To remind people that the Sunflower Lanyard is for Hidden Disabilities, not a Mask Exemption excuse for anti-maskers.

Just wanted to remind people that the Sunflower Lanyard is there to let people know that the person wearing it has a hidden disability.

The scheme has been around longer than Covid, and buying one to wear purely because you don't WANT to wear a mask makes you a complete -insert offensive word here-

Thank you.

(obviously if you have a hidden disability/legitimate reason to be wearing one for mask exemption, i'm not talking about you)

It's optional here as people or more individualistic and less societal. Plus we have a fear of authoritarian leaders. It's a massive tightrope for leaders to walk on, and whatever they do there will be people saying they are too relaxed or too controlling. The government are relying on 'peer pressure' as much as possible rather than mandates.
Leaders don’t have to walk a tightrope, and as for peer pressure, in what way is the almost constantly maskless prime minister promoting a peer pressure approach?
I hate the Tories and I loathed Thatcher but my god she would have had this organised in minutes and nobody would have queried her decisions.

I can’t always wear a mask.

I use a lanyard with a card saying I am exempt so that people don’t challenge me.

Is that wrong of me since it’s for hidden disabilities?

Billandben444 · 06/12/2021 07:03

@Skyll
I'm sorry that you struggle with a mask and hope people have been kind about it. Out of interest, does this mean you won't be able to travel to France or Spain where it's 100% mandatory in indoor public areas?

Skyll · 06/12/2021 07:05

Yes it does @Billandben444 if they don’t have an exemption. And I’m ok with that. My disability is such at the moment that I couldn’t travel anyway.

Skyll · 06/12/2021 07:10

@Billandben444 I’m not sure exactly what your point to me is? I never mentioned travelling abroad? What makes you think I’m considering that? I’ve no idea of the rules in France or Spain I’ve not looked into it (because I’m not intending to travel).

People haven’t always been kind but I’m not unique in that experience?

Noeuf · 06/12/2021 09:00

The government have issued cards and phone ‘badges’ people can use - I do think it’s a shame that instead the lanyard has been hijacked for general self declared exemptions but what can you do.

Do you have more information about this? Thank you.

@Skyll
I wasn't making a point at all but asking a genuine question. The first part of my post to you was supportive which should have given you a clue that I wasn't having a pop. There's no need to be so defensive.

Skyll · 06/12/2021 12:08

I was just surprised you seemed to think I’d be going to France or Spain?

And I said I was ok with that? Ok that I couldn’t travel if there’s no exception?
