What has your energy bill increased to? ☹️🤬

OhPeeQueue · 02/12/2021 07:01

Received an email last night that my energy bill was increasing. Gas-£109 a month. Electric-£79 a month. To think we were only paying around £120 a month a year or two ago, they’ve steadily increased the price.

I was working 2 jobs up until a few months ago and stopped due to stress. Wish I hadn’t now. ☹️.

Ours went up £19 to £132 a month, seemed fair enough as prices are up
@AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair

are you saying your paying 4p per kWh for electricity? I find that very hard to believe.

and @poshme

we pay 24p a day standing charge for electricity.

I can't believe you're paying 4p for electricity- surely that's gas?

As @ThatsMySantaHisBeardIsSoFluffy said - That 4p a kWh is for gas. And as I said it's in addition to a 24.12p a day standing charge.

I didn't mention electricity.
But you replied to a poster who was quoting her electricity tariff by saying yours was 4p how were we meant to know you were talking about gas Confused

DrierThanANunsNasty · 02/12/2021 21:41

£40 a month to £150 (combined) as our supplier went bust and been moved onto EDF. They didn’t even write to us and let us know it had gone up, only noticed the direct debit yesterday!

Feelingpoorlysick · 02/12/2021 21:42

Ours has gone up 50%. Was 120 a month, now 180. We have quite a big house to heat but we are already careful with usage. I'm not sure how else we are expected to cut down.

@dementedpixie

Is anyone with Octopus on the SVR?

My fixed is:
Elec - 16.10p/kWh, 21.17p/day standing charge
GAS - 3p/kWh 17.85p/day standing charge

My rates end on 22nd January

We with octopus

Electricity is 19.51kwph and a daily standing charge of 22.96p

Gas is 3.93kwph and a daily standing charge of 24.78p

On Avro we were

16.5kwph and daily standing charge of 17p for elec and 2.9kpwph and a daily standing charge of 17p for gas

And that's this month. Could go higher next month

gamerchick · 02/12/2021 21:47

@Bingbong21

Mine has some how decreased to £39 a month and EDF won't review until June despite being based on an incorrect reading and receiving the correct one Confused
Triple it and put the extra away and don't touch it. When they triple your bill you can ring them and pay the excess off so you get a decent DD amount.
sHREDDIES19 · 02/12/2021 21:54

I’m not sure how but Octopus are keeping ours at the same amount it was with AVRO. It’s £45 p/m dual fuel. We do live in a newish house so it’s well insulated but I’m still shocked in a very good way.

Screwcorona · 02/12/2021 21:54

Wow that's awful. Mine was about 65 a month last year and is about 72 this year. We barely use any gas though, like 5quid in summer and 15 over winter. I don't really understand how the gas can be so high on yours though, I have the heating on a lot and cook on the hob most nights

GetTheFlockOutOfHere · 02/12/2021 21:55
@GetTheFlockOutOfHere, you replied to a post about electricity unit prices, giving your gas unit price. That's where the confusion came from.
Oh did I?! I am sorry then folks, if my post caused confusion! Blush

Remoska table top cooker sold by Lakeland.Very easy to use low energy. We have the large one and were gifted the smaller one.Great baked potatoes, chicken even cakes,Very low running costs.Only use the electric oven when cooking large meals now.3 bed house on 3 floors listed but renovated combined British Gas £87 a month.Electric overblanket,Electric throw on sofa.New combination gas boiler with thermostats controlled by IPad.

GreenOwl · 02/12/2021 22:05

Our gas and electricity went from £47pm to £54pm with British Gas. They think I'm in credit but I need to take and submit meter readings to check that.

GetTheFlockOutOfHere · 02/12/2021 22:05

@blueberryporridge

Just had an email today from Octopus wanting us to increase our monthly direct debit from £169 to £315 (which I have done because I don't think we have any choice). We have a draughty large Victorian semi, and both work home. Have been freezing for the past week - only four more months to go!

We have insulated as much of the house as we can, and our boiler is also fairly new and the plumber tells us that it is efficient. We are pretty sparing with central heating - it was off for months over the summer and are just starting to have it for more than three hours a day the last couple of weeks.

They asked us to reduce our DD from £235 to £169 a while ago, but obviously this has been too low as we are now owing them money.

We are on the Octopus Flexible rate which is
Electricity - 19.28p/kwh, standing charge 26.09 p per day
Gas - 3.6p/kwh, standing charge 22.71p per day.

The latest bill assures me that we are on their cheapest rate for both gas and electricity. We switched to this rate in October 2020, I think.

£315 a month! Shock

That's horrific!

OverByYer · 02/12/2021 22:05

My DD is £113 pcm. 4 bed detached house.
I noticed though my gas alone for last month was £100 so am expecting it to increase imminently

LuneyTunes · 02/12/2021 22:06

£55 to £80. We are fairly frugal with what we use gas-wise though

Madcats · 02/12/2021 22:27

Our (smallish) energy supplier went into administration a few months ago.

We keep regular meter readings etc and, based on last year, we'll be paying £600 more. We were paying £104/month in the summer and £160/month in the winter. So that is about 30% more!

What annoys me is that our energy co used to boast that they hedged (bought a lot of our planned energy usage) in advance.

We're wearing jumpers (which is probably no bad thing).

PiesNotGuys · 02/12/2021 22:41

£314 a month here

It was £96

GrealishHairband · 02/12/2021 22:54

Shock A similar type of increase would see my bill nigh on £400 pcm!! Not knowing is giving me serious anxiety.
Alice0606 · 02/12/2021 23:18

We were paying Utility Point

Electricity
Standing charge 20.864p/day
12.597p/kWh

Gas
Standing charge 20.642p/day
2.213p/kWh

Now we’re with EDF and our new tariff is

Electricity
Standing charge 24.11p/day
20.68p/kWh

Gas
Standing charge 26.12p/day
4.169p/kWh

So our bills will be increasing by about 80% 😭

However, despite EDF emailing to tell us they’ve taken over, our online account shows no bills, no payments and no meter readings (smart meter, so should be automatic). It won’t even let me enter a manual reading. I’m not sure how long to give them to sort themselves out before I start trying to contact them.

Notonthenewrug · 02/12/2021 23:44

Mine has increased but I'm confused! I'm on a fixed rate but my gas has increased by £70 a month!! I thought fixed rate meant it stayed the same for that period?

Alice0606 · 03/12/2021 00:00

I’m sure there must be sooooo many better ways of billing for energy than the insanely complicated and confusing way we do things here!

Being on a fixed rate means that the amount you pay per unit of energy will stay the same for the duration of your fix. If the weather is cold and you have your heating on more, you’ll use more energy and therefore pay more in total.

Took EDF 6 months to sort my account when I was forcibly transferred after GNE going pop! I saved money each month so I was able to pay the bill I finally got after that long wait.
StarfishDish · 03/12/2021 06:18

Ours has gone from £102 a month to £147 a month! There is no help unless you're on benefits so we now have to minimise the time the heating is on and wrap our 10 month old daughter up in layers so she doesn't freeze! Sad

Your price per unit is fixed, not the direct debit amount. If you use more gas/electric then your monthly payment can rise to cover it if what you currently pay is not enough. Check if you are in credit or debit on your account
OhPeeQueue · 03/12/2021 06:55

@mogsrus do you install it yourself or do you have to get a corgi person (dunno name) to fit it? Also please send me auction site. Not sure I can spend £300+ for something like that yet. Thanks
