Hi all, just looking to see what others did when they have a 21/22 month gap between babies regarding double pushchairs
We can't avoid getting a double buggy can we really?
I was thinking the older one could go on a buggy board but that's not practical for longer trips out
Or have the new baby in a sling for a while but that's only really doable first 6 months (I'm v short and will more than likely find it hard to carry baby in a sling post six months)
So what would you do/did you do please? What double pushchairs are best? I really would like as slim as possible really (not side by side
TIA

Phil and Ted's double. I walk a lot.

NoBetterthanSheShouldBe · 05/12/2021 18:40

22 month age gap. I bought a double buggy of the sort where the big DC is at the front and the baby is behind. DC1 hated it and walked everywhere from then onwards - no car so reasonable distances between wherever and the nearest bus stop.

Justheretoaskaquestion91 · 05/12/2021 18:42

We had a double buggy - bugaboo donkey. Buggy board is quite a lot for a child of 21 months I found it was best from 2.5 years and also it’s not nice in wind and rain. Just please don’t get one of those awful double buggies where the baby is stuck underneath the top one and can’t see anything/is low down amongst the fumes!

Whataday21 · 05/12/2021 18:42

Phil and Ted's here too. When they both fall asleep it's amazing. Had a cheapo side by side too. Great for sleeping. Sometimes we'd just take a buggy each. We had quite a few second hand buggies in the end.

We had a Jane PowerTwin and a Phil & Teds Sport. Both great but the Jane was best for when the youngest was born as you could add a carrier and recline the seat fully.

Have had a couple of other tandems, but the above were the best IMO. Also had a few side by sides but were always too big for shops etc.

kalidasa · 05/12/2021 18:44

I had a two year gap but a cautious and late walking 2 year old -- def needed a double buggy, I had a giant thing where they were in front of each other but you could turn the seats so they could also face each other which was quite sweet and it had storage too. I didn't like the ones where the toddler is right on the ground / half underneath the other.

I had a 21 month gap and bought a out n about 360 double and it was a god send, really easy to push and fold down.

I sold it when the youngest was around 12 months and got most of my money back so felt like a good buy.

Memyselfandmom · 05/12/2021 18:48

We had double stroller, 16.5months apart. I think it’s necessary until 2.5-3 years old, at that age just an attachment for a skateboard would work well. But 21months is a little young to trust they won’t keep hopping off.

MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat · 05/12/2021 18:52

I’d say it depends how club you walk. I have an 18 month age gap, don’t drive and I walk or go on public transport a fair bit. I couldn’t have managed without the double buggy but I have a friend with a similar gap who never used one but she drives literally everywhere. Even a 5 min walk and she will drive it 😂.

It probably also depends on the personality of your eldest. Mine was terrible for running away so I needed him strapped in.

longtompot · 05/12/2021 18:54

Mine were 14 months apart and we had a tandem pushchair where the seats were one in front of the other and not side by side. Much easier to get in and around shops, though quite long. I also had a buggy board on the back for my eldest when my youngest was born 9 weeks prem. It was tough, but doable. We also had a single pushchair for solo outings and attached the buggy board to that too. Loved that board, the best purchase ever.

Paganfreya1988 · 05/12/2021 18:55

When I had mine they were about 16 months apart. I had a silver cross pram as in my day didn’t want my babies being sat up to early. So my baby in the pram, the other was walking but sat on the seat. We then decided on a double buggy, not the width side by side, but one behind the other. Lovely pushchair, not cheap even then. Easier though than side by side pushchairs I felt, especially shopping.

Mine are 25 months apart. I bought a 2nd hand uppababy vista, it was great. Very sturdy.

Lulu1919 · 05/12/2021 19:00

19 month gap
Used double buggy a few times but toddler was a good walker....so soon didn't use it

AuntieObnoxious · 05/12/2021 19:00

Mine are 21 months apart, I’d decided to get a buggy board for eldest. Unfortunately it didn’t go as planned as he refused to go on it. I then got a Jane Power twin, which was fab, but very expensive. 2 weeks later he decided all he wanted was the buggy board just because he’d seen someone else using one.
I am glad I went for the Jane (this is 10 years ago) as it was so easy to manoeuvre and versatile but I always felt I hadn’t got my money’s worth.

Helpstopthepain · 05/12/2021 19:00

Ours were 11 months apart. I tried a few doubles but none worked for us so we used a sling and single buggy. I’m short but the ergo sling was great.

AudTheDeepMinded · 05/12/2021 19:01

I had a double buggy (side by side) with 21 months between my two. I had a section so couldn't use a sling for a while. I was given an off-road job nicknamed 'The Beast'. It was a pain to get onto a bus but was great for long walks outside. Most shops put their clothes racks too close together to manoeuvre it with ease inside. Also, the toddler would poke the baby when I was trying to get him to nap. Fun times. I also had a single buggy and a buggy board, with mixed success, Tired toddler didn't like it and would get off and walk in the other direction. So I fastened some reigns between him and buggy, and which point he took off like a sled team pulling the buggy with him. Ho hum.

CocktailOnion · 05/12/2021 19:02

19 months apart, I tried several combinations without satisfactory results before buying a second hand Phil and Ted's, it was fantastic the children used to argue about who got the bottom seat , they loved that bottom seat! I had years of heavy use out of that work horse.

Whitefire · 05/12/2021 19:06

My biggest are 22 months apart and I had a double, wouldn't have been without it.

Gatekeeper · 05/12/2021 19:06

20 month gap and used a Phil and Ted. Absolutely brilliant, easy to steer and could turn on a sixpence

Xmasbaby11 · 05/12/2021 19:07

24 month age gap and we had the Phil and Teds double buggy. It was amazing, really easy to push and both kids happy in it and napped in it. We used it for about 2 years so it was definitely worth it, would not have wanted to manage without it. I was out with them on my own several days a week. My oldest was a bolter so total godsend to be able to strap her in!

feeona123 · 05/12/2021 19:11

20 months - I had an icandy peach

thelegohooverer · 05/12/2021 19:13

Mine was a graco something or other. Both seats on the same level, you could pop a travel seat on the back one. The seats were online so no problem getting through doorways and a huge basket underneath.

Do try folding it up and getting it into the boot of your car before you commit as that can be a dealbreaker.

I loved mine. It wasn’t fancy but vastly outperformed some of the posher ones.

Notdoingthis · 05/12/2021 19:17

I had a buggy and a sling. Baby in buggy until toddler gets tired then toddler in buggy and baby in sling.

HousethatChunkbuilt · 05/12/2021 19:18

tinatsarina · 05/12/2021 19:18
