Does your tree wear a skirt?

DH says it looks fine but I think it looks silly without!

OP posts:
Redglitter · 28/11/2021 18:17

Definitely not. I think they look odd

nannybeach · 28/11/2021 18:18

No,a plant pot

DoctorSnortles · 28/11/2021 18:29

No. I think They are ridiculous.

They remind me of those possibly apocryphal stories of Victorians covering up table legs and piano legs in case they caused improper thoughts.

We (will) have a real tree at Christmas (not in November), which has a trunk that doesn't need hiding as it's a part of the tree and a green, metal stand which is aesthetically pleasing. The eye is drawn to all the twinkly shit on the tree anyway, so even if a flash of bare trunk is enough to make you reach for your smelling salts you probably won't notice it anyway.

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 28/11/2021 18:30

Nope

SilverGlassHare · 28/11/2021 18:35

This has prompted me to buy one from Amazon. Usually we have the tree stand on around cotton cloth (usually the base of DS’s teepee!) as we have hard floors and we decorate the tree out in the middle of the room the way sliiiiide it into the corner if the room but now we shall also have a festive snowflake tree skirt (£7 from Amazon so not expecting much there)..

OliveHenry · 28/11/2021 18:38

I like the wicker ones, but don't have room to store one.

So mine has a gold damask-y fabric skirt (bought fairly cheaply from TK Maxx).

Peanutmnm · 28/11/2021 18:41

I had a sexy tree for a fair few years but now I make her wear a skirt. Its just improper not to .

BackBackBack · 28/11/2021 18:48

No, I don't like them. DH always saws the trunk quite short so the lower branches hide most of it. Our stand is a dark colour and it sits on a black blanket (dark floor) so you don't really notice it anyway.

PinkiOcelot · 28/11/2021 18:51

No. I think they look naff.

DramaAlpaca · 28/11/2021 18:53

My tree will be wearing a wicker skirt this year for the first time.

I bought it a few months ago in M&S, then sod's law Aldi had them last week at less than half the price so it'd better fit and look good.

StormyCornishSeas · 28/11/2021 18:55

@LoveGrooveDanceParty

By the time all the presents are piled up, surely you can’t see any sort of skirt anyway?
In the Stormy house presents are only really under the tree for 3 days out of 3 weeks or so. So it looks quite bear for the rest of the time
speakout · 28/11/2021 18:55

I just use a dark greet piece of fabric and drape around.

NoKandoo · 28/11/2021 18:55

Good God.

I expect you all have frilly covers on your loo rolls, too.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 28/11/2021 18:56

@saoirse31

Never! Traditionalists here, trees don't wear skirts or any clothing, and the presents are piled around and under treeGrin
Presents don't go under our tree until the kids are in bed on Christmas Eve!
lazylinguist · 28/11/2021 18:57

Nope, I think they look daft. I don't mind the look of the stand, and anyway you can't see it once the presents are there.

lazylinguist · 28/11/2021 18:58

Our presents go under the tree about a week before Christmas.

Cacee3029 · 28/11/2021 18:58

No it doesn't but it's in the corner of the room and we have some of those led light up presents under it so you cannot see the bottom of three behind them. If we didn't have the light up presents we probably would have a skirt. I think it depends on the bottom of the tree too and how nice the legs look!

KatherineJaneway · 28/11/2021 18:59

@LoveGrooveDanceParty

WTF is a tree skirt?
Exactly
MarieVanGoethem · 28/11/2021 19:15

If it’s any help @reluctantbrit, I’ve lived here all my 30-something years & I’d never heard of the things. Upon enlightenment, they sound so absurd that in another context I’d think someone was pulling my leg asking about them…

@DoctorSnortles it is indeed apocryphal but it absolutely conjures the image of Victorian families hopping on the trend for the new-fangled Christmas Tree & a tree skirt industry springing up as they realised there was arboreal nudity happening in their very homes! (How the myth came about is quite interesting - do wonder how far around the world that particular lie would’ve run if a certain Mr Dickens hadn’t got involved: which, let’s face it, was basically like tying the truth’s bootlaces together & giving it a kick in the shins for good measure.)

LoveGrooveDanceParty · 28/11/2021 19:16

@NoKandoo

Good God.

I expect you all have frilly covers on your loo rolls, too.

I must admit, I’m jumping to that conclusion, too.
NotMeNoNo · 28/11/2021 19:20

It has a piece of Hessian tied with a ribbon, that covers up the plastic water holder thing without looking too Victorian. Can't remember where I got it but I like the look.

RainbowBabyForChristmasPlease · 28/11/2021 19:22

Mines wedged into a fake log. Does that count?!

BowledOverly · 28/11/2021 19:23

No but mine has its knickers round it’s ankles Grin

(Aka tinsel around the stand)

LookItsMeAgain · 28/11/2021 19:24

Yes , it does now.

I didn't have a tree skirt when I was younger and the Christmas tree was the one in my childhood home.

I prefer it with a skirt than without.

oviraptor21 · 28/11/2021 19:24

No skirt. It sits in a green plastic tree holder which blends in with the tree itself. No need for a skirt which detracts from the tree decorations by drawing the eye down.
