@Jourdain11

Oh God, I do this all the time! It never occurred to me that people would think I was being pretentious, or a bitch. And I do it in writing as well as in speech... I need to recondition myself, no?

I picked this up from a close relative whose first language was Spanish

Can't stand it.
I think best strategy is to answer evert single time with one word: 'No.'

Jourdain11 · 02/12/2021 00:16

To be fair, I am actually French and it is used in French a lot.

There are some things which are just hard to get rid of!

What are peoples views on 'thoughts?' At the end of a sentence? I find that really bloody annoying!

It’s redundant because if you ask me something of course I will formulate the answer from my thoughts! Similar to ‘discuss.’ If we are about to have a conversation based on your question we’re already going to discuss. I don’t need you to instruct me.

Most of my family are in France and they do it often.
I’ve never heard an English person saying it.

In Cornwall we have our own version, ‘or no?’ As in ‘do ee wanna pasty or no?’ Grin
