His dad is giving me grief about it.
Ds birthday is Christmas day so combined I've spent £900 plus a holiday costing £1100 as a special 21st treat going on the 2nd of January.
Aibu his dad is giving me a hard time.

It depends on how wealthy you are?
If you earn millions then it s pretty lame?
If this is your monthly income then maybe its too much.

@daisypond

17 yes, as they could then start learning to drive and then of course, 18.

Never heard of anyone celebrating 17. I don’t know anyone who starts learning to drive age 17 now. And there’s no “of course” about 18.

We clearly know very different teens. I would say 75% of the teens I know started learning to drive at 17, and virtually 100% of them and their parents made their 18th birthdays a bit special.

My DD got driving lessons for her 17th, and bought herself a little banger with her birthday money. When she passed her test, she got an advance on her 18th birthday money from me and her stepdad, and bought herself a slightly better little banger!

OP, i think you're trying to do something nice for your DS for his birthday and its lovely that he wants to go on holiday with you. It doesn't sound like the money is too much for you, so just go and enjoy it. I'd buy him a new wallet and a selection box for Christmas, if you're desperate to give him something to unwrap!
