DH says it looks fine but I think it looks silly without!

Wicker or metal skirt all the way. No to fabric

DappledThings · 28/11/2021 19:47

Presents don't go under our tree until the kids are in bed on Christmas Eve!
I never knew some people did it this way till I was on MN. Ours go under the tree in dribs and drabs, whenever they are ready and wrapped.

I don't think I know anyone in RL that puts presents under their tree before Christmas Eve unless it's a home of just adults! Every effort is made to make sure kids in the family don't see presents until the big day!

Yes and I'm looking for a Harry Potter themed tree skirt that doesn't need a small mortgage to buy

HeyFloof · 28/11/2021 20:31

I just have a cream fluffy blanket, folded in half, zhuzhed up and arranged all nicely. It hides all the wires and plugs.

Presents don't go underneath it unless they're to be given away or someone gives it directly to DS.

Never heard of them till now. Googled them and they don't appeal to me.

Oh I've definitely been more aware of doing this way since social media but as a child I dont remember anyone ever talking about this coming down on Christmas morning and seeing all the presents. Xmas Eve is for leaving put stockings and mince pie etc for FC and seeing what was in them in the morning. Everything else was from whoever it was from so no reason to hide it.

Fortunately DH had exactly the same experience so no arguments between us about the right way to do it for our DC!

Wicker skirt here and it's lovely. No presents go under it until Christmas Eve because they're in the way and because of the dog.

lazylinguist · 28/11/2021 20:40

We've always put the presents under the tree in advance. Unless it's a bicycle or a football or something it's not as if they are going to guess what it is!

But walking into the room Christmas morning to all the presents under the tree after going to bed with none there was just the best bit about it when I was young! I love watching my DC have the same feeling now.

I got one for the first time last year and like it. However, once you fill it with presents you can’t see the skirt anyway!

yorkshiremum2022 · 28/11/2021 20:57

Yes, it's finished it off for us. We have a greyish wicker one from Next.

Crinkle77 · 28/11/2021 23:26

A tree skirt? Do you mean a bucket of soil with wrapping paper wrapped round it?
