To think celebs that go on I’m a Celebrity are pathetic and desperate?

Would you go on it and have bugs dumped over you and have to drink cow testicles cocktails and munch on bulls anuses if your career was on the downwards path? AIBU to think they have no dignity, especially now when it’s been on for 20 years and it’s desperately sad and laughable?

@EightWheelGirl

It should be called ‘I’m Not a Celebrity Anymore, Get Me In Here’.
Brilliant Grin.
LINABE · 05/12/2021 07:12

@wolfstarling

I don't like how they mess around with all the animals and insects. It really is the pits.
Agree.
Lollipop999 · 05/12/2021 07:22

I agree that it is boring this year, but I did enjoy it last year. Maybe the mix of camp mates was better.

I feel that they are too focussed on raising their profile now and because of that they put on an act and aren’t fully themselves. So it all feels a bit fake.

It was more entertaining when they got on each other’s nerves and when they were a bit hangry!

I’m sure it used to be much tougher too, the camp was much more basic and they used to have to chop wood and make a fire etc?

itsgettingwierd · 05/12/2021 07:33

@Sparklingbrook

I don’t think you could call an Olympic gold winning diver pathetic and desperate. Confused He probably just fancied doing something different.
That's what I was thinking!

I haven't watched this series for various reasons but I do know some of the celebs on there are hardworking Olympians and the music producer who's very successful and a career for his mum.

Lots of them are in the height of their careers rather than the end.

But I do agree it's lost something. I think it's the fact that after a few decades it's predictable. The eating trials are no longer a surprise, or the night in a room with bugs etc.

Exhausteddog · 05/12/2021 07:41

The only people who I can think had a career boost from it are Katie Price, Peter Andre and Kerry Katona and that was YEARS ago

Great career boost for Phil Tufnell and Harry Rednapp,
There must be others too.

I'm pretty sure it got Mylene Klass back in the public eye after lots of bikini shots
Also I'd never heard of Joel Dommet before he was on it, now he presents The Masked Singer.
Toff and Stanley Johnson have done other spin off programmes together.
I'm not sure that Richard Madeley needed more publicity or money but he said he wanted the psychological challenge. although none of them admit to being desperate for publicity or money
I think its interesting to find out what people are like, out of their comfort zone. Some come across really well and others you see a different side to them.

The thing i find slightly Hmm is when celebs complain/appear surprised at the food/conditions/trials. The programmes been on for about 20 years, there is plenty of scope for research!!

TopTabby · 05/12/2021 07:48

It is very dull now. There's always a couple of celebs that know exactly what they're doing to get the camera time & it all seems very fake now.
I don't mind Ant & Dec but I can't stand the way ITV think we must have this program on every year, no matter what.
It's definitely not what it was, the trials are all the same & seem to involve huge amounts of offal which just seems revolting & not 'fun' at all. I can't see ITV coming up with anything new though, same time next year then?

HunterHearstHelmsley · 05/12/2021 07:50

I read an interview with one of this years contestants. He has been paid enough that he can take a year off with his wife and young child. That's not desperate.

WellyBobs123 · 05/12/2021 07:51

I love it. I love the trials, love ant and dec, the celebs are a bit boring this year but other than that it's great!

Who is that?

Who is that?

Danny Miller

I think it can be hard to be an actor/ entertainer/ celebrity and live up to the expectations of others. It is easy for people outside the industry to feel that they should only take on work that is “worthy” but it can be a tough career with peaks and troughs so big money/big exposure jobs can be tempting.
Also they’ll all have been courted by a team of producers that will tell them how popular they’ll be - it’s a great in at ITV if your popular with audiences.
And, I believe, this series was meant to be in Australia so many of these would have originally had a 7* paid for trip to Australia as part of their deal…
So I don’t think it’s fair to call anyone on it pathetic & desperate. It’s a bit more nuanced than that.

Agree. Like pp have said sport is a pretty shortlived career and not always well paid so I'm not surprised there are a couple of Olympic contestants. Even for Adam Woodyatt and Simon Gregson who have been in their respective soaps for decades, if they want to move onto something else, they need people to know them rather than their character.

MrsTophamHat · 05/12/2021 08:27

Jordan North got promoted from weekends and occasional stand in, to Radio 1 Drive Time after I'm a Celeb. His profile increased a lot

Isthatthebestyoucando · 05/12/2021 08:34

@readwhatiactuallysay

I always find it strange that people who sit behind a computer calling other people names, find people who are going out trying to earn a living and getting on with their lives....pathetic.

They may not be your cup of tea, or they may be in a desperate situation so need to earn money for themselves and their families, i find neither pathetic.

Do you think people with full lives never sit behind a computer? Do you think these ‘celebs’ don’t have social media and don’t give their opinions on things? I think all reality TV has had its day, I find the contestants boring and they acting annoying, I agree about the animal cruelty in IAC.
WeasilyPleased · 05/12/2021 08:54

Yes but...yes but... David Ginola ❤
Shoot me for being shallow but watching him every night is entertainment to me. 😂

thesockfromtheroof · 05/12/2021 08:56

Yep. Also sick of seeing Ant and Dec everywhere.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 05/12/2021 09:05

@LagunaBubbles

Who is that?

Danny Miller

Thank you! I couldn't remember his name and didn't want to say "Aaron from Emmerdale" 🤣
traka · 05/12/2021 09:15

The word "celebrity" is used very loosely on these type of shows

I always see the people on them as washed up and desperate. If there was ten people I'd usually recognise 1-2/10

santasmuma · 05/12/2021 09:17

@SoniaFouler

It's not just about a career boost though. It's a paid job right now, and a well paid job at that.

DillDanding · 05/12/2021 09:19

I stopped watching it at least five years ago.

I find it incredibly dull. I like Ant and Dec, but not enough to watch this drivel.

tttigress · 05/12/2021 09:20

I think it depends on how much I needed the money.

justaskingagain · 05/12/2021 09:21

@WellyBobs123

👆🏼This! Celebs are dull as ditchwater this year but Ant & Dec are on top form. If you don't like it, don't watch it - it's not like we're short of channels these days!
LuckyAmy1986 · 05/12/2021 09:23

Yeah sorry but if I was getting paid what they are, I would go in in a heartbeat!

PiggyPlumPie · 05/12/2021 09:24

I'm with you!
Bluntness100 · 05/12/2021 09:24

I don’t think they are desperate and pathetic no, I’m not sure why yoire being so vitriolic? It’s just a tv show.

I quite like it, it often makes me laugh, and it’s interesting to see human nature play out and real personalities of the celebs, but this year they kinda lost me with Richard leaving them going off air for a couple of days, I seem to have lost interest.
