Hi all, just looking to see what others did when they have a 21/22 month gap between babies regarding double pushchairs
We can't avoid getting a double buggy can we really?
I was thinking the older one could go on a buggy board but that's not practical for longer trips out
Or have the new baby in a sling for a while but that's only really doable first 6 months (I'm v short and will more than likely find it hard to carry baby in a sling post six months)
So what would you do/did you do please? What double pushchairs are best? I really would like as slim as possible really (not side by side
TIA

Mine were 22m apart and I used a Phil and Teds. Don’t know if they still exist, my babies are now 8 and 10..

floatinginmyhomie · 05/12/2021 19:19

19 months between my two, DS is only 3 weeks old but so far we haven’t got a double pram. I’m just using a sling.

TheCatsBathmat · 05/12/2021 19:21

20 month gap here, put my back out badly carrying the baby in the sling while chasing after the toddler and still paying the price 6 years later. (Baby didn't like being put down, so I was using the sling in the house as well as out and about and it was just too much.) A double buggy is also a lifesaver because sometimes you just need them both strapped in and safe somewhere. We had an inline one, which is probably better when they are very different weights and used it until the elder one was 3 and it was just too heavy to push

SnackSizeRaisin · 05/12/2021 19:22

We have mountain buggy duet bought on market place for £50. It's side by side but similar width to a single. The seats are quite narrow, my 2 year old just about fits. It's heavy and difficult to push. I use it a lot as we live 30 Min walk from town and the baby can nap on the way to groups.
Carrying in a sling and pushing a single is hot and heavy, probably not really very practical if you do much walking.
My toddler often rides his bike now, in 6 months that will probably replace the double pram. Or a buggy board would also work - you can get the ones with a seat.
My advice is get a second hand one then you can sell on if you don't like it.

EmpressSuiko · 05/12/2021 19:23

We purchased a mountain buggy as it could be used from birth and the seats could be individually adjusted, we made sure it could fit through doorways etc, it was really light and not overly wide, easy to move around and took seconds to unfold/fold up and didn’t take up too much room in the boot either!

AlistairCamel · 05/12/2021 19:25

22 months then 21 month gaps. No double buggy - we had a buggy board with seat

EmpressSuiko · 05/12/2021 19:25

It was the mountain buggy duo, I think it’s discontinued now but there must be similar options on the market, my two are 18 months apart

gogohm · 05/12/2021 19:26

2 years 2 weeks apart, yes to double buggy

Wimpeyspread · 05/12/2021 19:28

My youngest are 22months apart - I had a double pushchair, a Maclaren umbrella fold one (this was 35 years ago) easy to fold with one hand, and lightweight

ChocolateDeficitDisorder · 05/12/2021 19:28

Mine were 23 months apart and I bought a tandem (but could be a one-seater too). I was planning to buy a side-by-side but the lady in the shop said they were better for twins as the seats are narrower than standard so not so good for a well-sized 2yr old and a tiny.

The tandem was two tilting seats (this was back in 1999) and it was fabulous and did the job well for the next year. Both of them would nap comfortably if we were out and about. A bit heavy to get in an out of the car, but I have no regrets.

Roselilly36 · 05/12/2021 19:29

I had my two DS’ with a 21mth gap, we bought a Double Mountain Buggy, worth its wait in gold quite honestly, no way could I have coped without it, DS2 was 9lb 3oz when he was born so I would have struggled with a sling. Good luck OP.

Stretchandsnap · 05/12/2021 19:29

21 months had a Phil and Ted stackable buggy - was great as really sturdy and I had big children so it really lasted well - also used have a random friends toddler ride on the foot it over the front wheel if need be - mine are 10/12 now so probably loads more options

Wilkolampshade · 05/12/2021 19:29

23 months apart. Lived in London and didn't drive so walk and bus/tube everywhere. Single buggy and sling then when started childminding as well single buggy, sling for the wee one and buggy board.

LynetteScavo · 05/12/2021 19:39

Phil and Teds saved my sanity. Worth every penny.

Suspiciously · 05/12/2021 19:39

Closer age gap. Hated double buggy so used pushchair plus sling or pushchair for baby and toddler on backy board.

MargotsBumpyNight · 05/12/2021 19:41

2 years apart and then 20 months apart. We used a Phil and Ted's Dot. Highly recommend!

EcoCustard · 05/12/2021 19:45

I had 12 month gap, & 2x 20 month gaps and had an Out ‘n’ About Nipper double or used my single Nipper with a close caboo then a Tula carrier. I do love rurally and walk dogs daily though.

roseky · 05/12/2021 19:46

Mine will be 27 months apart. We just bought a Phil and Ted's. Its only slightly bigger than our single stroller and fits easily in our fairly small car. The main seat is huge, so I expect we will get years of use out of it.

NameChange74567 · 05/12/2021 19:48

15 month age gap, I have the bugaboo donkey. I love it, can be used as single or double.

newtothenet · 05/12/2021 19:49

I think we just used a combination of balance bike, buggy board and sling.

DementedPanda · 05/12/2021 19:53

15 months apart and I got a city jogger double.. not the side by side.. the one that can be a single or double with multiple seating positions. City select it was called

CrimbleCrumble1 · 05/12/2021 19:53

21 months apart, I had a side by side double buggy but mostly drove places and carried youngest in a baby seat and my toddler walked holding my hand to get to for example a toddler club.
At the weekends my DH and I pushed one DC each in their own pushchair and that worked really well for about 15 months.

2pinkginsplease · 05/12/2021 19:54

22 months between ours , youngest was born in October and as we live in Scotland we can have harsh winters so we did buy a double, not an expensive one but it saw us through the winter, we used it for 6 months and then sold it on.

I couldn’t use a sling as my back isn’t very strong therefore I need to be careful with what I carry and do at times.

Frlrlrubert · 05/12/2021 19:57

I'm 21 months older than my brother. I had to walk apparently.

MrsColon · 05/12/2021 19:57

Be very careful if you're going to hold the youngest in a sling, especially if it's before they can hold their head up/roll. I know a woman who accidentally suffocated her 6 week old whilst chasing her toddler, it was a horrific tragedy. Slings are only good for short periods when babies are tiny - a flat pram is much better.
