Got no electricity since Friday evening.
Very cold and dc and myself have decamped to PIL to get warm and so I can work.

I was in your position a few years ago, we were without gas for a week and electric for a couple of days. It was hell on earth. If someone had pulled that joke on me they would no longer be living, you are a better person than me to actually be able to laugh about it.

Hope you get electric back quickly.

The thing is that OP didn't know it was a joke until she received the last line. If you look at the time stamps, there's three minutes between her reply and the 'punchline'. Plenty of time for her to tell MIL that the electricity (a reasonable assumption) was back on. Then she has to say that no it isn't.

Maybe with hindsight she could have told MIL that DH was joking without actually showing her the message, but that's down to their relationship. The DH shouldn't have been such a twat as to try to make a joke out of something that is making life very difficult.

It's not the word erection, it's the fact that you shared with your mother-in-law the details of your sex life, that your husband finds it unsatisfying, that he is sexually frustrated, and that she then told him off for it. That's bloody weird.

It's weird that you feel qualified to make judgments on the dynamic of someone else's family.

I mean it's weird that she posted it on a public forum and asked if her reaction was inappropriate.

But since she did do that, I don't think there's anything remotely weird about answering her question, or commenting on the conversation she weirdly chose to make public.

In case anyone has missed the news there are still 1000's of homes without electricity in the north!!

DP graciously agreed to stay at home for o look after our animals plus his work is miles away from in laws house.

He is a good egg but agree in reflection maybe talking about his knob and lack of sex maybe an issue in our relationship.

I wasn't raging by the way!! Again it was meant to be light hearted

I think I'd tell him that that was so naff it had killed my libido stone dead for the foreseeable future, so he'd have to think of another use for his erection. Maybe drying the laundry?

I thought it was funny, as was your reply. I also worked in sexual health and don't get worked up about stuff like this. My MIL would have clutched her pearls and knee length bloomers at this and assumed I was an unfit wife who deliberately with held sex from her deprived son. I'd have stayed in my cold house over her ice cold hearted house any day.

DH and his mate put a shed up recently. We got so much milage out of how their erection was going, how long it took, it was smaller than expected, should we put it round the back or round the front. Bloody childish but funny all the same!

The only person who has described themselves as raging or outraged is the op.

Think others are just a bit dubious about sharing intimate details of your inadequate sex life with your mother-in-law.
