Nursery called social services after toddler’s black eye

I’m in bits and terrified here. Today my son was at nursery and my DM collected him. When she got home in the light, she noticed my DS, 20 months, had a black eye. She called me and asked if I had seen it before nursery and I said no. She called the nursery and asked what had happened, and one of the girls was very rambled in saying that my son had fallen from the slide and hit the side of his eye on the wood, and that they had applied a cold compress, and then he was wobbly.

2 minutes later the manager called me in a hurry, nervously apologising and saying how angry she was with her staff for not calling me or updating our ParentZone app. In our contract it states that we as the parents are always notified if something happens like this.

It raised concerns with me, and I said I was sorry but I was going to pull DS from nursery due to negligence.

She accepted this and cancelled December’s sessions, however 15 minutes later I received a call from her saying she had contacted child’s services, because I had ‘too abruptly’ removed my son from nursery which made them suspicious.

So now, I’m going to have a call from social services and a toddler with an ever-developing black eye.

Someone please tell me it’s going to be okay :(

I think, given your other thread OP, they did the right thing and I hope this might actually result in you getting some help.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 06/12/2021 22:59

I’ve just read your other thread- I wouldn’t actually start a campaign against the nursery, I would focus on you. Let ss come and access however they need to and hope you’re ok.

MinnieJackson · 07/12/2021 00:04

Your other thread isn't loading for me, can anyone give me a summary? Are you already involved with ss? Does your child have other marks or bruises unrelated to the black eye? Why didn't they call you? Are you down as being first contact or a partner, grandparent/ friend? Did you get a missed call that you missed etc?

TurnUpTurnip · 07/12/2021 00:10

I can see from your other thread there is more going on so there might me more to why they called so I don’t think anyone can say ss won’t be interested, sounds like there is more to the situation than has been posted which is why removing the child probably rang alarm bells

@Itsalmostanaccessory

That's a malicious report. I would be raising merry hell about this.

Your toddler was injured whilst in their care and you chose to remove him because they didnt even inform you. That's your choice to make. Immediately after removing him, they report you to social services? No. Not on. That's malicious.

Contact Ofsted. Contact your MP. I would be dragging that nursery through the mud.

Contact her MP

FFS. The drama

Well that’s a great way to waste SS time! The injury occurred while he was in their care. They didn’t report it to you in breach of your contract with them and you have absolutely every right to remove him! Hopefully a quick phone call will clear it up.

Ive read your other thread now and can see why the nursery may have contacted ss. This may get you the help and support you need and have been struggling to access. If I had to guess I'd say they can see that you are in crisis and are flagging that up. Flowers

whymewhyme · 07/12/2021 06:00

Which one is it,the child walking alone to school?

whymewhyme · 07/12/2021 06:05

Oh sorry I got confused, I've found it.

All i can say is lets not judge someone by their previous posts. her child came home with a black eye and no feedback as to how it happend. The nursary are still out of order

PurpleFlower1983 · 07/12/2021 06:12

It will be fine OP, go and get the accident report from the nursery then report them to Ofsted!

PurpleFlower1983 · 07/12/2021 06:16

Ahh OP I’ve just seen your other thread, it may be that they have other concerns at the moment that you have already flagged up yourself. I hope you are able to access the help you need. SS may be able to help.

onanotherday · 07/12/2021 06:17

OP I doubt it will even meet threshold for MASH to contact so please don't worry. If they do it more than likely be a phone call to check out . I can not see what they are going to say, a child injured themself while in our care!
Please don't worry...contrary to what people think SS is there to help.
