Hi all, just looking to see what others did when they have a 21/22 month gap between babies regarding double pushchairs
We can't avoid getting a double buggy can we really?
I was thinking the older one could go on a buggy board but that's not practical for longer trips out
Or have the new baby in a sling for a while but that's only really doable first 6 months (I'm v short and will more than likely find it hard to carry baby in a sling post six months)
So what would you do/did you do please? What double pushchairs are best? I really would like as slim as possible really (not side by side
TIA

20 months difference here - didn't fancy the double buggy due to cost and space. The toddler was in the push chair to start with and baby in a sling. DC2 was born in November so was a bit worried about him being in a sling during the winter but it was actually fine as I had massive coat I could wear over him. Once he got a bit bigger, moved to the buggy with toddler on buggy board and the sling in the bottom in case she needed a nap for longer trips and he had to come out. DC1 became a really good walker very fast, and soon didn't need the buggy so I was pleased I didn't get it. Spent hours looking at different options before DC2 was born but it really wasn't needed.

I had a 25 month gap and got a Phil & Teds - it was great.

TheCanyon · 05/12/2021 18:05

My first two are 22 months apart, we used a graco. Had just got rid of it when we found out we were pregnant with twins, so another graco. Awesome buggies for the basket.

Sh05 · 05/12/2021 18:06

19 months difference here with dd1 and ds2.
I got a chicco side by side double buggy because it was winter, I didn't drive and ds1 was in nursery so lots of walking in bad weather.
It was slim built and not too heavy and got through most doorways.
I did have a sling but ds2 was tiny at only 6lb at birth and I wasn't too confident with such such a little one in the sling plus dd1 had been the same so neither of them were very heavy to push in the buggy.

RedskyThisNight · 05/12/2021 18:09

Double buggy mostly, although I used a sling sometimes. I walked everywhere though. You might just about cope with a buggy board if you don't really do much walking.

Charliesgotachocolatefactory · 05/12/2021 18:09

I bought a second hand side by side out n about nipper which I used for about a year, then sold it and went back to the single nipper.

Heepers · 05/12/2021 18:10

I have 21 month gap and use a mountain double every day. The baby doesn't like the sling much and the buggy works for us. I'd recommend you get one tbh.

Santahatesbraisedcabbage · 05/12/2021 18:10

Ds and dd 20 months apart. Big double Babystyle pram.
Loved it. Had a Graco double for ds's 14 months apart...
Have 15 month gap and a 29 month gap. Double buggy =sanity saver ime.

Heepers · 05/12/2021 18:10

And there's loads of second hand ones on FB so they're not too expensive.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 05/12/2021 18:11

My two were 21 months apart. We used the double about 10 times, if that.

Elder DD was an extremely reliable walker with seemingly unlimited energy. Younger DD really like the sling. It also helped that DD2 was born mid March so winter was very nearly over, so we didn't have too much bad weather compete with.

StormyTeacups · 05/12/2021 18:11

Wrap sling or ring sling and a pushchair

SteggySawUs · 05/12/2021 18:12

We had a Phil& Ted's, works well as a single as well as a double so got years of use. Baby underneath and toddler on top at first, then as baby got bigger (6-9 months) they went on top and the toddler used to walk and then jump in the bottom when they got tired.

Dogsandbabies · 05/12/2021 18:16

22 month gap here and no double buggy. Sling the baby and push the toddler. As the baby is getting close to 6months I also use the buggy attachment (rather than the bassinet) and swap depending on whether the toddler is using it.

When we all go out together and for a while I take both the pram and the buggy.

weegiemum · 05/12/2021 18:18

My ds and dd2 are 22 months apart. When dd2 was born dd1 was almost 4. So I had 3 to get about and I don't drive.

To begin with I had dd2 in the sling, ds in the buggy and dd1 sometimes on the buggy board. Also sometimes put ds in the backpack and dd1 in the pushchair. Once dd2 was holding her head safely she could go in the bush baby backpack and she loved it so much she hardly wen5 in the buggy after that. Dd1 grew out of the buggy board pretty soon, she preferred to walk.

