To wonder why do few girls have short hair nowadays

That’s it really. When I was at high school (80s), half the girls had short hair. However, I can only think of one girl my DDs (who have long hair) have known through school who had short hair and she has long hair now. When did short hair fall out of favour?

Last time I had short hair was approx 10-12years ago when I was a teenager and frankie from the saturdays had that short haircut so I went out and copied it. It’s just fashion I guess, the 90s supermodel flicky blowdry look is back in atm hence the long hair.

Yeah, I've noticed it too.

I think it really started in the early 2000s with that long wavy hair that came back into fashion.
Victoria's Secret and Gisele Bundchen - I'm looking at you.

I call it the Three Layers Look where its bra strap length or longer, with three defined long layers and long waves at the front. There can't be a fringe - horrors - no.

It's such a dated look.
It's not the most flattering and it can make some females look........ well...... moosey. Especially women over 35.
But it refuses to die.
And the mens love it, so we'll never be free of it.

I wonder if short hair come into fashion in the 80s because of Princess Diana? Now we have long haired princesses and other (SM) "influencers"

What bollocks about short hair looking bad on fat faces. It's just fashion. DD has short hair (but wants to grow it out)

Incidentally I watched this vid about Harris through the ages, it's great! www.google.com/url?q=m.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DWao0_uB4Zw4&sa=U&ved=2ahUKEwjKmZus18v0AhXIilwKHZZqCmMQtwJ6BAgJEAE&usg=AOvVaw283glGmMi6FqiI5_MGtSs5

In my mother's yearbook, every single girl had short hair. My father thought long hair was unfeminine. Oh how times change.

I don't understand why elderly women all seem to have short, permed "hairdo's" which invariantly meant they could not go outside or be very active as it would get wet or the wind would ruin it etc.

I think short permed hair is incredibly aging and ridiculous high maintenance, restrictive and expensive.

If you compare photos of women in the 40s 50s and 60s etc women in particular looked so much older for their age than they do now

I think you have to have a certain shaped face to pull off a short hair cut and even then those people look better with long hair.

A lot of short hair styles are actually fiddly and a nice short bob is a PITA trying to get the bottom part to curl under

Friends mother has always had quite a short hair cut.

During lockdown because of lack of hairdressers her hair grew and it has wiped 15 years off her age. It has made all her features so much softer.
Everyone including friends dm agrees she looks better with longer hair
The reaction from people seeing her with longer hair has been nothing but positive.

Lockdown didn't help either. I wish I was brave enough for short hair but fear I will look like a potato.

Gender expectations- because men don’t get criticised for their bone structure when they get a fade over the ears.

Because damnit - if you don’t have glorious cheekbones, at least have the decency to have a fluffy mane.

As evidenced in this thread.

Last time I cut my hair super short the neighbourhood gossip said she hoped the cancer got me soon! Hmm

@CountessOlenka

Girls are much fatter these days. You need cheekbones to look good with short hair.

Well that’s some bullshit. But anyway, moving on…
Most of my younger dds friends have short hair. Most of my older dds friends have longer hair.

Because most females look shit with short hair

Aren't you a charmer - and your comment is a load of rubbish!

I have short hair and can go a week or more without washing it - I don't need to tie it up. I never brush it, I never do anything with it. So, so easy!

Because short hair requires regular visits to the hairdressers to maintain a style, which I always hated. So boring.

With long hair I visited the hairdressers max twice a year.

Unfortunately now that I'm covering grey hair it's four times a year - boooo.

I blame it all on Victoria Beckham and the Kardashian people.
Trend setters through the years. Dog help us.
Who cares as long as the young people are happy with how they look.
That's the concern.

Because they get to decide.

No one chose to have crappy short hair cuts in the 70s and 80s that was decided by the parents and clearly dreadful hairdressers

Utter bollocks! I decided how I wanted my hair past the age of about 5. Can you not grasp the fact that as long hair is "in fashion" now, then short hair was in those days.

cheekbones may look more defined on those who are slimmer but a good bone structure is to with shape of your face not size of your body. So i'm not sure that makes sense.

I have this hair naturally & was so happy when it came into fashion as I always wanted dead straight 90s hair but my wave is quite stubborn. At school I used to get teased a bit if I ever wore my hair down as it ms quite big. It was quite weird to then see lots of people with the same hair 😆

I can't remember the last time the females in my house went to the hairdressers.
Long hair has saved us a fortune.

I still have this hair now but I'm low maintenance & like to wash & go. Occasionally I add a fringe but it annoys me as I have to straighten/tame it. I had bobs when younger but I looked like a mushroom! Plus my hair grows very fast so cheaper to have it long.

My 10 year old grew her hair from pixie length after she started school. She was laughed at, told that only boys have short hair and asked several times why she wanted to look like a boy.
