I covet one but I am a sucker for hype.

The hotel chocolat one is made by Dualit , had one that went faulty and was directed to them as the manufacturer for troubleshooting brilliant customer service Had a look at the Dualit frother in JL, half the price in a less shiny jacket.

ElftonWednesday · 28/11/2021 21:24

I can make nice hot chocolate with the milk frother on my coffee machine. Might try getting some chocolate flakes or grating dark chocolate though instead of using powder.

absolutelyknackeredcow · 28/11/2021 21:27

I am hoping it's really good
I sent a link to my husband on Black
Friday 🤞🏼I drink hot chocolate a lot during autumn winter months

Borrasca · 28/11/2021 21:37

Love mine, and happy for the kids to use it as it doesn't boil. Extremely easy to clean as well, which is amazing. I started using the HC sachets, but wasn't a fan so i now use Clipper hot chocolate powder with milk and a glug of double cream - it's delicious!

partystress · 28/11/2021 22:00

Another vote for the Chocolate Society shaker. You can do whatever temperature you want, really quick, cinch to clean because it’s basically just a beaker. Works with any chocolate - powder, flakes, grated, or the completely delicious little beans that they also sell.

NoraNik · 28/11/2021 22:04

Super easy. Couldn’t be easier.

Snooptheboot · 28/11/2021 22:07

I bought the Aldi version today and I’m already in love. Only £20 as well!

bruffin · 28/11/2021 22:09

ive just made hotel chocolate ginger hot chocolate in a morphy richards milk frother and its lovely

MiddayMass · 28/11/2021 22:19

I’ve got one unopened in the attic for my 19 year-old DD’s Christmas present. She was going on about it the other week, saying she had tried it at her friend’s house and that it was amazing.

Reading all of this with curiosity. I’m dying to try it. I hate power hot chocolate, it’s vile. I have to melt a Cadbury bar in to hot milk but that’s too indulgent.

BeaLola · 28/11/2021 23:48

We bought one for DH for Christmas 2019 - he was a bit meh (but then he doesn't do presents) but both he and DS love it and they use it loads - I don't really like hot chocolate

I would say I use it loads to make drinks for them - super easy , not too hot and very easy to clean

We buy 5kg chocolate flakes from Pendragon online

If it broke DH would certainly replace it

StripyHorse · 28/11/2021 23:57

@Honeyroar

You could just buy a coffee machine like this for a little more money- then you’d be able to have fantastic hot chocolates and coffees..
We've got an espresso machine and I use the milk frother to make hot chocolates.

The only downside (and I don't know how this compares to the velvetiser) is you can only really make one at a time. If everyone wants one it takes ages!

Obviously, if you don't like coffee, an espresso machine isn't much good.

MiddayMass · 29/11/2021 00:43

I did always wonder why people don’t just get a general hot drinks machine but I suppose there is definitely a market for those who don’t drink coffee but want hot chocolate. 19 year old DD is in this category and I’m sure she’ll love her Christmas present, she definitely was hinting she wanted a velvetiser. Hopefully she’ll let me use it for her brothers kids when they visit as they can drink the stuff by the litre.

ChessieFL · 29/11/2021 08:11

That is me MiddayMass - I don’t drink coffee at all so a coffee machine is wasted on us!

IARTNS · 29/11/2021 09:18

I've made hot chocolate using the milk steamer on my coffee machine and it doesn't compare to the HC machine.

Rainbowshit · 29/11/2021 09:32

Bought one last Christmas for the kids hoping it would mean and end to the mess they made making hot chocolate.

God I love it. The hot chocolate is amazing. It's so easy to clean and has meant an end to the mess all over the microwave we had previously.

Aiglenotsuperior · 29/11/2021 10:17

I’ve also been wondering this so interesting to see the replies.

However, why on Earth are people heating milk in a pan? Put it in the mug you’re going to drink out of and whack it in the microwave for 2 mins, voila, hot milk? Put a few teaspoons of your hot chocolate in and give it a good stir with a spoon, add cream/ marshmallows if you wish! No way have I ever faffed about heating milk on the hob? No wonder so many people are paying out for velvetisers!

UniBallEye · 29/11/2021 10:22

We got teen dd one last Christmas and she loves it. It gets used a lot and when her friends are over they all love it.

We used to make hot chocolate by heating milk and melting actual chocolate (or those cubes on sticks) but the velevtizer is FAR better.

Dh and I will often indulge in one too even though we are usually more coffee drinkers. He loves the flavoured one, chilli, ginger, mint so we buy a selection box for him, dd loves the white chocolate and the salted caramel so she gets boxes of them and I like the classic or dark.

It's a total doddle to clean, we've never had an issue with it, as soon as we're finished using it, we take the whisk out and swish it in hot soapy water, then rinse it. We swirl hot soapy water around the chamber and dry it off. We've never once had streaks nor had to scrub it etc but we really only use the hot chocolat sachets and have never used powder. I have read that this can clump in it a bit.

I though it might have been a bit of a fad but a year later it's still going strong. We got the copper one and we have it beside the kettle and coffee machine and it looks great.

If ours broke tomorrow we would replace it.

UniBallEye · 29/11/2021 10:24

We don't have a microwave and have no interest in getting onw, so previously all milk for hot chocolate was heated in a pan on the cooker

Not everyone has a microwave

CloudyStorms · 29/11/2021 19:18

Wow its pricy!

OnTheBoardwalk · 29/11/2021 23:09

I’m not a massive hot chocolate fan but really like the velvetiser.

Easy to use and really easy to clean

Only thing I’m not a fan of is they are just warm and not hot

Bloodypunkrockers · 29/11/2021 23:24

I love mine

I thought the novelty would wear off but it hasn't

And it's easy to clean, looks good on the worktop and makes lovely drinks

baffledcoconut · 29/11/2021 23:40

@LockdownCheeseToastie do you just blitz it? I need a new stick blender as mine died in a dramatic way. Are they worth the cash?

VetOnCall · 30/11/2021 01:44

I was considering buying one of these as a gift but I'm not a hot drinks person so just jumping in to ask if anyone knows if you still get good results if you use plant based/non dairy milks, and if so is there a better/best type to use if the person has no general preference?

ToykotoLosAngeles · 30/11/2021 03:04

Oatly Barista (or similar) is fantastic in it.
