher gifts this year? My Sons school is not even allowing the exchange of Christmas cards again due to covid.
Why is that? Has there been some breaking news that I've missed on the Omicron variant being transferred by means of festive greetings cards?
Beautiful3 · 09/12/2021 13:11

Personally I wouldn't bother using it. I'd intend to, but id put it away and forget. Especially Costa, as I never go there. I have wasted so many gift cards, as they expire after 12 months. Why not stick an actual fiver in a card and write, "to buy yourself a treat." They could put it towards something else they fancy.

SirensofTitan · 09/12/2021 13:12

@Bigoldhag

Absolutely would be appreciated - it’ll get them a coffee and a cake!
How do you know they like coffee and cake?

What a strange assumption, obviously I'm not one of the school staff but if I was I wouldn't appreciate it as even though I do like coffee I don't like it from Costa and I wouldn't ever buy a cake.

TheKeatingFive · 09/12/2021 13:19

How do you know they like coffee and cake?

It's not a totally outrageous assumption.

And they could get juice and a sandwich alternatively.

I have no idea but that’s what they did last year and what they have announced again for this year. They have also said that parents cannot attend any Christmas concerts and nativities and all outside trips have been cancelled.

frazzledasarock · 09/12/2021 13:42

Get the a love to shop voucher instead they can whack it on their weekly grocery shop if they need.

HolidayTime2021 · 09/12/2021 14:04

Most of the country doesn’t have Costa
£5 leaves money sitting in the card or required someone to spend their own money to use it

I would rather get nothing than a £5 Costa voucher

It for £5
tallduckandhandsome · 09/12/2021 14:18

Would £6 cover coffee and cake?

TheKeatingFive · 09/12/2021 14:26

It for £5

Yes. And?

PinkWaferBiscuit · 09/12/2021 14:27

Gosh there are some miserable posters on this thread. It's a lovley token gift to show a bit of appreciation, I'm sure if they don't want it they can pass it on to someone else they know or someone in their family.

By the logic of some of those on this thread you shouldn't get them anything, there would be a counter argument no matter what you chose.

Get them biscuits - they might be coeliac
Get them a decoration - they might have a theme for their tree
Get them alcohol - they might not drink
Get them chocolates - they might be dieting
Get them smellies - they might have sensitive skin
Get them nothing - you don't care

Stick with the voucher it's a very sensible token gift of thanks. Grin

Surely the OP isn't going to get one if there is no Costa nearby!

And there are loads of things you can get under £5, or if you don't want to leave anything on the card, putting an extra 10p in.

Yes there's an assumption that the person likes coffee, or tea, or hot chocolate, or juice, or cakes, or sandwiches, or knows someone who does and might use Costa, but it's not an unreasonable assumption for someone that you don't particularly know well!

I think most teachers would be appreciative of it. Much prefer it to biscuits or chocs, actually. They can also re-gift it, if they really can't use it, as most people know someone who will use it - even if it's at an airport or train station some time. Mostly they don't have expiry dates, though it is worth checking.

Greyhedge · 09/12/2021 15:18

When I go to costa I almost exclusively order a small latte and a bakewell tart and at my local one that’s £4.80 so I’d be very pleased with £5. I’ve bought teachers and TAs a £5 costa voucher as when I was teaching I would have loved this.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 09/12/2021 15:22

Someone once got me a Costa card, as a postable gift. I was beyond thrilled with it. It's somewhere I go occasionally, and knowing my coffee was covered for a couple of visits was great! Will go down better than a lot of the teacher gifts that you hear people moaning about on here!

PrincessNutella · 09/12/2021 15:25

My guess is that more than one person is likely to give them a Costa voucher, so it would add up. I think it's nice.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 09/12/2021 15:28

I would be very happy with that

FromageRay · 09/12/2021 15:37

Not to piss on your chips OP, but I think the minimum voucher Costa offer now is £10.
I had the same thought but their website only offers multiples of £10, might possibly be different instore??

Ignore me! You can select 'other' and then it offers £5 as the minimum. As you were!
Reallybadidea · 09/12/2021 15:39

Can you get £5 costs vouchers? I've never seen one less than £10.

Plantsandpuddlesuits · 09/12/2021 15:46

This is a lovely idea for a present. I'm actually hoping for similar for myself!

Yesterday I got a medium decaff latte and a cake (almond and raspberry) in Costa for £5.30 I think

Most of the country doesn’t have Costa ?? It's the UK's biggest coffee chain with about 2600 locations! They are everywhere.

How very town/city centric.
Why would someone drive 20 miles or more each way for a £5 coffee voucher?

DDMAC · 09/12/2021 18:05

I wish the shops would come up with a better system of gift giving, these plastic cards are so environmentally unfriendly! I cringe when I see them.

HolidayTime2021 · 09/12/2021 18:05

I meant not for £5- you cant get a sandwich and juice for £5 in Costa here

Many people boycott Costa

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 09/12/2021 18:07

Well, yes, just like most of the population

Why would someone drive 20 miles or more each way for a £5 coffee voucher?

Only an idiot would do this. The rest of us sensible people would put the voucher in our purse, then at some point in the year its valid, will happen upon a Costa in a shopping centre, a motorway services or whilst visiting a town or city and think "ooh this one is on X child"

I cant tell if some people on here are intentionally obtuse or just fucking thick.
