went to the bank before to take money out to pay council tax, had to go through the signing the slip palava, had both kids with me playing up, then the snotty stupid woman says to me your signature doesn't match (i havnt signed the back of my card) she was holding the slip id just signed up to the computer where they apparently had a pic of my sig i said to her, well sorry about that, dunno why it wouldn't match, then i gave her my official council tax bill with my name and addy as proof but that didn't prove anything apparently, by this time im starting to feel very silly and very angry, the bank was packed and i felt a plonker so i told her im not happy with the level of customer service and i dont like being amde to feel like a criminal whilst withdrawing my own money, i told her i have provided her with ID and she cana sk me any question she wants about the goings on in my account to proove i am who i say i am, anyway she gave in and handed over the cash but i feel very pissed off that ive been made to look a fool infront of a crowed bank, do u think it would be worth me phoning barclays and complaining or am i being OTT.

TBH I would be pleased that my bank was taking an interest in what was going on with my account...

...she could have asked you to give some other details eg other direct debits/standing orders and rough amounts that would prove you are the account holder

OO I hate barclays I bank with them myself, I don't know what sort of training their counter staff get but I think they're making a determined effort to get customers to do all their banking online or over the phone. The only thing stopping me moving is the hassle but I will when I get round to it. I'd complain, you can do it online or write a letter to the branch manager asking what their policy is on verifying ID. They might be doing more checks though because the Gov have lost all our bank details ..

I think YABU - after all she was doing her job properly! I would be thankful she was very thorough, especially since all our details have been lost by the Tax Credits Office and you could have been anybody, IYKWIM?

Onlyaphase · 17/12/2007 16:24

YABU, she was just following protocol.

she was protecting your account and your interests but there are ways of doing this that dont make you (the customer) feel upset and embarassed
