Would you date a binman?

Inspired by another thread about being a binman as a career.

You meet a guy on a night out or OLD. Seems nice enough and nice looking, all good. Tells you he's a binman.

YABU - immediate turn off
YANBU - give him a chance

@MysteriousMonkey

My dad became a bin man when I was little so he could be home to look after me after school as my mum was working. Nothing but respect for that. Also where I live the bin men finish when they're done which means they can often work short hours and get paid the same. I keep looking for a vacancy for DH but unsurprisingly there aren't any.

Wonderful father!!!

@Binfairy

I'm a binwoman, in that I work in local government waste services. My boyfriend is an ICU consultant and is very supportive of my career. Most of the male managers I work with started out as bin men and worked up and now earn very good salaries with excellent local government pensions. Drivers have HGV licences so are in demand and many do winter gritting as well. I started as a litter warden, did technical qualifications, an MBA part time and became a Chartered Waste Manager. I am proud to be part of a vital industry, worked right through the pandemic and am very happy in my job. It's actually incredibly interesting and has a strong environmental dimension. I am sadly not surprised by some of the attitudes on this thread. In the city where I work, our crews do a compressed four day week and there are plenty of opportunities for advancement. I've met office workers with worse BO than most of the crews I know. If my son or daughter wanted to enter our industry I'd be proud.

I absolutely love this.

Have always been fascinated by the waste industry and the insight it has into our society.

DoucheCanoe · 03/12/2021 02:08

Yes.

I'm married to a refuse worker :)

Mermaidwaves · 03/12/2021 04:26

I reckon all the binmen will be really confused at the next rubbish collection as to loads of mumnsnetters standing outside checking them out! Grin

gofg · 03/12/2021 04:29

I couldnt - the smell when they returned home isn't something I could cope with. I close the windows when I hear the truck coming so couldn't imagine having someone come into my house that smelt like that. I know I'm an awful person for saying this

Yes, you are an awful person. I worked at our local Resource Recovery Park for a while, and had tea/lunch beaks with binmen. They didn't smell at all - and even if they did it wouldn't have worried me. Have you never heard of showers or baths?

I would much rather date a binman than someone with an attitude like yours.

Panacotta · 03/12/2021 07:44

@Gearedtoyou

Is it just me who's come over all uncessesary at the thought of a nice bin man? Grin
🤣
Panacotta · 03/12/2021 07:45

@Hillarious

They are incredibly fit.

They finish work early enough to do school pick ups.

👍👍👍

@Kendoddsdadsdogsdadsdead

Binman yes. Tory no.
Agree! 🤣
Thisbastardcomputer · 03/12/2021 07:58

Slightly off topic.

Anyone remember the pre wheely bin era.

Smaller metal bins, the men would collect and carry on their shoulders from your property to the lorry and most had a woodbine in their mouth at the same time lol.

@NowEvenBetter

What in the Tinkly-Laugh,Head-Tilt screeching wannabe ‘middle class’ shit is this?

I’ve got all of them on my Ring doorbel 😂😂😂
Lavender24 · 03/12/2021 10:02

Of course! As long as he had a shower after work lol (tbf I get a shower after work and I work in an office).

SapphosRock · 03/12/2021 10:27

No but only because I'm a lesbian.

I'd be happy to date a bin woman but you don't come across them so often.

XJerseyGirlX · 03/12/2021 10:37

I agree with kippersfortea. I would rather date a bin man than a lot of other jobs. Takes some doing to get up early for a physical job everyday.

LadyPenelope68 · 03/12/2021 10:40

Sorry, not sure why this is even a question. To be honest, if you’re posting this in a forum, don’t even go out with him, let him find someone else he deserves, who isn’t so shallow.

And you get a round of applause from me. (sorry, can't post emojis - fuck you windows 7).

@HailAdrian

I'd actually rather date a binman than a rich/famous celebrity. In fact, if I ever find myself single again, I will actively seek out binmen for the reasons mentioned on this thread.
@HailAdrian you don’t need to seek too much- just make sure you’re kerbside before 7:30 on Friday Wink

And make sure you wear a little number made out of recycled cardboard.

5128gap · 03/12/2021 12:51

If my bin men are anything to go by (young, fit and above average looking) im willing to bet a lot of those turning their noses up wouldn't stand a chance in hell with them anyway.

idontlikealdi · 03/12/2021 14:02

Bin men get paid very very well here. And they're all cute 😉

CandyLeBonBon · 03/12/2021 15:56

"Where there's muck there's brass lass. Now't wrong wit' rubbish"

Daphnise · 03/12/2021 16:15

I think maybe you need to get the idea that he might be as judgemental about your job, as you seem to be about his.

As for the rather patronising "Give him a chance"- it's also him that has to give you a chance.

I take it you moan if your bins aren't emptied....?

OnTheBoardwalk · 03/12/2021 16:18

All the people who know bin people and the bin people on this thread can I ask a question please?

Does the pay reflect the colour bin you collect? I’ve always felt the general waste wheelie bin collectors should get more than the paper wheelie bin collectors

Megan1992xx · 03/12/2021 16:27

If he was good looking and I fancied him of course.