I used the bus a lot and a double buggy would have been a pain. Dd2 was so happy in the backpack that we were able to go literally backpacking in Central America when she was 16 months old!

So no, you don't need a double buggy but you will need a very comfy sling or other carrier.

20 months between DC. We had two singles (one with a carrycot) for weekends, and a Phil and Ted tandem which wasn’t too wide that I used when I was on my own.

PurpleVivo · 05/12/2021 18:24

22 months between our two. We had a Phil and Teds double buggy and it was fab. Got it second hand off ebay for £20 🙌🙌. We tried the iCandy peach but it was heavy and no good for an active family. The top part of the pushchair was like a normal one for my toddler and the baby went underneath in a bit that clipped onto the bottom. That pushchair went everywhere with us lol 😂

Alittlenonsensenowandthen · 05/12/2021 18:25

Had twins then another 2 years apart. I carried 3rd baby a lot so managed mainly with sling. At 2, they were pretty good walkers but if they got tired I popped baby in sling and let them sit in pushchair. It worked and by the time baby got too heavy they were out of buggy so I managed on a single buggy.

IntemperateSpirits · 05/12/2021 18:26

I got a shit one in front of the other buggy that was third hand on ebay and weighed a tonne because I was rarely going to use it, it was going to be buggy boards and slings all the way etc etc but DC2 was a porker and DC1 is was a lazy sod so then I got a P&T and my life was transformed. I should have just gone for it in the first place.

user1471598758 · 05/12/2021 18:29

Mine are 19 months apart and I never had a double buggy. Baby in sling and toddler in stroller for long walks, baby in pram and toddler on buggy board for short journeys. Toddler was insisting on walking absolutely everywhere well before the age of 2 anyway so I would have been pissed if I’d spent a fortune on a double, as it wouldn’t have been used for long😂

EberhardtSmallcock · 05/12/2021 18:31

@loveablequalities

Mine were 22 months apart and I didn't have a double buggy. I just used a sling. I carried til they were two (I'm 5 foot) in a big didymos wrap. I lived very rurally so I was not really wandering around the shops or doing lots of pavement walks.
Bloody Hell. I am 5 foot 1 and couldn't carry mine in a sling (though they were 10lb plus) even for a minute.

22 months between my DCs 1 and 2, OP, and I bought a Phil and Teds, which was brilliant. DC1 was a fantastic walker, but it was useful for when we were doing 5 miles or so cross country, in case he got fed up or if we needed to get a serious move on. Plus it was a useful shopping trolley. I then sold it on ebay for not much less than I paid for it, even though it had had several replacement parts due to super-heavy use - didn't put anyone off!

Hoowhoowho · 05/12/2021 18:31

We got a secondhand out n about double, its side by side but easier to push than my bugaboo bee and fits almost everywhere. It still takes my 5 and nearly 3yo which is invaluable on long walks/festivals and even with two heavy kids in it is super easy to push.
Only downside is it doesn’t fit easily in the boot of a VW Polo

KeyLimeFly · 05/12/2021 18:34

26 months here so slightly more. We haven’t every felt like we needed a double buggy. One in the sling, one in the pushchair if (now) 3yo doesn’t want to walk. Or I tandem carry both. I can quite happily back carry either of mine (3 and 1) with a woven wrap or our Tula so I wouldn’t necessarily rule it out.

Mammyloveswine · 05/12/2021 18:36

23 months between my two... I had a Phil and teds dot! It was great as could be a double or a single! Very sturdy!

EmBeEmBe · 05/12/2021 18:37

20 month gap here, and avoided the double buggy. I used a sling (manducca... good for both children), a very comfy rucksack and a buggy board once the bigger one was about 2 and a half. It was tiring but a double would have been a pain. We lived in Central london and used buses as well as my own two feet. Good luck!

GrouchyKiwi · 05/12/2021 18:37

I couldn't cope with the weight of a double buggy (I have joint problems) so we used a combination of buggy board and baby carrier. I used a Moby wrap when DD3 was tiny, then a Manduca when she was a bit bigger.
